Starfield (XSX) Review | ZTGD

ZTGD writes:

SPAAAAAAACE!

Space, the final frontier. Feels like a very cliché way to start this review, but also fitting. Starfield has been a long time coming. Bethesda Game Studios has been working on this game for nearly a decade. They claim it is the game they have always wanted to make. It is probably the biggest release for the Xbox ecosystem in over a decade. There is a lot riding on this one game. So much that no matter what happens it could never live up to in everyone’s eyes. After spending dozens of hours exploring the galaxy and building relationships with my crewmates, building outposts, and of course customizing my ship there is no denying how much love and care went into crafting this space opera. The real question is was the wait worth it?

The fact that this is bethesdas most polished game is a credit to what Microsoft can do for studios when it goes all in. Obviously they won’t get any credit for that on this site, but it makes me excited for the future titles coming out. Really enjoying the game so far. I doubt it will win game of the year with what a great year this has been for games, but it’s on the short list and that’s more than anyone expected.

“The fact that this is bethesdas most polished game is a credit to what Microsoft can do for studios when it goes all in. Obviously they won’t get any credit for that on this site”, why would they? I meant just a couple months ago a game from bethesda came out under microsoft supervision and was a bloody mess. Why can’t Microsoft show the same level of care to all of its studios?

To be fair... all MS did was give them more time. They had nothing to do with its development or testing. They just kept their hands off... same goes for Redfall.

That one is an oddball... A game that MS thought the devs wanted to make so they let them make it, but it turns out the devs didnt want to make it but didnt say anything and kept making it because they thought MS wanted it to be made. Neither side really spoke to the other and Redfall ended up the way it did. All because MS took a hands off approach.

Now that is usually a good thing as it shows trust that the teams can get their job done without being micromanaged. Here was a case where somebody (anybody) should have spoke up and either got the team to really commit or cancel it outright and move onto something they really DID want to make.

Well if you knew the facts you would know that Microsoft was admittedly too hands off with that game. It’s a completely different situation. That why I said “when they go all in”

I feel like the second big update that releases late this year will do just that. Part of the story expansion is also new means of transportation on planets.

A good DLC could turn some heads. The Destiny games got momentum that way too.

What player spike?

I checked steamcharts through the link in the article and it went from 8,000 to 11.500, so yea 20% but when the game peaked at 330,000 It's safe to say that the actual effect of this update was negligible.

Doubt it'll ever get redemption. As many developers have said in various interviews it's beyond saving.

Just release the mod tools and expansion and move on.

Cyberpunk 2077 had some strong bones i disliked it on launch because I could see the potential I could see the strengths of what they wanted to achieve but it wasn't done yet

They didn't get the memo the game is dead and the Bethesdabots only want magic and fantasy.

Starfield fans? The game only has 9 thousand current players, worldwide! As a company you cannot waste time on creating "Major features", it is simply not profitable. Just move on.
