Spider-Man 2 creative director Bryan Intihar talks superheroes, PS5 and Insomniac's impressive run of releases.
At a recent visit of 11 bit studios, Wccftech got hands-on with Frostpunk 2 and spoke to the development team about it. Here's the exclusive Q&A.
Josh Sawyer is a name that has been familiar to RPG fans for decades. He's worked on Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights 2, Alpha Protocol, Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and most recently Pentiment. How did he get into game development, how has his design philosophy changed over the years, and why did he decide to do Pentiment a little differently?
Those are some great games. Icewind Dale I & II are underrated.
If Larian made Icewind Dale III, I'd lose my mind.
What a fantastic, thorough interview.
Since launching in October 2023, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has sold 11 million copies.
With a game called Spider-Man and made by Insomniac………..is anyone really surprised??? Congrats to them on their continued excellence in game crafting.
And still not profitable. Yikes.
Good deal for Marvel though. 50% cut of everything, zero work.
Glad to read this 🦍
Sums it up pretty much.
When you're happy outside of work and happy going to work, it becomes a cakewalk. Insomniac has shown before becoming 1st party and after, that they can bake a lot of tasty cakes and still have more cooking in the oven. One of Sony's best acquisitions. They get whatever they need to succeed from Sony. And in turn, they produce high quality games.
Can't beat that "symbiotic" relationship... did I just say that? Lol. Spider-Man 2 should do very well for both parties.
would love to see what they can cook up for VR2. Maybe a new resistance game some time after wolverine...?
Looking forward for another Ratchet and Clank game without Rivet. also without it being Open World.
“So we are always evolving and challenging ourselves to get better. Miles Morales had a better production process than Spider-Man 1. Ratchet & Clank had better production process than Miles. We are always evaluating and improving. Have we perfected it? No. But we are always asking how we can make the process better for everybody.
We are honest with ourselves that we don't do everything perfect, and that allows us to have that open mind about how we can be better. Not just in terms of making the game better, but also to feel better about coming to work every day. We will be learning a lot from this project as well.”
THIS! This shows a bit why Insomniac continues to release game after game, with top notch quality besting their previous work, and it’s much respected and appreciated by many, I’m sure.
Knowing they’ll be learning a lot from Spider-Man 2 and improving that all the more for the 3rd game or maybe a new IP is exciting, especially considering how bloody fantastic Spider-Man 2 looks, and not just from a visual standpoint.
