Glad it comes to PS5, it was a really interesting experience.

Some parts were awfully bad, but it reaches some remarkable peaks. I think I'll replay it someday.

TGG_overlord275d ago

I know right? That is true...The balance actually reminds me of "Bullet Witch", some parts of the game is just pure awesomeness, while other parts of the game is anything but great...And to this very day, I'm still scratching my head over what actually took place during the development process of "Bullet Witch", since the game is so extremly unblanaced.

jznrpg275d ago (Edited 275d ago )

50$ is a crazy asking price. When it hits the 5-10$ bargain bin I may grab it then. I doubt it takes too long

TGG_overlord275d ago

Based on what? Isn't that the standard launch price more or less? In that case, don't hold your breath ;)

CappyBlack234d ago

Very lackluster game. Had high hopes for it, but it didn't cut it. Really only for people who appreciate the art of it all. It really doesn't deliver as the Myst title with obscene imagery it was trying to be.

jznrpg234d ago

Some Xbox sites were giving it 10’s

Tacoboto234d ago

The Xbox version's highest review score on Metacritic is an 80.

One review site gave the PC version a 10. One. Not some. One. That same site gave 100s to BG3, Starfield, Horizon Burning Shores, and FFXVI as well.

ModsDoBetter234d ago

Which sites?

As Tacoboto said, only one is showing a 10 and that's for the PC version. I'd also question that publications credibility given they gave Starfield and a dlc a 10 as well.

coolbeans234d ago (Edited 234d ago )

You're a big reason why N4G should add a Community Notes feature.

Tacoboto234d ago

I agree.

The opening puzzle was a little too vague because I missed something super obvious once I realized what it was. The few attempts at combat back at launch were very rough. It gave me one bout of motion sickness in a section of the game was was especially grey and linear.

But when puzzles felt not-too-obscure and you got out of the grey-on-grey corridors, the experience was unique at least.

I didn't have as much fun as something more whimsical and colorful as Call of the Sea, but it wasn't a waste of the 6-8 hours I put into it. A solid 6/10.

TGG_overlord234d ago

Fair enough. Even so, I had a real blast watching the world's most famous e-begger cry over this game though lol.

TGG_overlord234d ago

Imo, it's a very mixed bag of a game...To be fair though, I didn't walk into it with very high expections...

shinoff2183234d ago

To anyone that is interested this does have a physical release coming.

Vits234d ago

This game is great, but it's not for everyone. It doesn't hold your hand nor does it try to be accessible, combat is slow and you are always at a disadvantage so if you do engage you must make your shots count because the penalty for missing is often dying and that can reset a lot of your progress. Puzzles are in my opinion the best part, there are enough of them, they offer a good challenge and are also the best moment to appreciate the art style of the game.

The closest comparison that I can give would be with the original Echo Nights. And just like that game, I feel that you have to approach it with the mindset that it's not an action game and that you will get frustrated if you try to play it as one.

TGG_overlord234d ago

Do you remember old game "Bad Mojo"? That game wasn't for everyone either...This is the same kind of game in that aspect. Besides that, I agree with what you wrote.

Vits234d ago

Oh, Bad Mojo. Completely forgot about it and I definitely agree about it not being for everyone. If I recall correctly I couldn't stomach it for very long and I played it as sort of a challenge.

Concertoine234d ago

I agree, the game has stuck with me in all aspects of presentation: sound and visuals were on point.

crazyCoconuts233d ago

I thought it was pretty good for what it is. Neat how they tell a story without any words. I thought the combat/stealth part was the weakest part of the game. Imo the price should be more like $30 for this one

LordStig234d ago

Tool album cover: the videogame.

TGG_overlord234d ago

The art is on point at least ;)

Elda234d ago

Solely PS5 owners don't bother.

Scorn creeps on to PlayStation 5 later this year

I imagine it will be better thanks to the haptics of the controller. I tried to get into it on SX but it just didnt 'feel' right.

Tacoboto331d ago

I think the audio of the game coming through the controller would do more to improve the 'feel' than the haptics. There are a lot of subtle ambient noises that would be better communicated and more effective the closer they are to you the player.

There just isn't enough interaction to make haptics be the deciding factor on 'feel' over audio, IMO. Grey-on-grey art styles make me prone to motion sickness and I did get that once about midway through the game; I remember cranking up the volume when playing after that to get a better sense of those quieter tones.

