A great game usually comes out of nowhere.

IP's like Mario, Halo, or God of War are different. They all have great track record's. But at one point, even these games came out of nowhere. Killzone 1 didn't do that great. Most developers who make a sh*tty game usually don't make a fantastic sequel. Killzone 2 broke this rule. You should be excited, but more than anything, grateful.

You all want a Halo-Killer deep-down? A war-game won't cut it. You need a whole new universe. Halo has its own universe. Mario has its own universe. God of War has its own universe. Until the PS3 gets a shooter that defines a generation, it will not overthrow Halo. Halo is a legend, a story unlike your own here in life.

Just be grateful for what you got, and look forward to the future with the hope that Sony will announce a new IP - FPS set in a fictional environment.

It seems the media are making a bigger deal than the "fanboys" did. As a future KZ2 owner, I couldn't care less what review scores this game is getting. I have played the demo and have found enough reason to pre-order.

Game critics who write these articles are completely missing the point: it isn't the SCORE that people are primarily complaining about. It's the INCONSISTENCY.

The inconsistency isn't with the high scores. The inconsistency is WITHIN each reviewing site. In other words, some of the sites give out the score (whatever it may be) but their criteria for grading it is inconsistent with all of their other reviews. For instance, most of the reviews mention the average storyline, a (supposed) lack of innovation, the lack of co-op, and the mediocre voice acting as "negative" aspects of the game. However, in other game reviews many of these issues were brushed over (like Gears 2's storyline) or even ignored (the lack of content and storyline in Left 4 Dead), or other more important problems (like lots of glitches in Fable II) were ignored altogether.

Yet, somehow these issues are important when it comes to Killzone. THAT is the inconsistency that people are talking about.

What inconsistency? The game has got mostly 9's and you call one 8 inconsistent? Some people are just harsher reviewers and judge parts differently. This guy clearly had a problem with it not being genre defining (which is pretty harsh) but some of the reviews say that, although it's really good, it's not that innovative so he may have a point. So giving the occasional 8 isn't really that surprising. People don't have to love the game just because of the graphics

If GOW 1 and GOW 2 are any indicator of what GOW 3 will be...I doubt the same thing that happen to KZ 2 will happen to it. I can only thing of two complaints that reviewers would try to push: repetitive and camera...but they should be fine. I would be surprised if GOW 3 fell victim.

Get over it. The game is great, beautiful but it is not fantastic game. I think it's a solid 9.25 based on what I have seen. My knock on it is the fact the AI is on pre'set routines....Ie....They won't do anything different than what they are programmed to do. So if there is a ledge that they are supposed to walk to before shooting at you, you can shoot them 800 time and they won't shoot back until the get to that ledge. That ruins the immersion... but its a DAY 1 buy for me.

We are at the point where we are actually analyzing what you write in your reviews "journalists." More and more people are not just looking at the # you throw at the game, but what you had to say about it in detail.

If what you say about a game is of high praise, but your score is contrary to what you stated, then something got lost in translation. You need to think of expalining in high detail why it gets that 8. Explain to the people reading what you felt was worth docking 2 points. Be as detailed as possible in this part, because the flaws are the things that are going to be re-read the most.

I understand the 8/10 score IF you have valid points and you can see why someone buying this game would feel the same. Just it seems hard to do the 8/10, without downplaying the overall greatness of the other departments of the game.

At this point though, the sites that need real bashing are EDGE. 7/10? 8/10 for Fear 2? MGS4 and Resistance 2 also terrible marks on EDGE? However, a broken game like Gears 2 was a 9/10 there. The game is STILL broken...

I think Gears 2 should be the main argument used against sites who give Killzone 2 a bad mark. You gave Gears 2 a 9/10 when it's broken, yet you give an extremely well polished game a lesser score? Explain yourself THOROUGHLY how you will ever find Gears 2's multiplayer funner than Killzone 2's. I really want to hear that.

Edge gave Let's Tap on the Wii a higher score than Killzone 2. If you had in your hand a copy of Let's Tap and in the other Killzone 2...Edge says, based on their review scores, you should pick Let's Tap. And Sony fans have been demonized for questioning this?

You may not beleive this but gears 2 is a good game. I would rate it as a 9.0 The Horde mode is possible one of the best inclusion to multiple, i have played in a long time as it's a real challenge.

