Nintendo Switch 2 may sport an 8-inch display

An analyst has suggested that the successor to the Nintendo Switch could feature a screen that's even bigger than that found in the current OLED model.

A slightly bigger screen is fine, but making sure it’s OLED and has VRR are more important tech features to have IMO. 40fps options are becoming more and more common and would be a huge benefit on a handheld offering much smoother performance over 30fps, without being nearly as taxing on the battery as 60fps.

Always remember that nintendo will be nintendo. Doesn't matter what features a lot of people think are no-brainers or standard today, nintendo will be nintendo.

An 8 inch screen is amazing though. The Portal has 8 inches and I really prefer this over my Switch. So that's a win. If they can do 8 inches and keep the price decent I prefer this over a smaller Oled one.

Nintendo only caught lightning a couple of times. The Wii, DS, and now Switch. Given their current pattern, it's unlikely that the Switch 2 will do as well as the Switch. Especially with the rise of the Steam deck. That said, I suspect the Switch 2 to do about as well as the 3ds.

frostypants124d ago

That should be their corporate slogan.

Profchaos124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

@notiriuswiz they caught lightning far more than that.

The NES, SNES, GB(C)/GBA all big sellers or generation topping even if the numbers are not what you'd expect today the pool of gamers was smaller in the 80s and 90s so selling 62 million NES units is huge when the market was still recovering from a crash.

I don't see the steamdeck as a direct competitor to switch 2 as the game LIbrary differs far to much and the steamdeck is still a PC with a lot of the complexity that comes with that remaining.

The switch being a console is going to have a far more streamlined experience no tweaking graphical settings or searching for comparability or driver fixing you put a cart in and play the game that's more valuable to me.

I'm not writing off PC as a platform as I do have a gaming PC but If I'm going on a trip I will take plug and play any day

“A slightly bigger screen is fine, but making sure it’s OLED and has VRR”

Not happening unfortunately. I’m not going back to LCD so I’ll just keep it docked to my OLED TV.

Display shipment data suggest Nintendo would make 10M+ of next-gen console in initial FY. Unlike PS5 and XSX/S that faced chip shortages at launch,

“Nintendo's would be much easier to find at stores. And about OLED version, Omdia says not "for this year."

I get it it's logical that the successor to the switch would opt for a LCD to keep costs down as it's internals will be expensive enough.

But they should honestly take a multi sku approach I'd happily throw a extra 100 in for a OLED option as I really love the switch OLED it would feel like a big step back to return to LCD.

Profchaos125d ago

Is it though it's bigger but lower quality

PRIMORDUS125d ago

Classic Nintendo, LCD now then new Switch 2 OLED in about 2 yrs 🤬

Profchaos125d ago

Switch 2 mini then switch 2 xl than switch 2 classic

gerbintosh124d ago

Then Switch 2, Electric Boogaloo

northpaws125d ago

Performance > all.

Please gives it a decent CPU/GPU.

Even better if it has a "stay at home" edition for people who only play it on their TV. So, no screen, no speaker, no uncomfortable controllers, no battery that take the budget away from performance.

Profchaos125d ago

I think if you can have a portable only SKU and make it as cheap as they made the switch lite yeah why not have a home version for super cheap

Take-Two Is Quietly Killing Private Division

In recent weeks, reports have surfaced that Take-Two is shuttering Kerbal Space Program 2 developer Intercept Games and OlliOlli World developer Roll7. Now, IGN has learned that not only are these closures imminent, but they are a part of a larger move by Take-Two to either sell off or shut down the entirety of its indie label, Private Division.

Inverno12h ago

Jesus. The AAA space is gonna implode on itself. We went from "indie is the future" to shutting down devs who make smaller budget games to make way for games that take 7 years to develop and blow through half a billion bucks with almost nothing to show for it.

badboyz0910h ago

You guys act all upset but don't buy the games. I bet none of you bought RollerDROME!

qalpha7h ago

I bought 'No Rest for the Wicked', which is published by Private Division, so it does concern me about its future.
