Sony: PS3 'still in early adopter phase

The PlayStation 3 is "still in its early adopter phase", Sony has claimed, despite the console being out for over two years.

Speaking in an interview with Gamasutra, John Koller, director of hardware marketing at SCEA, said that the kind of person who was interested in the PS3 was "tech-oriented" and that for them, the console's main appeal was its "multi-functionality".

Make it the same price as the Xbox360 Arcade i'll buy a ps3 until then its not worth the price.

POGfinder5604d ago

except some old xbox owners

no one in the right mind can purchase an x360 since ps3 has all the best games and a Blu ray player too

It is much better value for money

x360 is 200$ cuz it is infact a cheap console with lame hardware and defective crap

n4gzz5604d ago

I hope, you never get to buy ps3. You surely don't deserve to play on PS3 period.

"no one will buy x360 even if it costs 1$"

yet it's $199(arcade),299(pro),350(elit e). and guess what. they are still outselling the ps3.
1) your biggest titles got out sold. gears caught up to MGS4 sells in one month what MGS4 did since the beginning of the summer,

2)LBP had to be bundled just to sell as does all sony exclusive games,

3)the 360 caught up and pass the ps3 sales in one month what the ps3 has been doing since the beginning of the year,

4)360 is making a profit on their systems that even if sony drops the price MS can follow and drop theirs without hurting their profits. where as sony couldn't do it.

oh if you what to go with "oh MS is desperate cause they have to drop the price to sell their system" just remember sony did it with the ps3 within it's first 6 months of release.(which is unheard of) no systen i remember ever did that and i have been gaming since intelevision and atari 2600 came out.

The PS3 has not even been out 2 years in Europe so I think it is safe to say that it is still very much in the early adopter phase of its life cycle.

POGfinder5604d ago (Edited 5604d ago )

and also considering the fact that it costs 2x as much as competiting consoles with a 400$/500$ price tag

22m ps3s by december 2008 is a fanstastic achievement .

PS3 will do as good as ps2. just wait for the price to go down a little. also ps3 has a stellar lineup for 2009

@Lightning from Neogaf forums

GTFO u stupid Troll.

PS3 is at 22m by december 2008

where was the x360 last year???

It was 16.7m according so PS3 is ahead by atleast 5m at the same time frame

stupid BOT surrender????

where in the world is x360 sellling except USA?

STUPID BOT

where will you be when PS3 drops to 300$ and murder your defective crap consoles

All you're doing is spectating from the other side in a fanboyish perspective.

Out of all the people I know that have a Ps3, I've never heard them complaining about the built in blu ray player.

Just face it, blu ray is succeeding & isn't going away, unlike that other HD format that was out & failed...what was it called again? Nevermind, I forget.

Lifendz5604d ago

and already Sony has delivered Uncharted, MGS4, KZ2 (in a mere matter of days), and many others? Wow. Kudos to Sony. Early adopter phase and already reaping major companies big profits? I can't wait till the PS3 is in the mainstream phase and certain IPs that I once loved become exclusive again and actually take advantage of the system to its full potential.

IdleLeeSiuLung5604d ago

I hate to piss on your parade or even start anything here, but two years is not early adopter phase when the average prime of a console life is the first 5 years for early adopters (in Europe it is 2-3 months shy of being out for 2 years now).

This cycle might be longer, but still with the branding Sony had for 2 console generations and with the expanded market they should have done better. Although, I am impressed that they did as well as they did with the high price tag primarily thanks to Europe and Japan. PS3 no doubt has a good game lineup for 2009 (if they all come out considering Sony's history), but unless they drop that price they are scr*wed!

Personally, I hope PS3 and 360 stay neck in neck this whole generation. That way they can put pressure on each other to outdo each other all the time. This can only be good for consumers. The only one I wish did terrible is Wii, because it is untouchable and really doesn't have any quality games I want to play at all....

Captain Tuttle5604d ago

Replace "still" with "stuck" and the headline would be more accurate imo.

POGfinder5604d ago (Edited 5604d ago )

still is more appropriate because of the price tag

and ps3 has been out in US for 2 years only

so still at a very high price it is in early adopter phase

ps3 will do as good as ps2. just wait for the price to come down
still 222m by december 2008 is a good achievement

@capt chaos
haha aa LIVE

no one cares about lame MII rip off
when we could have a 3D world which is quite fun?

does X360 have BC to PS2 games? no

PS2 owners were ps1 owners . eventually ps2 owners will buy PS3s just like old xbox owners buying x360

anywhere like LIVE???

haha what a joke.

HOME is way better than lame NXE aka mii avatar rip off for kids.

Capt CHAOS5604d ago

Why would PS2 owners automatically move to PS3? They don't even have backwards compatibility. Seems Sony is more keen on Second life type Home betas that actually improving backwards computability and making the in-game live anywhere near as good as the xbox live.

lightningSUKS3605604d ago

we bots are satisfied witn crappy Peer to peer servers and LAme Mii crap

we bots have no shame . this is why we watch SD movies on LIVE.

this is why we praise crappy LIVE

terrandragon5604d ago

He's right, you know. I moved to Xbox 360 because like many people, I don't have that much money to spend on games. And yes, I am a PS2 owner. Just play Gran Turismo games on it, though.

InMyOpinion5604d ago (Edited 5604d ago )

In the same way that Home still is in beta? Sounds like a weak excuse for poor sales.

POGfinder5604d ago (Edited 5604d ago )

with a 400$ price tag.

poor sales? thats more like x360 -- it was 16m by the end of 2007 and perhaps 25-26m by now

ps3 is around 22m by december 2008

HOME is awesome and fun too. Much better than NXE with lame avatar crap

@pirate
the x360 was at 16.7m last year

PS3 is around 22m by now

so ofcourse ps3 is doing better even if you take the 400$ price tag.

@captchaos

Oh HOME isnt better but lame Mii rip off aka NXE is good. Never cease to defend the crap service ..haha typical Xboat

Capt CHAOS5604d ago

You again?

Lol..

"HOME is awesome and fun too."

I suppose atleast ONE person has to think so.

PirateThom5604d ago (Edited 5604d ago )

Well, if the PS3 has poor sales, then surely so does the 360. Their sales numbers really weren't that different last year.