This is how I see it:
Site/Magazine makes a review (here about Killzone 2)----> and Killzone 2 fans(boys) not happy.
Fans expressing their anger/disgust/discontent/... but most of all their OPINION towards the review of said site/Magazine.
Site/Magazine is saying those fans are just stupid because they cannot accept an opinion, stating that a review is basically an opinion of a person towards a game.

So to summarize the site/magazine is saying you should just accept the reviews because they are an opinion based writing, but they (the site) don't have to take into account your opinions. Those are not relevant, just stupid and fanboyish.

If you express your opinion via a review, don't go whining afterwards, because some 'vocal' people are not digging it and express in turn their opinion. How is ones opinion more relevant/correct/just/better than another.

I think it's about time to stop crying, starting not to give a f*ck about unfair reviews and play the sh*t out of this game. Maybe I'm weird but honestly I don't care about weak reviews. My favourite games don't have to be 10/10 or 9/10. First Killzone had like 70/100 meta score but I did enjoy it.
People admit that they don't care about review scores, that own opinion is what matter most but still there are people who think that bigger number at the end of a review is everything.
I think some people just don't have enough problems in real life so they look around and find something to b*tch about and care about some lame problems like 7 out of 10 review.

the only whinning I have seen over killzone was about the Edge review, even the 8.5 and up grades have been well received by PS3 fanboys. There was more whinning over the MGS several 8's and 9.5 under scores. I consider a fair review for killzone anything around 9.

After finally playing the Killzone 2 demo, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I was going to 'try' and buy a PS3 with Killzone, but for some reason it just didn't do it for me? Maybe it was the over the top expectations I had going in (which is my fault) or the disconnect I had with the controller (I don't feel comfortable playing FPS's with the dualshock), but now I'm undecided...

I played Gears of War 1 for about 7 months straight day in and day out. I was so anticipating Gears 2 from the moment Cliffy announced it on that stage with his giant lancer. When the game came here's how I saw it and feel free to argue your point.

You gave us a decent single player. Equal to Gears 1. My main beef with the story was how Tai died. They managed to break his will in a matter of Marcus going underground, and finding him almost moments later. In no point in the game does it say they are down there for weeks, as the whole game is done in succession and starts early in the morning of one day to the end of it. So you are telling me a guy who is tough as nails broke down within basically hours of torture to blow his own head open? It didn't answer squat for questions from Gears 1 that I had. It seems they just tacked on Gears 2 to show Dom finding his wife...bout it.

Horde mode. Great idea. However, for me, I found it dull after doing 50 waves on different difficulties 3 times. It's not that indluging or satisfying, more like a chore for some reason. It doesn't spice itself up enough to have mass replay value.

Multiplayer. The meat of the game. The reason most of us shell out 60 dollars on a shooter, so that we get our moneys worth with our friends for months to come. Glitches from Gears 1 are there day 1. New glitches that make Gears 1 glitches look amateur. No fix to host issues. The only thing Gears 2 fixed was active down sniping. So many features of the game's actual experience are flawed. Smoke grenades, unstoppable chainsaws, and that's all waiting for you if you get into a game that is 5 on 5.

There is no need to defend any aspect of Gears 2, because I loved #1. In the time I played Gears 2 for about a month and a half I was 500 in the world in 3 different game types. However, I was NOT having fun. Everygame was just me being frustrated over and over. You can't called it a videoGAME if the game isn't fun.

The game at most now even with a patch deserves a 7.5/10. Before that a 7/10. A .5 increase in enjoyment fixing some bugs.

I also find it telling that Edge gave the 360 exclusive Ridge Racer 6 an 8 out of 10, and shortly thereafter, when the PS3 exclusive sequel (Ridge Racer 7, naturally) came out, was MUCH prettier, ran natively in 1080p, and was just overall an improvement, they gave it a 6 out of 10.

To compare, there is AT MOST an equal amount of improvement between Project Gotham 3 and 4 (both 360 exclusives), and yet they gave BOTH of them 9's. So, the slightly better sequel came out, and they gave it the same high score. But with PS3 exclusive racers that improve upon their predecessors, games like Ridge Racer 7 and Motorstorm Pacific Rift, they give them LOWER scores than their predecessors.

