Best settings? There are no "best" settings, the player plays with the settings that they find work the best for them as an individual. One specific setting layout is not going to be best for all.

So they actually recommend avoiding performance mode. Because the 60 fps is unstable. 30 fps is a bit tough to swallow in 2023. I’m curious what those with a VRR tv would say about performance mode.

I think a lot of it boils down to how consistent it is and how well it is implemented. Additionally, what kind if TV you have also plays a large role in how each mode looks and plays. I typically prefer performance over resolution but for forbidden west, resolution mode looked so good and was so smooth I didn't even notice the drop in frames. I've heard others say it looked choppy for them, but on my TV it was great. Just do what works for you and be happy.

In many cases with a good OLED, motion smoothing (assuming you have a television that doesn't introduce copious artifacts when running interpolation) introduces minimal lag and can make 30fps look/feel closer to 120 or at least 60 or better. Resolution + buttery smooth and no blur when panning = nice. Works great for just about anything other than games where reaction times are most critical.

I remember back in the day it was a simple as putting a disc in my PS1 and within a minute or two I'd be playing the game. Gaming has changed and not entirely for the better.

C’mon now, there were games with bugs and performance issues back then. I just think the library and risks publishers/devs took on making unique IPs were amazing in those days. Now, we get the same ol’ same ol’. Thankfully it can be patched.
