Day one, love me some Tomb Raiding.

Babadook7116d ago (Edited 116d ago )

Personally, TR1 may still be favorite gaming experience of all time. Those puzzles and exploration mechanics were a thing of beauty. I do like Uncharted, but the climbing is so dumbed down compared to early TR. On top of that, the feeling of solitude, the music, the connection to the main character were among the best gaming memories I have.

Nacho_Z115d ago

I don't recall the climbing in TR (agreed it's too basic in Uncharted) but I wish the Uncharted games had the pinpoint platforming that Tomb Raider had. Would have elevated the base gameplay for me.

GaboonViper115d ago

Oh yes agree, i remember the first time playing being amazed at the beauty and vastness of the levels waiting to be ransacked, and Lara was kick ass.

And that T-Rex is still one of gamings best jump scares and boss fights.

terstomp116d ago

Looking forward to this on the PS4.

CornholioX116d ago

Aah, love this game back when i was a kid. Definitely day one buy!

robtion116d ago

Such a shame they didn't do a proper remake like with the Spyro trilogy or Shadow of the Colossus. That would have been a day 1 buy. As for this I'll wait and see, it still looks so dated, what was the point? Seems like a lazy cash grab.

tombfan116d ago

*sigh* this remaster is really what fans want, it's the original grid games with improved graphics and some optional game controls.

This translates badly into a remake because of the grid engine, if they do a remake it'd be like a normal game with uncharted controls, instead, they're giving us the classic experience, with all the magic that's in it.

OtterX115d ago

The fact that you can use the original tank controls or improved controls w a switch in the settings is pretty awesome. Also switching graphics to original/remastered, bc that's not really something that you see often in remasters today which I wish more studios did. I like to compare the experience on the fly, so kudos to them for doing this.

Chocoburger116d ago

Just play the Xbox 360 or PC version of Tomb Raider Anniversary, though I'm assuming you already have.

Zenzuu115d ago (Edited 115d ago )

You're obviously missing the point of this remaster release. It's catered for us older fans who loves the original grid system, design and controls with updated visuals and such. It's exactly what every classic Tomb Raider fans want in the first 3 games.

If you want a proper remake, then give Tomb Raider Anniversary a go.

Why is the word lazy always tossed around so .. lazily? Did you actually look at the work they did? Have you read anything?

robtion115d ago

Yes I looked at the work and read the article. Have YOU actually looked at the 'remaster'? The environments are super blocky and low detail, the textures are poor, the detail in the charter models and enemies is low. This looks like it was made in the early 2000's not in 2023/24.

Look at some good (not lazy) remakes, for example the Demon's Souls remake, the Spyro Triolgy remake for comparison. They remain faithful to the original games but do a proper job of updating the graphics to the modern era.

"Look at some good (not lazy) remakes, for example the Demon's Souls remake, the Spyro Triolgy remake for comparison"

Why are you comparing remakes to a remaster?

robtion115d ago

If you look at my original comment it was that it is a shame they are not doing a remake and are only doing a remaster. That is why I am comparing.

ok I was hanging back on this as I was wanting modern controls with the directional camera on the right stick. Thank god they did this.

Tomb Raider I–III Remastered review - Museum Bait | TechStomper

"Tomb Raider I–III Remastered deserves credit for preserving so much of the original titles - but it never fixes control and camera issues that will put off those who weren't there first time around."

One of the most memorable fights I ever played. I almost didn't want to pull the trigger at the end.

Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft Review | Hey Poor Player

Andrew at HPP writes: "Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft takes a franchise that was flawed even in the 90s and does nothing interesting to update it. The new graphics are nice when they aren’t ruining the atmosphere of certain areas, but the modern controls somehow make these games a worse experience."
