IGN: World War One: La Grand Guerre Review

The Great War is sadly neglected by strategy game developers. Though it lacks the dynamic military movements of certain other settings, it's rich in the other means of warfare -- diplomacy, economic pressure, technology, etc. World War One manages to include those elements, and all the military action besides, but whatever joys might be found in the setting or the game design are still obscured by incomplete documentation, a clumsy interface and a number of bugs. It's true that things have improved since the game was released late last year, but it's still a far ways from where it needs to be to justify your purchase.

GamersInfo Review – World War One: la Grande Guerre 1914-1918

GamersInfo writes: "I wasn't sure how World War One: la Grande Guerre 1914–1918 is going to turn out. I've played some mediocre games: some bad, some good. But this game has me more confused and annoyed than any in a long time. I've tried to understand the rule set and can only shake my head at the confusion.

As a video board game, the graphics are quite adequate but nothing outstanding. The playing pieces are typical representations of period soldiers. The information screens overlay the game board when displayed. Sounds pretty typical of most war games, but reality sets in when World War One tries to cover countries on a massive scale."

Diehard GameFAN: World War I Review

If you're not a fan of AGEOD's other games or a hardcore war gamer well versed in the tradition of these old style of games from the golden days of the 1980s, then Diehard GameFAN can't really recommend this title to you as it's not very friendly to beginners.

If you are familiar with this developer's other works then World War I- La Grande Guerre 1914-1918 is shaped in a similar mold and you should easily transfer your skillsets to this title. For the rest, they will just have to wait until someone releases something simpler and prettier like World War One: Total War or something.
