There is a character but he never leaves the ship. The first game is free on ps plus extra. But it's wildly different than the sequel. The first one is a rogue like. The sequel is an rpg.

Oh, I'm very happy to hear this. I thought it was more like the first. Might check this out down the road. I did notice that the waypoint system seemed a lot like what I experienced in Anthem.

Spaceship is the primary character. There economies and typical rpg style upgrade paths etc.

Oh badass! Ive wondered if this was ever gonna make the jump. Haven’t played in a minute but have fond memories of everspace in general. Would be cool to have console crossplay (and the ability to turn or pc crossplay :) )
