Is the PS VR2 the next Vita?

PlayStation has a stellar track record when it comes to home consoles, but its history with peripherals and portables is a little spottier. Part of the problem seems to be that the company is seemingly incapable of learning from its past mistakes, and I’m afraid I’m beginning to see errors made with the Vita being replicated with the PS VR2.

what i just got one lol its good just need a few more games tbh

Babadook7163d ago

It’s amazing imo.

RE4 and Arizona Sunshine 2 next week!

Kurt Russell163d ago

RE4 VR will be the first big title I pick up on it. I must admit, apart from the odd short session, mine has been gathering dust these past few months.

GamingSinceForever163d ago

It’s been out for 9 months. It should have lenty of games.

Babadook7163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

Yup. It’s had plenty already, and even 3 of my favourite games this gen are best on psvr2. Most likely next week there will be another 2 great games added to that list.

DuckOnQuack35163d ago

Babadook what good games have come out for it? I've been having a vr itch lately

Babadook7163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

@DuckOnQuack

My top 10 games.
1 RE8 Village.
2 Red Matter 2
3 Gran Turismo 7
4 Walk About Golf
5 Propagation Paradise Hotel
6 Red Matter 1
7 Kayak VR
8 Moss Book 1 (haven’t tried 2 yet)
9 Budget Cuts
10 Horizon Call of the Mountain.

Others I haven’t played enough yet; Vampire the masquerade justice, Tales from the galaxies Edge, Fishermans Tale, Synapse, Song in the Smoke.

MrNinosan162d ago

@Babadook7
How can you not have No Man Sky on the list.
On top of the games you mention, I'd add:
Synth Riders, After the Fall, Beat Saber, Demeo, Drum Rocks, Job Simulator, LesMills Body Combat, Zenith,
Walking Dead S&S 1+2, Townsmen VR, Tetris Effect and probably a few more.

I actually liked Switchback a lot aswell.

Favourites however is:
GT7, No Man Sky, Red Matter 2 and Zenith

Babadook7161d ago

I respect No Mans Sky and have played it. I know it's high on many lists and if I had gotten used to the controls and steep learning curve to surviving I would probably put it somewhere in my top 10. Beat Saber is great but I don't like most of the music. There really is a lot of contenders and that is part of why I said it has plenty of games already. I wish there was a Townsman Demo too,

This is exactly the same comment I read about the vita many times.

DuckOnQuack35163d ago

Yea I've been waiting for something good to come out since I bought it on release. Luckily Arizona Sunshine is coming and re4

The difference is that PSVR is an add on for a system that's already supported, VR is something publishers hafto support more of in general. The VITA was it's own independent thing which was left to die cause they released the PS4 a year after and was more important to them.

Stanjara163d ago

You bought Vita, you were gaming.
You buy VR2, you need PS5.

Both need separate development devision.

I guess PS5 is again more inportant.

Extermin8or3_163d ago

Actually hybrid gsmes that can work both in vr and out of VR are the best bet alongside bespoke VR games Sony have published quite a few VR games this year and have gathered a decent amount if support.

Jingsing163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

I think this claim of Sony not supporting the Vita has been a repeated lie in the mainstream gaming press for too long and people accept it as the truth. The reality is market conditions and interest failed it. The PSP had the advantage of people being interested in Sony's first handheld were as the Vita felt more like a financial double dip.

Does this list look like they didn't support it? That is just some of the exclusive content.

Thank you. As someone who religiously followed the Vita from the announcement as NGP to the slow death I hear so many misconceptions about why it failed.
The launch lineup was probably one of the strongest in history.

Another common thing i hear is the price of the memory cards which yes was annoying and too expensive back then, but wasn’t as much of a dealbreaker most people are claiming it to be.
This was before most games were sold digitally and most vita games still had a physical release. Only later on when most games coming out for Vita were digital the memory cards became such a nuisance for the community. If you look at reviews back when the Vita launched they were overwhelmingly positive about the device, despite the memory cards.

Espangerish163d ago

That is a lot of games yes but the vast majority aren’t going have any mass market appeal whatsoever.

