In a move sure to draw ire from players, Ubisoft reveals that users who don’t sign into their Ubisoft account could lose access to their games.

Yea, I don't advocate for piracy.. but Ubisoft is really asking for it with that move. You can't steal back games customers already bought. It's just as bad as piracy, and maybe worse bc it's the big corporations stealing from the little guy.

Ashunderfire86292d ago

This is the Devil 😈 advocate, but we did agreed to their terms of service before we play their games(hmm play their games hint😆). They might of included a poison pill 💊 in the terms of service like that crap. This is why downloading games online only should be put into question, especially when these companies make sure you don’t have the rights to own their products.

Tf I understand inactivity but that's ridiculous ngl.

EvertonFC293d ago

I get a security vulnerability email from Unisoft every single week, I don't bother with it anymore for that reason. Sort you're security out Ubisoft FFS.

darksky293d ago

Ubisoft should have no right to delete an account where the user has purchased games. If I buy games buy disc games but never play them, they do not automatically disappear after a few months. This should be illegal.

RpgSama293d ago

100%, inactive accounts with no account history, I'm ok with it, but if you spend money, definitely not.

HICK293d ago

That's why we should not buy digital and try to prevent an all digital future

NotoriousWhiz293d ago

Or don't support companies that threaten to take away your games. Easy.

Amplitude293d ago (Edited 293d ago )

Imagine being on PC, buying a bunch of games from the Ubisoft launcher, switching to PS5 this gen, then in a couple years switching back to PC only to have all your games erased cause you didn't log in for a gen? What absolute trash

@HICK: As a physical collector on console i totally agree with you - but in all honesty, shout out to Valve for being the only non-awful platform for digital content.
I cant think of a single anti-consumer thing they've ever done, and can think of a TON of pro consumer moves they've made to make the digital market easier to stomach.

I fully trust Valve. Every single other PC storefront can burn in hell though tbh, and I've seen enough console digital marketplaces go down for me to kinda hate those as well (as much as I have to use them for a lot of games)

This is legitimately the best argument to be pro piracy. The ability to get anything in the entire digital (and physical at an affordable price) library of older games would be completely wiped from the face of the earth if it wasn't for piracy.

Semi-related: but CoD and Diablo's always online single player bs is on par with Ubisoft here. Once those servers go down, the single player campaigns you bought are erased from history with no way to salvage them. I wish people would stop buying from other storefronts, stop buying always-online games, stop subbing to subscription services and stop supporting anything to do with streaming. Maybe im just old but god sometimes i kinda hate gaming these days lol

Well that's an awesome and very surprising turnaround. Cheers to the new studio and what they'll build!

RaidenBlack9h ago

Likely to continue their FPS project

isarai8h ago

That's..... confusing, so shut down but just reformed and same employer 🤔 sounds like pretty much what happened to Japan Studio basically just being rebranded as Asobi

ocelot077h ago

It is odd one I don't know how business deals work or the law of that kind of stuff. But is it possible Sony reached out and said hey we want you apart of Sony but don't want to purchase you for what ever reason. How about use disband and we will open a studio and hire you guys type of thing. Is that even possible?

isarai7h ago

Maybe it's to void/bypass some contract? I have no clue

VersusDMC3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

I guess the deviation team fell apart and didn't deliver good progress on what they pitched (they overhyped themselves when the team was announced)so Sony shut them down. They regrouped with a new team and a new pitch so Sony is giving them another shot.

And this time they are keeping it quiet to keep pressure down on the team. So people aren't asking everyday what deviation(or whatever the new team is called) is doing.

Edit: Also Sony never owned them. They just ended their partnership with them. Deviation decided to close on their own.

outsider16242h ago

Good point. You know, i was thinking of Days Gone too. They pitch an idea to Sony for Days Gone 2 but Sony didnt like it do they scrapped the whole thing. Maybe if a good pitch came by...they'd reconsider it.

isarai1h ago

That makes a bit more sense

lodossrage1h ago

To be fair, Sony didn't shut them down. Devation was independent. Sony pulled funding on the project they were working on. As a result, they couldn't run so Devation decided to close on their own.

roboteye2h ago

If this was MS they'd be gone.