Edge has a history of giving sequels on the Xbox the same or higher marks than their predecessors (Halo 3 got a higher score than Halo 2 despite not innovating anywhere near as much as Halo 2 did in terms of online multiplayer, and Gears of War 2 is another example of being very, very similar to its predecessor yet getting a higher score), while giving PS3 sequels lower scores than their predecessors (like Resistance 2 getting a lower score, despite having a good campaign, great 60-player lag-free multiplayer, and a very deep co-op experience that is similar to Left 4 Dead, but with twice as many players, more enemy varieties, and class-based gameplay promoting teamwork and tactical balancing, instead of everyone having identical abilities.)

Maybe it is time to set some baseline requirements for a review (even an opinion). There should be some type of disclaimer stating the views of said reviewer are that of that person and not of everyone in general.

Basically when they give their opinion and final score they have to say "this score might not be agreeable with people but that is the score I am giving it based on my personal playtime with it. Others will have different views and are certainly allowed to have their own opinion and I welcome civil rebuttals to the review score I have given."

Just like with movies, I dont always agree with Ebert and think some of the movies he has given a thumbs down to are pretty good (IMO). Thing is, if you have a problem with a review score then discuss it in a civil manner rather than jump to the conclusion that x company paid y company or that the person has no right to review anything.

Remember, reviews are nothing more than the opinion of the person who has experienced it before you.

What as this article says, Killzone "fanboys" are compaining mainly about consistency.

People are pulling down scores for KZ2 because it has no Co-Op. COD4 has no Co-Op. GTAIV has no co-op. Both scored 10/10s. Review gives 10/10 for Graphics for Halo 3 and yet gives KZ2 8/10 for graphics.

Prince of PErsia has no Co-Op lets nerf its score!

Also to topple the cake. Games like GTA IV gets free passes despite the in reality is a bad game. They called KZ2 about story but never complain about other games for story like Halo and Gears and even gTA IV and Uncharted (Come on Gears has no Story, Uncharted has a story of a porn movie, GTA has lame story and characters). KZ2 get dissed for having somewhat Low Textures (I didn't see any but meh) when people ignore all the low textures in games like Gears COD Resistance etc.

Reviewers didn't remove score for Gears or Halo for having Zero Innovation. Nothing is inovative in that games even cover system.

I have both an Xbox 360 and a PS3 and they both have good games. I own and have beaten both Halo 3 and Gears 1 & 2 and they are all good games.

I have also played the Killzone 2 beta and the demo and you know what?...Killzone 2 is a an amazing game. For my tastes, the multiplayer surpasses Halo or Gears and the demo gives me the impression that the campaign will be an awesome experience as well.

Couldn't care about review-scores anyway, its all about the arguments for me. That said, i love the Killzone story/mythology with it's huge backstory and real life parallels.

the game didn't offer any "defining genre experience", which is of course automatically applied to any game on PS3, and please don't deny that it isn't. Don't you think its a least bit surprising that good majority of PS3 games don't end up with 9s when they easily deserve them, while 360 games are handed out 9s like cupcakes, and this is no bull either. Journalist are people too and people "can" have biased opinions. Justification is what bad reviews lack, and some of KZ2 reviewers had that, and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out when something sounds absurd such as aforementioned reason "not genre defining"?! Why does a PS3 exclusive "need" to redefine gaming experience? As someone who has moved onto more neutral seat, I can really see why PS3 crowd would feel angry about how they are being treated, not saying they're angels either, but if you take a step back and observe carefully, you'd see the real picture yourself and you would question as to why is this happening. Anyways, I agree with Mr. Sessler, some people do take it new levels of stupidity.

Furthermore, reviews "do" matter to some extent, you can't say they don't. Reviews are what people like me turn to make up our minds. The basic information on back of the cover and gameplay videos on professional sites aren't enough to convince us, at least me, because videos are not telling us how gameplay is handled. I like to do my research when purchasing games, and half of it comes from reviews and other half from demos (not every game gets a demo now does it?). I want to make sure my hard earned $60 are going for a worthwhile game that is solid and enjoyable without being too frustrating.

The other funny thing is it's only natural to like your console of choice and to defend it , to an extent .
Especially when like at any generation , if you console of choice get constantly ganged up upon , for good and bad reasons alike .