DazaMc331d ago

I loved it up until the combat started. Terrible terrible combat.

Concertoine330d ago

It is. Best thing you can do is run away

Kurt Russell330d ago

It's also better when it doesn't take up any space on your HDD. I gave it a go, it's boring.

Flawlessmic330d ago

rubbish game, unless its going to be on the ps subscription save your money guys.

Elda331d ago

If they don't fix the combat which was a problem on the XB then it's not even worth it. It'll be dead when it comes to sales on the PS5.

crazyCoconuts331d ago

I think it was worth the time to play, it was interesting even though the combat was janky.
A memorable experience- I was pleasantly surprised.
Now I played it on a $1 GamePass trial...I wouldn't pay more than $15 for it imo

Elda331d ago

The game is retail priced at $40. PS owners aren't paying full price for Scorn knowing the combat is horrible. I doubt if PS owners would pay $15 let alone $10...lol.

Ashunderfire86331d ago

I was bored to tears watching gameplay videos of this game! I felt tired, because everything just looks the same, and weird. Yes the combat sucks bad too.

crazyCoconuts331d ago

it is weird and unique. ended up having a pretty decent story that you uncover with like no dialog. Pretty interesting. puzzles weren't bad. i'm glad i played it in the end

darthv72331d ago

If they add a VR mode... that would be much more immersive.

Elda331d ago

If they did make the game in VR for the PSVR2 & fixed the combat then it would probably stand a chance in sales on the PS5, otherwise most PS5 owners aren't buying Scorn especially at the retail price of $40.

ironmonkey331d ago

Yeah but everything sells more on ps that's a fact.

misterandy331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

PSVR would be great, but you’re missing the point if you think the combat needs to be worked on. The main character isn’t Doom Guy…

It’s not meant to be easy, and there are times when you’re meant to feel afraid and like you might not survive. It’s an intentional design of the game for you to experience that.

I would even argue that one particularly memorable encounter is some of the most fun I’ve had with a “boss fight” in my gaming history.

Vengeance1138331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

Another lost exclusive for Xbox, not much hope for this one being any good though, so maybe it should have remained on the other side of the fence.

darthv72331d ago

Its creepy and atmospheric and because of all the interactions with the various environmental designs... it just lacked that feeling of interaction. something the DS looks to remedy thanks to its haptics.

Elda331d ago

The combat was atrocious. If the developer doesn't fix that issue Scorn will do nothing when it comes to sales on the PS5. Their best bet would be to put the game on PS+.

Concertoine330d ago

I found the game fascinating to play, it felt like walking through a morbid art gallery. The animations, presentation and Kafkaesque atmosphere made it really interesting.

jznrpg331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

But MS doesn’t do timed exclusives.

Anyway this game got good scores but looked like a mediocre game , I wonder why that is ?

It got 10/10 from some sites.

purple101331d ago

When you had no food for months, even maggots seem tasty

ocelot07331d ago

It was bang average https://opencritic.com/game...

Some haptic feedback is noting going to help it much.

MrNinosan331d ago

Some 10s???
From what I remember, it got 5/5 by one outlet, attack of the fans or something.

StormSnooper331d ago

According to Spencer, MS does not do timed exclusivity. But here we are again. Seems they just say what they like with zero accountability.

raWfodog331d ago

I wouldn't mind if more 'exclusives' went this route and were timed instead of permanent. I'd imagine it should be like this for more AA titles and below.

S2Killinit331d ago

True, unfortunately MS has set course on making a large chunk of multiplatform gaming into exclusives. Essentially they will be blocking people from playing games they would have been able to play had it not been for MS.

Some xbox fans seem to be enjoying the concept of taking games away from others, but I think they will soon learn that this practice can go both ways.

Father__Merrin331d ago

My main issue was is that the game doesn't tell you anything. It needs to have pointers

misterandy331d ago

Gotta disagree with you there. One of the greatest things about Scorn is that you’re thrown in with literally nothing and you discover as you go, just like the main character.

This isn’t the game to have your hand held. It’s not a run-and-gun shooter, it’s an atmospheric experience that’s meant to make you feel lost and helpless at times.

That may not be your thing, but that’s how it was intentionally designed.

Concertoine330d ago

I'm with you, the obtuseness made the game for me. If there were objective markers and shit it would ruin it. Even when the game switches camera angles, it has a weird device/in-universe explanation which is cool.