Goodguy012h ago

Maybe make a smaller game this time?

Elda2h ago

Good for them that they were able to work it out. Hopefully they're developing something interesting.

Rainbowcookie1h ago

I think Sony is thinking long term as a replacement for Call of Duty M$ edition.

There won't be no more acquiring game publishers from Microsoft in the future . Xbox has to pay Microsoft back. It might take two decades to do that.

sagapo5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

I don’t understand what you’re saying. Xbox IS microsoft so there’s no “paying back “.
And MS gross profit in 2023 was over 140 billion dollars so forget your 2 decades.

Unless you mean the money MS invested in Xbox (acquisitions included) and the time it will take for xbox as a brand to gain that money back on it’s own, then yeah, that could take a while.

SonyStyled5h ago

“There won't be no more acquiring game publishers from Microsoft in the future”

No bro, there do be is for Microsoft not acquiring for what is now if not what it be is 😂

Ms3tjt3h ago

“ Xbox has to pay Microsoft back. ”

Aka

“I don’t know how business works”

Domkakop1h ago

You might need to take a good hard look in the mirror

Ms3tjt1h ago

Yeah I forgot Xbox is separate from Microsoft and Xbox borrowed the 69bn from Microsoft, and Microsoft didn’t get COD, Candy crush etc in return 😂😂👏

jwillj2k48h ago

There really needs to be a class action lawsuit here. You buy these companies just to put people out of jobs. And it’s not like something happened to derail their plans this WAS the plan. Microsoft has no business in this space at all.

franwex8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Microsoft has been doing this for years. They simply want the IPs. Look at Nokia. Look at Skype. This time it simply expanded to games. Gaming is not as important to Microsoft’s executives as it was to the founders too. Bill Gates was willing to sell the og Xbox at a loss. Steve Balmer approved the red ring of death fiasco. This CEO isn’t really a gamer.

-Foxtrot7h ago

Maybe it's time though to put a stop to it and use a big giant like Microsoft as a huge example to the rest of these big companies.

There has to be a line drawn somewhere.

People like the FTC and the like went against Microsoft yet their Actvision deal was still allowed to go through yet look what's happened...it's not even Acitivisions studios aswell, it's Bethesdas.

RNTody8h ago

Ninja Theory, Perfect Dark, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Wolfenstein 3, Dishonored, Prey, Doom, Quake... something tells me that bad things are going to happen to these entities under Microsoft.

anast7h ago

Good thing the bosses of all those small studios made their money.

glenn19796h ago

they cant do it right now they will get burned

Xbox No Longer Has Its Head In The Game

Microsoft & Xbox have shut down Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks to lay off more workers, insinuating that they're not in the game anymore.

XiNatsuDragnel16h ago

They're headless for a long time because closing tango isn't exactly a good move

1Victor12h ago

“Acquisitions always come with cuts”

343 trillion points shield activated
343 trillion percent damage negate activated
All damage reduced to 1 for 343 trillion turns.
MICROSOFT DEFENSE FORCE IS A GO

Tacoboto11h ago

Especially for Microsoft, when Booty pretty much said they didn't know how to handle that many studios.

Why even make the acquisition then.

-Foxtrot11h ago

Didn’t they make the swipe for Bethesda when Sony wanted like 6 months exclusiveness for Starfield

It’s like…chill, you got Rise of the Tomb Raider for a year.

romulus2310h ago

Do they always come with senseless cuts becasue that's exactly what cutting Tango was, senseless.

H912h ago

Everyone's acting now that game companies care about games and Xbox is committing the Ultimate betrayal, they are all like this and you have just been quiet about it for far too long

Nuclearmoon11h ago

I wonder if Microsoft do pull out of the console market that it might open the door for valve to relaunch the Steambox. Competition is good for the industry but Microsoft don't even seem to be trying anymore.

UltimateOwnage7h ago

Steam / Valve are one of the few truly pro-consumer bright spots in gaming right now. Thankfully.

jwillj2k410h ago(Edited 10h ago)

“Your game has won some pretty significant awards and is a show piece for where we want to go in the future.”

1 hour later.

“We’re gonna have to let you go. You can’t cover our 100 billion dollar acquisition. Oh and take your awards too 👍🏾”
