Saints Row & Red Faction IPs Will Be Kept Alive Despite Volition's Closure

Today publisher Deep Silver took to X (formerly Twitter) to follow up on the announcement of the closure of Saints Row developer Volition.

Not necessarily a bad thing having zero experience. Insomniac took a crack at Spider-Man and did it very well. Sucker Punch also made Ghost of Tsushima. Heck, some would say Ninja Theory did a great job with DmC.

Perhaps we're looking at "new teams" differently. I mean handing it off to a different team (one with no experience in these franchises or types of games). I don't mean a newly formed team.

But even then...a new team doesn't mean they're new to game development.

I'd also like your input on where The Initiative stands. They're new in the sense they've yet to produce any games and formed relatively recently, but comprised of industry veterans.

I'd love another Saints Row game but I can't see it happening after the response to the reboot.

I enjoyed the Saints Row reboot and i hope we see more titles in the franchise.

Reboot was trash and killed the developer.

I'm very happy to know the SR and RF franchises won't die. RF was a revolutionly fps at the time and loved the 4 og SR games.

In the same way Embracer have kept all the other IPs they've gobbled up alive?

Where's Timesplitters? Or Deus Ex, Borderlands, Legacy of Kain, Thief, Homefront, Kingdoms of Amular, etc.

They claim to have 900 IPs on their website and have done basically nothing with them. The only reason we are getting a new Tomb Raider is because it was already in development when it was acquired and they couldn't even be bothered to publish it - giving it away to Amazon.

I'll keep saying it in every Embracer article that pops up. Forget MS, EA or Activision. These guys are the absolute worst. They don't care at all about gaming or making games. They just wanted a big portfolio so they can flip it.

Johnny reset Earth in gat out of hell and it leads into Saints row.

Isn't it a ironic that games that had a massive campaign to be cancelled like Kingdom Come Deliverance for not having race diversity (in 1402 Bohemia, come on) or Hogwart's Legacy for being a J.K.Rowling IP were massive successes, but an IP like Sains Row that tried to comply with every single woke premise, sent it's developer to bankruptcy? it sure talks volumes of the real weight in all those cancel campaigns.

The Dev team knew better than us apparently and wanted to distance themselves as far away from the original fanbase as possible looking for that same elusive "modern audience" that Disney is chasing with every failing remake.

Funny thing is that "modern audience" clearly don't buy games and prefer to just virtue signal on the internet rather than out up cold hard cash for a product like us dinosaurs from decades gone who still enjoy crude humour they work so hard to silence.

Had they just retooled the franchise with a new engine but kept the cast going it could have actually been successful. Apparently some suit thought it better to chase stories about kids college loans in a game about gangbanging

We wanted a saints row and saints row 2 remake/remaster and volition knew and didn't care and this is the result. Good riddance.

Maybe the new developer will retcon that garbage reboot and make a real saints row game.
