An original entry in the series is coming to Wii this June, and the developers stress that this is not a port of the original game. Overlord: Dark Legend is a prequel to Overlord, and follows a different story, new characters, and uses a control scheme built for Wii.
Overlord: Dark Legend is a prequel to the first Overlord game, seeing the origins of the hatred between Elves and Dwarfs. Much like the first game you control a newly promoted Overlord who is a bit younger, in fact he looks a bit like a student in armor until you upgrade.
It's a good change for the system. This type of game looks like it will work really well on the system.
Now let's just see if it sells.
It doesn't look great. By applying the well-worn Wii formatting trick of liberating much of the grandeur and personality from a game series to make way for some arbitrary remote-wiggling interaction, the English developers have apparently designated their target market as the sort of immature sadists who believe pulling wings from insects constitutes a pastime.
PlayDevil has posted a review of Codemasters' Wii game "Overlord: Dark Legend".
Here's snip:
"Understandably the Wii does lack graphical power compared to other next gen consoles and it would be unfair to expect anything on a par graphically with other Overlord games on different platforms.
For the most part graphics are acceptable with the fantasy setting coming across fairly well without being too absorbing. The downside though is that there are quite a few glitches in the overall presentation which does take away a fair bit of the enjoyment although does not spoil the game too much."
The game looks impressive graphically. Similar to an original Xbox 360 release.
Good to see more support for the Wii. Although I'm not quite sure if I'll buy it or not, it's definitely great to see developers put effort into a game.
The graphics are amazing!
