PS5 Best-Selling Console in the US in August, Xbox Series X|S Outsells Switch

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in the US in August 2023 in terms of units sold and dollar sales, according to figures from Circana (formerly The NPD Group). Circana includes the dates for the four week period of July 30 to August 26.

Madden being #1 for the month and #6 for the year says a lot considering how Armored Core was #2 for the month and is #20 for the year.

Armored Core is great but it’s niche compared to Madden that casuals buy. #2 isn’t bad at all though in my ideal world it would be number 1 easily.

It was during 2021 I want to say. It was actually a good year for their output and they had chip priority over Sony.

But once supply caught up for Sony the demand for Xbox went down since MS went on a content drought after Halo Infinite.

Every now and then, with the right promotions (fire sales) and during the month of Black Friday, Xbox has sometimes outsold PlayStation in the United States.

That's odd I thought if Xbox was going to outsell ps5 it would be August. With people buying them in preparation for starfield. But guess I was wrong on that one.

Didn't do well? What are you talking about. It had 1 million concurrent players, number 1 on steam and Number 1 at the UK boxed charts.

6 million players. Most sold and played than any other Bethesda game to date.

I was talking about its 83 overall score. Which is still dropping from the original 88!

But as to sales, I really dont believe anything that comes out MS mouth. What the hell is concurrent? And how does that translate to games sold? “Most sold and played” really?why did they couple it with “and played”? Why not just say “most sold” or better yet, give us the number sold… why is that missing?

Is it on gamepass? Did they count those? Because at this point I dont think anyone really knows.

Show me sales numbers and I’ll gladly admit its sales success though. No joke. If its their best sold, I’m sure they proudly announced the number sold. But I haven’t seen it myself.

What I don't get is why people are so gullible. You’ve seen MS lie and lie, but you still take their word.

It has its frustrations the falling score is on Bethesda for some of its glaring issues. Open Critic it's a 86. PC
still a 87. OG course lets just focus on the bad and only on the bad. Concurrent means currently playing, or played now in this case now. Who knows about the actual sales are. It's the most played and sold Bethesda game.

What do they need to lie about? Hifi did well and announced its player mile stones. Redfall failed and not a single peep because it clearly didn't do that well. So yeah they've been consistent.

I dont think you understood. The “most sold and played” is stated like that for a reason. If it was the highest selling, they would have told you how many it sold. They are lying again.

And its metascore has been falling since launch. They limited reviews prior to launch and got a 87. Then when the rest of the reviewers got to review it, it quickly fell to where it is now and falling still.

It's 6 on steam (played) with a peak of 200k. I don't think millions are playing it on xbox. (It's not #1 on xbox)

While we may not know the number sold. We do know that it was the number 1 sold game in the UK for at least a week, which is a big deal considering that it's only including xbox physical copies (since Steam doesn't do physical)

Btw, I was hoping you would figure it out yourself. But I will tell you what “most sold and played Bethesda game” means. They are adding sold copies to number of people that played it on gamepass and claiming the title of “most sold and played Bethesda game”.

Its extremely misleading because how many Bethesda games were released day one for gamepass? Do you know? Besides for all we know some of those people tried it once on gamepass and decided not to play it anymore. I just dont like being fooled is all I’m saying.

The Switch makes sense because it’s been out for a good long time and Switch2 is right around the corner. But the Xbox being down in only it’s third year is not a good sign , it’s around Xbox one numbers even with a budget model

I like to give sony only gamers here a hard time when I can but on a serious note you have to respect sonys body of work. They sell because gamers trust the brand. That comes through quality games and hardware. While I really don't care for the numbers game you gotta give them their flowers for constantly being in the top spot
