Players are Upset With Hogwarts Legacy Switch Version

Despite initial speculations that any shortcomings would be addressed before the official launch, the Hogwarts Legacy Switch version, which went live on November 14, fell short of public expectations.

Be thankful the game is available on the switch what did they expect with that kind of hardware/spec? nintendo should release something as strong as steam deck or a ps4 pro or better.

jaykakade191d ago

Kind of true, but still gamers always expect more.

_SilverHawk_190d ago

Lol. Anything having to do with current generation games on a switch should give anyone a pause. Why would anyone want to buy any game this generation or last generation on a switch when it's available on way better hardware with better performance? Unless it's a Nintendo game I wouldn't recommend buying anything for the switch

Michiel1989190d ago

@silver because when I was 13 or something, I didn't have the income to buy all the consoles and had to do with what my parents bought me. It's not that hard to think of. Get it on another platform if you have the means to, but that doesn't mean that switch players should end up with a bad (running game), it's up to the publisher and the devs to make the game run well on the platform they decide to release it on or not release it on that platform at all. Just like with cyberpunk, this is on the devs/publisher.

Sephiroushin190d ago (Edited 190d ago )

@Michiel1989
articles says it run smooth, it look like crap, oh well who do not expect to look like crap running on a toaster, look at MK1 and any 3rd party game, the dev cant do much with how damn weak the switch is!

Snookies12191d ago (Edited 191d ago )

Exactly, it's quite frankly a miracle it runs at all on the Switch. If people are so unhappy with it, how about they pick up a Steam Deck? Or a Rog Ally? It's not like the Switch is the ONLY way to play it on the go.

GamingSinceForever191d ago

Don’t sound so dense. They released the game and they charged $60. With that being said the game should work perfectly especially with the extra year of development. If they wanted an excuse to release an inferior version the price should have reflected it.

shinoff2183190d ago (Edited 190d ago )

What were you guys on the switch expecting. The switch is inferior every way power wise. We're you expecting 4k 60fps? Sounds like it runs fairly good aside from some downgrades. Imo that's to be expected even with the extra year. Be mad all you want but direct that energy to Nintendo.

Even with the downgrades and 60 dollar tag your still getting your money's worth if your buying on the switch

Profchaos190d ago

It does work perfectly the article states it runs smooth. The issue is the downgrade when comparing a switch to a ps5 so the idea that an extra year of dev work could somehow make the game look like a ps5 version on switch is illogical and unrealistic. The team managed to make smart concessions where required and got the open world running on switch which doesn't have a ton of games with the same open world design

GamingSinceForever190d ago

@shinoff2183….I’m not a Switch guy so please don’t place me in any category. As I’ve stated the price of this game is up there and it doesn’t appear to match the quality.

All I am saying is the blame should fall on the publisher not the gamers. Don’t act as of we haven’t seen developer magic pulled off before.

Neonridr190d ago

except the game does apparently work quite well. Visually it just doesn't compare to the others.

I just bought it for steam deck as it is verified. To begin with it didn't run well but I assume it has been improved.

TheEnigma313191d ago

Why buy any 3rd party games on switch? Stick to the exclusives.

blackblades191d ago

Thats what I'm saying, I dont understand why people buy them on switch. Its such a down grade and I mean big one at that. Look at mk1.

Profchaos190d ago

I know plenty of families who only own a switch as their console not everyone's got multiple systems

Charlieboy333190d ago

@ Prof There's nothing wrong with that, but then those people should also not expect the same experience on the Switch as a system more than 10 times the power.

jznrpg191d ago

That’s what I do. I guess if you are a Swirch only person is why you would buy 3rd party games but they need to realize the hardware was dated when it released and years later it’s even more so.

Profchaos190d ago

Portability fans and households with only one system are more likely to play this than run out and buy a ps5 to play it.

For people like us it's obvious but realistically the switch ports are rarely for hardcore gamers

cammers1995190d ago

That kind of moronic mindset is why the wiiU failed.

Yui_Suzumiya190d ago

When I did own a Switch OLED, I never once bought a Nintendo game. It's primarily made for anything anime related such as visual novels, JRPG'S, adventure / mystery titles and so forth. It's also an FPS machine as well. Those are the primary reasons for it.

