In an exclusive new interview with IGN, Etrian Odyssey's development team talks about adapting the classic series for Switch as well as its hefty price point.
VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Who doesn't love a good video game compilation? They bring together multiple games previously spread out across the years or across various platforms and arrange them into a tidy, accessible package, often with some modern bells and whistles. Some of the best compilations of 2023 included Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection, which upgrades three classic quests in high-definition; The Lara Croft Collection, which brings isometric adventures Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris to Switch for the first time; Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, the ultimate way to experience the saga; and Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1, home to several of Hideo Kojima's works of art."
Good stuff, but I feel like some collections like Etrian Odyssey are unappealing because of the price, or in the case of Metal Gear Solid, performance issues.
New Switch eShop sale includes lowest prices ever for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles, Etrian Odyssey, and more.
Atlus' re-release of the first three games in the series through Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection isn’t the ideal compilation for these classic portable RPGs, but it’s the best one that we’re likely to get.
An $80 price point is very good reason to buy it used from a local shop for $40. I will never pay these ridiculous prices for games. $70 is ridiculous too. All the PS5 games I have were bought used for between $15 and $30. Exorbitant prices on day one is a deterrent for sure. Especially when the game will undoubtedly be patched up and improved after release. So why not just wait until the game is in it's optimal state and pay half price?
As a big EO fan I say that this is a big 'no, thanks' for me. 80 dollars is way too much and impossible to justify it. 'But there are three games', yes, and TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection features more than 10 games and it still costs 39 dollars, US$ 27,99 right now while on a sale on PSN. I'll wait for a huge price drop
Did not take long for devs to start with the absurd pricing. 70$ opened the flood gates to this BS and it isn't going away. Voting with your wallet does jack shite when you have drones of fanboys and casuals willing to pay up. What're the benefits for us again for higher prices?
Thanks to sony pushing for 70$ now they want 80$.... Devs Getting greedy will get me to leave gaming
For a whopping three games that potentially provide hundreds of hours of entertainment each, I can think of far worse ways to spend $80.