I was a massive Vita fan and play mine to this day. Even so it’s clear that the supply of high profile games after the initial launch period very quicky shrank to a trickle then dried up completely. The Sony marketing started pushing indies indies indies and it was flooded with them. It limped along like this for years with only the die hards caring. Real shame.

Extermin8or3_163d ago

Yeah Sony supported it, people didn't buy it so they tapered off support but they were supporting it immediately after launch.

purple101163d ago

list isn't long enough ;)

MrNinosan162d ago

What killed the Vita wasn't the lack of games.
It was the charger and memory cards.
Impossible to buy, and dead ass expensive.

gigoran8163d ago

the VITA was and still is an awesome machine. So you are saying the PSVR2 is awesome? Nice!

Amplitude162d ago (Edited 162d ago )

Both the Vita and the PSVR2 are absolutely top of the line in their fields but absolutely failed to gain a mass market. I love both my Vita and PSTV as well as the PSVR2 but come on now you can't argue the software lineup on the VR2 isn't reminiscent of the Vita. I use my Quest WAY more unfortunately. There's just more to do on it and Steam is WAY cheaper for games

Waits for RE4 Remake VR mode to be revealed to be coming to PSVR2 exclusively in 8 days (1 days after Arizona Sunshine 2 and a couple days before Vertigo 2) before writing this article.

purple101163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

you sold me on vertigo 2, that + Arizona sunshine and gT7, just need a price drop, still full price in the uk so far, had a couple £20 off sales but that's not enough for me to jump- will get that creed boxing game too, reminds me of 'ready to rumble' on dreamcast,.

Have tried psvr1, on a couple games on a friends, was impressed.

also had the move controllers on ps3, with house of the dead, time crisis, could do with a new one of those too...

RupeeHoarder163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

I mean….i feel like these articles are trendy. VR games simply don’t get the press that flat games do because most people can’t experience them. Ownership is much lower.

First year of PSVR2…..

1) Horizon: Call of the Mountain
2) Gran Turismo 7
3) Resident Evil Village
4) No Man’s Sky
5) Red Matter 2
6) Humanity
7) Tentacular
8) Switchback
9) Pavlov
10) Synapse
11) The 7th Guest
12) Arizona Sunshine 2
13) Resident Evil 4

Its had a much better launch year than the original with a ton of genres covered.

Babadook7163d ago

Honestly I think it’s a better lunch than any previous Sony console. Admittedly there are some games I could have played sooner on Quest but as someone reluctant to buy into Zuckerbergs platform I’m pretty satisfied right now with VR2

Jingsing163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

I'll take the PSVR1 launch line up to be honest. It had a much more interesting spread of varied content than PSVR2 launch line up.

100ft Robot Golf
Ace Banana
Batman Arkham VR
Battlezone
DRIVECLUB VR
EVE: Gunjack
EVE: Valkyrie
Fated: The Silent Oath
Harmonix Music VR
Hatsune Miku VR: Future Live
Headmaster
Here They Lie
Job Simulator
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
Kismet
Loading Human: Chapter 1
Mortal Blitz VR
Moto Racer 4
PlayStation VR Worlds
Psychonauts: In The Rhombus Of Ruin
Rez Infinite
RIGS: Mechanized Combat League
Rise Of The Tomb Raider: Blood Ties
Space Slam
SportsBar VR
Summer Lesson
SUPERHYPERCUBE
Tethered
The Brookhaven Experiment
The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Viewing Revolution
The PlayRoom VR
Thumper
Tumble VR
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
War Thunder
Wayward Sky
Windlands
World War Toons
Attractio
Bound
Catlateral Damage
Futuridium EP Deluxe VR
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X
Hustle Kings VR
Hyper Void
Nebulous
Super Stardust Ultra VR
VEV: Viva Ex Vivo
Volume: Coda

KeeseToast163d ago

This is pretty poor compared to VR1 especially the output from Sony themselves. Only two games are VR exclusives from SIE

poppatron163d ago

It’s only been out 8 months, psvr has been out for the better half of 8 years

RupeeHoarder162d ago

There’s nothing poor about it how many launch psvr1 games were simply tech demos, shallow and sold as full blown games? PSVR2 has legit full fledged console games