Unknown_Gamer5794190d ago

I actually don’t mind simpler, largely indie titles on the platform that can run just fine on the Switch due to them not being very hardware-intensive, and some retro compilations are pretty great on Switch too. Anything where concessions have to be made, or I can expect the visuals or frame rate to take a hit though, and I’m out, since I have other systems that can run those games better.

CrashMania191d ago

I get the whole portability appeal, but there's only so much you can do with that dates hardware, especially in 2023.

babadivad191d ago

The Switch had ancient hardware by it's day when it launched.

Unknown_Gamer5794190d ago (Edited 190d ago )

Hot take, but I don’t even think it’s that great as a portable system, by virtue of even the smaller Lite being too big and bulky to fit in a pocket. The Switch is about versatility, not portability, but in being a jack of all trades, it’s a master of only one: tabletop mode, which is admittedly pretty neat. However, that advantage is only useful in certain circumstances.

Otherwise, Switch is a barely adequate console, and a barely adequate handheld rolled into one, where there’s no need to transfer saves because you can take the entire thing with you. It’s useful for some, for sure, but when I think a handheld, I think something that travels more easily and conveniently. It also gets more of a pass because it’s not as though there’s any real competitor to it in the handheld space, and even the Steam Deck, which goes after a different market, is also big like the Switch.

Daterxboxlive191d ago

Yes. I remember i bought an offroad driving simulation on the switch a few years ago. Only when i started playing i realized the switch doesnt have analogue triggers. So there is only 100% gas or 0% gas, 100% brake or 0% brake. After that eye opener i only bought first party games ever since… cant believe I even bought the witcher before that… runs way better on my steam deck 😉

Flakegriffin191d ago

You play your own self if you create high expectations for third party titles on hardware from 2017 that uses internals from 2015.

Was Hogwarts Legacy Only Successful Because Of Nostalgia?

Shahmeer from eXputer: "I've always wondered whether the success of Hogwarts Legacy had much to do with nostalgia. The RPG is great but certainly not free of issues."

Markdn22d ago

I totally agree, and no replay value for sure but enjoyed every minute I was playing it. Not a Harry Potter fan but still really enjoyed

Lexreborn222d ago

I still haven’t finished it, mostly due to it not holding my interest after 20 hours. Wouldn’t say it’s a bad game, wouldn’t say it’s amazing I really can’t judge it fully due to not completing it.

Lexreborn222d ago

lol are people upset because I said I put 20 hours into the game and that because I haven’t finished I won’t criticize it’s value or if nostalgia generates it’s success? That’s funny

CrimsonWing6922d ago

Harry Potter is one of the biggest IPs in the world. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why it sold so much. It’s a great game on top of that, so the math kind of maths here.

Can’t wait for the article on if Zelda or Mario only sold well due to nostalgia.

Crows9022d ago

They're trying to find a fake reason for its success...the mainstream hate how successful it became because of the writer behind the series.

So now they want to say that people bought it not because they liked it but only because of nostalgia....as if harry potter is really that old or even a classic IP in the game industry.

thorstein22d ago

That doesn't even make any sense. The author made those statements before the game released. People knew ahead of time and wanted a boycott.

But most people knew any boycott would only punish the people who worked on the game and put their hearts into it (like most boycotts).

So many people bought it, enjoyed it immensely, and moved on.

VenomUK22d ago

@CrimsonWing69 A greatly in demand IP only takes you so far, if it was crap quality then the reviews and word of mouth would have stalled its sales. But it is a good game (judged by Metacritic and user reviews) and that has given the game legs.

Tzuno22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

ngl, it got me in the first half hour
after that, a big let down, mediocre at every step
only fans are praising it

Markdn22d ago

In what way was it mediocre, can't really find anything about it that was mediocre and I'm not a hp fan

Demetrius22d ago

It's still a good game almost time for a 2nd playthrough, the passion they put into it is🔥🔥 crazy how after a couple months or a year folks get to complaining about this n that about certain games smh childish mfs
