Screen Rant writes, "Helldivers 2 controversially locks some equipment with real in-game benefits behind a premium currency - but does that make the game pay-to-win?"

A premium currency you earn in game, so like I guess? But spend a little time and you'll unlock it all the same 🤷‍♂️

Bronbron9282d ago

It’s not pay to win, the premium currency is just for cosmetics for armors yes they have different ratings and buffs but that only helps you so much in this game

thornintheside82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

Not sure I agree with you, since 1000 super credits are needed to unlock the premium warbond. Luckily the best weapon(breaker shotgun standard) is in the standard warbond group, but there are still good items in the premium warbond

Bronbron9282d ago

Yeh but you can earn the credits through the game sure it’s a grind but if you don’t want to spend money for them, what exactly are you buying that guarantees success through out the game?

thornintheside81d ago (Edited 81d ago )

I know, but I have a view that a game that allows you to skip the grind, by paying real money, is P2W. Wether the unlocks are good or not, doesn't matter for that view.

Ironmike82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

The amount of suuper credits u find is not great I had upgrade my warbond to get better weapons

EvertonFC82d ago

Or just play the game, I never get this buy cosmetic shit. I couldn't care less about desert strom camouflage or playing as snoop dog etc.

TwoPicklesGood82d ago

The weapons and armor you get from the premium battle pass are a little bit better than the standard versions but not enough to be considered pay to win, at least, not right now. We will have to wait and see what future premium battle passes do because things could change very easily.

Ironmike82d ago

It's the rate of the supercredits mt they don't give u much

Helldivers 2 Community United in Welcoming a Returning Player

Should you return to the game? A returning player united the Helldivers 2 community. AH CEO supports the fans' mission for a better patch.

Magatsuhi1h ago

Saw this coming since the first nerf to the meta. Anyone that had any sense and wasn't a fan boy knew this was gona happen. Knee jerk reaction nerfs to the meta made the game boring.

Helldivers 2 is the fastest-selling Sony first-party title ever

250 hours in and I can't get enough

Gameseeker_Frampt3h ago

It's not a first-party game though. Is it really too much to expect these low-rate websites to have the bare minimum of knowledge about the topic that they write about?

This reminds me of the hoops that some diehard Nintendo fans would go through to claim a game (like Bayonetta 2) is first-party just to say Nintendo is pumping out games.

GamingSinceForever2h ago

Sony owns the IP so maybe that will clear things up for you.

SonyStyled2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

It’s a second party title, like Ratchet and Clank prior to the purchase of Insomniac, or like Sly Cooper before the purchase of Sucker Punch, or like Dead Nation before the purchase of Housemarque, etc.

darthv722h ago

Sony published it, they dont own it... not yet anyway.

Giga_Gaia2h ago

@darthv72 Sony owns the Helldivers IP, but they don't own the developer.

CrashMania1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

@darth. Sony absolutey owns the IP.

Just wondering if you don't consider Pokemon, Smash ultimate or Metroid Dread first party because Nintendo doesn't own the studios that made those games...

Gameseeker_Frampt7m ago(Edited 2m ago)

I don't consider them first-party. Just like Kirby isn't first-party and neither is Luigi's Mansion 3.

Ownership of the IP has nothing to do with whether a game is first-party. First-party games are ones that are made by studios owned by a platform maker. I find fans only will try to claim a game as first-party if the game is good. If it is bad, they quickly rush to point out that their preferred company didn't really make it. Star Fox Zero,Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, and The Order:1886 are good examples of this.

That's insane! Congratulations Arrowhead! Be good if Sony did buy them, they could work closely with Housmareque and they could both help each other with projects, that'd be good to see

badz14955m ago

Between the original Helldivers (Arrow Head) and Alienation (Housemarque), I prefer the later so much more. Would love to see Alienation going through similar transformation as HD2 for its sequel.

lol and everybody complained about multiplayer games as a service. "no thanks! single player story games for me, thanks!".

well... proof is in the pudding. most people love a good proper competition, and if it comes in the form of a great, addicting game then that's even better. this is that game. this is the exact reason publishers are pushing for GaaS. I personally am fine with it. There's space for all types of games, and I love a good multiplayer romp. some of my best gaming memories are from MP, and HDII is no exception.