Nintendo fans werent less susceptible for ages , when they lagged behind in both sales and popularity contest with the n64 or gamecube and had those "nintendo or XXX consoles will die"

"Fanboys" are easy to spot and use the same modus operandi anyway :

Whatever the console , instead of straighforwardly telling they dislike that XXX exclusive game or can't seems to care about most of a console's line-up or focus , they'll feed you crap about XXX console having no game .

You'll of course mention one of a few existing titles that the fanboy , bullying his way into the arguments , will dismiss the line up and deny it's existence in two non mutually exclusive ways :

- it doesnt matter cause it "didnt sell" , as if it ever was relevant in the conversation
- said game sux / rival console got a far better one , wich is obviously harder to dispute , being a completely subjective argument

Dont believe me ? halo and gears of war suddenly sux for hardcore pro nintendo or sony fans ..
And pro 360 side , stuff like uncharted , jak and dexter , little big planet etc is magically erased from exclusive list and it becomes a tug war between an exclusive ps3 title of their choice , and a supposedly superior title .

Anyway care to remember what is the daily crap a ps3 got to read and listen on again daily basis ? between the false stuff , the rumors , the opinions or true intel ?

Take way of the samurai , a series i'm a bit fond of , the new one went from ps3 exclusives to multiplatform . I doubt anyone , besides fans of the games that bought a 360 , actually care ... it's not even a major or popular serie so far .

Yet the day it was announced , you could mostly see headlines and articles with content such as "OOOOH no yet another ps3 exclusive lost!!" , "360 get yet another ps3 exclusives" . Suddenly people cared about way of the samurai (btw where were you when the game struggled enough for publishers to not consider translating some of them ?) and it was a big deal .

Meanwhile not too long ago , a major capcom sequel , Dead rising 2 , once a 360 exclusive becomes multi platform and all you see are normal and sober "Dead rising 2 on ps3/360" " Dead rising 2 multiplatform" headlines and articles . Wich is good , but why isnt it usually like all the time and a standard ?

Of course it gets people paranoid to see specialized press make a big deal of "no name" ps3 games getting multi , while major announcement about former 360 games are pretty much normal .

I've been playing on consoles for longer than I care to admit. Started with a home version of PONG, then worked my way through the Atari VCS, SNES, Mega Drive, Playstation, Saturn, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, PS2 and XBOX. I even had a Mega CD (remember NIGHT TRAP??) and must confess to owning an Atari Jaguar and Phillips CD-i.

And you know what? I've experienced "fanboy-ism" from owners of just about all them (except those last three of course!). From Mega Drive owners insisting STARFOX was 'crap' just because it wasn't on their system to N64 gamers childishly waving GOLDENEYE in the faces of 'rival' owners and going "NYAH!", nobody is immune, nobody has the moral highground and NOBODY sure as hell has the right to point fingers at an 'opposing' set of fans and brand them with blanket names like "fanboys" while pretending that their own little clique is above such things.

There isnt anything new to talk about with this whole Killzone 2 stuff. At this point, I will leave it up to the actual game release to see how much people enjoy it.

Thats why sales numbers in a way, are all you can really go by after all is said and done. Sales numbers are not necessarily an accurate barometer of how good something is, but with games its more applicable than movies or muisc, since you have to invest effort into it, rather than passive enjoyment.

Obviously, COD, Gears, Halo, L4D, Bioshock...all the top-shelf shooters sell extremely well. Lets just wait and see how K2 stacks up next to those. Will it do those blockbuster type numbers? R2 numbers? Bioshock numbers? COD numbers? Lets just wait and see...

Lord of the rings( well all of them)
Night at the museum (pure entertainment)
Where eagles dare (Got to love the actors in this film)

Every one of these films has to get a poor review somewhere.

Killzone2 to me is a decent shooter with sumptuous graphics.It isn't as knock you out dead as the first E3 trailer though it's certainly not a cr!p game by the looks of it.An opinion that would likely fire up folk were it put forward as part of a review no doubt.Truth is i would have bought a PS3 had my jaw dropped upon seeing the in games stuff - the original trailer did just that

I certainly understand lesser scores for this game as i have a couple of quibbles that put me off too, but even the positive reviews are attacked in absurd vile ways
