PS5 Sells Nearly 1.4M, NS Tops 129M Lifetime - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for August 2023

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console worldwide with 1,395,388 units sold for August 2023, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 42.23 million units lifetime worldwide.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 944,354 units to bring its lifetime sales to 129.42 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 431,629 units to bring their lifetime sales to 23.23 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 19,500 units to bring its lifetime sales to 117.11 million units.

Actually, since we now know only 25% of Series consoles sold are X, 25% of 23M is 5.75 million Series X consoles sold.
So 42M PS5 vs 5.75M XSX.

Some analyst said that currently it's 45/55 for new sales (not installed base)

Dude, the % gap is only getting bigger, not smaller, the only way to make the % gap smaller is if the Xbox started to slowly sell the same or more than PS5 and then we started to factor total units percentages, that is NOT happening, they are getting destroyed 2-to-1 or like this month 3-to-1 basically every month. September might be the only blip in the year with Starfield.

Starfields number on Xbox will show in September, but I doubt it has the impact as our dear Xbox fans has said/hoped for months.
My bet is that PS5 is up on top again in September, but that Series S will be a little closer, and then in October, PS5 will slaughter Xbox and probably doing so the rest of the generation.

By next month, you meant September (because this data/estimates is for August) or October? September will definitely be better for them because of Starfield but it's yet to be seen if they will be able to outsell the PS5.

HOWEVER, October will be a bloodbath in favor of the PS5! That much is guaranteed at this point.

September has the launch of the Spider-Man 2 PS5 consoles though, so even if the Xbox had a few more sales, I imagine the PS5 is still around 3x more for the month.

Am glad Sony is not compromising and not giving developers a hard time like they did with the PS3.
Competition is good but MS is definitely crossing lines in order to have a monopoly and outspending sony out of business.

PS5 selling 640k units more than PS4 in the same month of 2016 baffles me tbh, that's an impressive statement.

Even with the recent discounts, PS5 still is a good chunk more expensive than PS4 units ever were. If the PS5 is going to be able to sell better than PS4 with numbers like this regularly, which seems likely at this point, then I wonder what lifetime sales PS5 will be sitting at around 2027/2028.

Anyway, great numbers.

Usually, September to December will provide even higher sales in the console market. So it is very likely PS5 will have doubled Series sales by December, if not already by November.

No one other than diehard Bethesda fans that don't have a decent gaming PC would buy an Xbox for a reskinned game from the early 2000s. This wasn't realistic.

As I said Before, way past prime Bethesda got the best of the buyout. It's like signing Tom Brady to a 10 year 1 billion dollar guaranteed contract in 2023. But the difference is that Brady was a great player much longer than Bethesda was a great company.
