Spider-Man and Super Mario win in October as console sales fall | UK Monthly Charts

1.6 million digital games were sold in the UK during October (GSD data), a drop of 24% over the year before. Meanwhile, GfK data shows that physical game sales are up slightly (+8%) to 1.08 million games sold.

The best-selling new game of the month was Spider-Man 2 from Sony.

Compared with last year's big PlayStation game, God of War Ragnarok, the first two weeks of sales are 2% higher for Spider-Man 2. Note: God of War Ragnarok was available on PS4 and PS5, whereas Spider-Man 2 is purely a PS5 game.

Second article from this site trying to infer that consoles sales dipped. Reality is consoles sales dipped for only one and thats XBOX. Playstation has increased year on year.

Nintendo has dipped some as well but that should be expected most likely being in its last year after they sold a ton of units..

Xbox is in its third year and it’s been dropping all year.

PS is doing well Nintendo is doing well Xbox is losing console customers every generation.

Spiderman is the best selling game of the month? Outsold Super Mario wonder? Possibly. Nintendo doesn’t report online sales, but it was still outsold physically by Spiderman and they had the same release date. What an IP to have in the hands of the right people. Selling titles like hotcakes is a part of why Microsoft was able to get away with buying their way into the conversation.

FWIW the Circana guy was asked on Twitter if digital sales would have any chance of putting Mario above Spiderman and he flat out said no.

Especially when you consider Playstation Digital sales are more than Xbox and Nintendo combined. Since Xbox Digital sales beat Nintendo that also means that Nintendo doesn't even come close to half of Playstations digital sales

The community on N4G is... perplexing. In one article they sh*t on Sony and blame PS success for its 'arrogance' and hope for competition. In another they praise its continuous success, and claim it's the best or its competitor should just quit. Like make your mind up goddammit.

Wishing for a competition doesn't automatically means you want Sony to fail. I am one of the bigeest PS fans out here and I still hope for some healthy conpetition from MS to keep Sony honest.

And yet, they decided to play "let's buy the biggest 3rd parties out there" kinda dirty game, doesn't sit well with me. All the money, all the IPs...what a shame!
