Rumor: Quantum Theory Being Co-Published By Sony?

v4vg.com-"Now there can be either two possibilities that can be inferred from this excerpt, either Sony has offered to back Tecmo for the game just like Microsoft offered publishing assistance for the bloodfest Ninja Gaiden II. "

LarVanian5578d ago

Quantum Theory really does seem like a game that would be multi-platform, so I wouldn't be that surprised if Sony was indeed helping out with the publishing.

Pixel_Addict5578d ago (Edited 5578d ago )

If Quantum Theory, as you put it, looks like a multi-platform game; then why would Sony be publishing it? If Sony does co-publish the game WILL undoubtedly be exclusive to the PS3. What is the point of this argument anyway? It's already been official announced as an exclusive, NOT a timed exclusive, NOT exclusive content.... just plain ol EXCLUSIVE. Quantum Theory is almost certainly going to be an exclusive to the PS3, for good or bad. I think Sony wants its own Gears of War like game on their platform, also the anime look will defiantly click with the Japanese market. I think that is why Sony swooped on this new IP.

LarVanian5578d ago (Edited 5578d ago )

Ok man just relax, take a chill pill and lie down, everything is going to be ok.

On topic: Quantum Theory feels similar to lots of other multi-platform games such as Dark Sector and Army of Two.
It honestly does not look unique or special compared to most PS3 exclusives.
I find the art direction to be very generic and bland (So far).
The lead character looks like a typical jacked up, unstoppable action hero that we see in multi-plat games and 360 exclusives.
That is why I said it feels like a multi-plat game.

EDIT- @ maruchan27six
Yep that is what I meant.

maruchan27six5578d ago

I think he meant that if Sony isn't involved with the publishing, the game would have been announced/made as a multi-platform.Whatever happened pre-devolepment of the game, the final result came out as an exclusive to PS3.Chances that Sony is really involved, who knows.

callahan095578d ago

I think what Lar was trying to say is that everything about the game screams "Multiplatform" and the only reason it isn't being developed as a multiplatform is because Sony secured exclusivity by helping with the publishing.

uie4rhig5578d ago

and his point is that Sony co-publishes the game to make sure that it will stay PS3 exclusive...

gaffyh5578d ago

Well either way it's a good idea from Sony to get a TPS like GeOW (even though it might not be as good) on the PS3. Hopefully it is a good game, but I'll reserve judgement for now.

While I have no doubt if Sony publishes it, it will be exclusive but for arguments sake let's say Sony publish it and it is a multi-plat.

If this is the case then wouldn't Sony pocket money for EVERY PS3 and 360 version sold? Thus probably increasing profits around 150%

Sony spoke about this before, that rather than pay developers for exclusives, they were going to take the approach of publishing games to ensure exclusivity and help remove that costs from the developer.

Karum5578d ago

Yeah, the idea that sony are to help with publishing for this game makes more sense to me and hopefully it's true. As long as it's a good game that is.

My only real fear for this game is that people will simply compare it to Gears instead of judging it on it's own merit.

jkhan5578d ago (Edited 5578d ago )

Interesting approach. Its good they are supporting 3rd party in some ways. All they need to do now is put some of there own experts to help the team making Quantum Theory and if it turns out well and it sells well then most probably more developers will be willing to bring exclusives to PS3.
@2.1
Yeah I know what you mean, unfortunately this game will be judged that way. You can bet on it, every preview we are going to see in the future for this game will start with the comparison to Gears of War. Unfortunately there is nothing anyone can do about it, unless the devs pulls out a real ACE out of this game.

Sarcasm5578d ago

that's great and all for Sony, but here's hoping the game is any good.

ultimolu5578d ago

That does sound like a good idea, and if that works out...it could ensure more 3rd party support.

callahan095578d ago

Exactly. Like they've done with Insomniac all this time. Everybody calls them a second-party, but when it really comes down to it, they're a third-party, they are an independent company and they can develop for whoever they want. It just so happens that Sony owns the intellectual property rights to the projects they work on, and Sony publishes their games (and I believe helps with production financing as well). But in reality, they're an independent company that Sony supports as a publisher. Other independent developers that Sony has been helping out as a publisher are Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet), Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword), and Quantic Dream (Heavy Rain).

Sevir045578d ago

Sony was the one who approached quantic dreams, and in that process they offered to fund development of both Heavy rain and quantic's other title which quantic dreams other Ceo is working on. as a matter of fact. Quantic dream said that as a third party independent studio, thats a dream and perfect position to be working directly with 1 platform holder as your publisher because they support yuo with everything and they dont put time frames or rush you to get a product out.

I'm certain that Sony's involved with publishing this game. Team Tachyon and Tecmo have had good relationship with Sony as they published games for Sony on Ps2, with fatal frame and tenhu games. it isn't a surprise that this game is exclusive. Techmo said they have plan on supporting Sony and the PS3 so This game will be exclusive.

also FromSoftware's RPG kingsfield and it's successor Demon's Soul is also a product of Sony approaching and supporting the title by Co-publishing and developing it. and that Game hit's japan Feb 5th 2009.

sinncross5578d ago

Ah yes I remember that. It was a way to cut the middleman (publisher) and work directly with developers.

In any case I do hope this game turns out well. Gives Sony a Gears esque title. But I wonder if the sort of anime look mite be a hindrance to its sales. Hopefully not.

Nathan Drake5577d ago

KillZone 2 has the high quality gameplay and production values Gears of War 1 had,so if Sony want to have a Gears-esque game, they need to promote the living crap out of KillZone 2.

That's about it really,Heavy Rain might be a AAA game but it doesn't have the mass market appeal a shooter has.So for 2009,Sony must ensure KillZone 2 is the game they spend their marketing dollars on.

pixelsword5578d ago

...and leave the pop 'n' shoot to Kill.Switch

OSIRUSSS5578d ago

Tecmo Bowl!!!!! HAHA!!! I love the nes version, too bad Bo Jackson was unstoppable though :<

Bathyj5578d ago

What I would have loved to have seen is Sony having one of their teams working on a TPS using the Killzone engine. And I would have liked them to have started it 2 years ago.

We all think the engine will be used again in Sony games, but theres no reason Killzone has to be out before they get started on it. I wouldn't be surprized if they already have a game in development using the engine.

Or maybe thats why 8 days was postponed to finish the engine and then resume it.

Nah most of the Soulslike games turned out pretty good. Probably the only one I didn't much like was Immortal Unchained.

I don't care what this guy think after he called Way of The Samurai 3 an awful game.

Bigpappy3828d ago

with Quantum Theory, I played the demo and was not impressed. I felt like they were trying to mix Gear of War with Lost Planet, and didn't do either very well. May be someone who never played either would have a blast with it though.

fOrlOnhOpe573828d ago

Yeah, I played the demo too but couldn't finish it....the thought of therapy was too much lol

SyphonELITE3828d ago

damn, i never even heard of this game til now

Yui_Suzumiya3828d ago

I followed this game forever until I finally came out. I got it and loved every bit of it. Originally supposed to be a PS3 exclusive. It got horrible reviews and I didn't understand any of them. They must've been playing a different game then me!

Spore_7773827d ago

Never played it, never will -_-
