Tekken 8 Aims to be True Next-Generation Fighting Game - Hardcore Gamer

It is amazing just how well the Tekken series has stood the test of time. The series has been around for 28 years and has thrived on being the best at 3D. The true next generation fighter looks to be here.

Its still a current gen fighting game that could have been ported to last gen consoles..probably easily.

Flewid638413d ago

Nobody wants to admit this but I will die on that exact hill. Got a whole channel dedicated to this unfortunate reality that fighting games never seem to get out of.

gangsta_red412d ago (Edited 412d ago )

Bad take, again. The article even explains why this entry is specific to next gen consoles.

Yes, it probably could be ported but then all the effects, environments, character models, etc would have to be downgraded and then it would just be Tekken 7.

You would think the legendary wolf would know this.

Terry_B412d ago (Edited 412d ago )

Yeah..because Tekken 8 is all about the effects and not the gameplay, right?

..the article even explains all the gameplay changes and why they matter.

Your comment is like saying that T6 on the PSP would have been T5 because of the graphical downgrades. Which is not the case of course.

Again..bad comments are bad ^^

Flewid638412d ago (Edited 412d ago )

Whats there to downgrade? There are already games on last gen hardware that look better than this.

gangsta_red412d ago (Edited 412d ago )

"Your comment is like saying that T6 on the PSP would have been T5 because of the graphical downgrades."

No, that is not what my comment is saying. Exactly how is that even a comparison?

Again, it's not just the effects, the game is built using UE 5, the game will run in 4k and 60fps, there are also a quite a few fighting mechanics that were changed and a lot more added for gameplay from 7 to 8. Stripping all of this and possibly having to leave some mechanics out would just make it Tekken 7. So again, horrible comment of porting to last gen consoles being "probably easy".

Terry_B412d ago

Because the PSP version of Tekken 6 was actually a downgrade in terms of graphics. The gameplay however was unchanged.

What kind of game mechanics seen in T8 wouldnt be possible on a PS4?

Oh yes..Tekken 7 runs in 4k and 60 fps as well. On my PC at least ;)

gangsta_red412d ago

"Oh yes..Tekken 7 runs in 4k and 60 fps as well. On my PC at least ;)"

How dare you!

"What kind of game mechanics seen in T8 wouldnt be possible on a PS4?"

They've added a number of mechanics with the new heat system and the recovery gauge. Not saying these mechanics wouldn't be possible on PS4, but the combination of all of these, new character models, particle effects, lighting, 60fps/4k, etc etc would have to be sacrificed if they wanted to port this over to last gen consoles.

Street Fighter 6 say hello PS5

Terry_B412d ago

SF6 is also coming to PS4.

Retroman410d ago

My point was Street Fighter 6 is coming to ps5 too and ps4

HeliosHex413d ago

It definitely looks nice. Don't know about that claim though.

generic-user-name412d ago

T8's stages certainly look a lot bigger and more detailed than T7's, there's also a bunch of particle effects going on. But outside of that I'm not sure there's anything here that wouldn't run on last gen.

carrotcakeag412d ago

To people saying it could be a last gen game: they couldn't without downgrading it, which misses the point of the project. Consider that even T7 had to run at just 720p on Xbox One and 900p on PS4.

T8 rebuilt all of its characters with a much higher polygon budget than T7. It might be hard to tell from low-bitrate streaming videos but it's a substantial generational upgrade targeting new consoles and using Unreal Engine 5.

It's also not acceptable for fighting games to be 30 fps like many of the best looking current gen games, so their minimum has to be 60 fps even if a quality preset is offered. To play this at an acceptable resolution with a locked 60 fps, it's not close to being possible on old hardware.

gangsta_red412d ago

Absolutely agreed. Seeing the detail on Law alone let's you know the amount of work out in for each character model specifically for these consoles.

Flewid638412d ago (Edited 412d ago )

I dunno about each. Law looks heavily detailed but Jun looks like she has no facial textures. Overall I feel like the visuals look flat & plastic. Obnoxious light bursts everywhere that I thought would be retired by 1999. The Heat System looks good but the fact that it has everybody glowing with aura for the majority of the match looks tacky.

Does the game look ugly so far? Not at all. But these visuals (and animations) are very par of the course.

gangsta_red412d ago (Edited 412d ago )

@Flewid
"...but Jun looks like she has no facial textures"

I think this may be an actual art direction done on purpose. A lot of Japanese art and animes, I find when they want to portray a pure, wholesome female character they usually go the very pale/white, no facial expression or details. It's definitely to show she's more angelic in looks compared to her (ex) husband Kazuya's hard devil look.

"Obnoxious light bursts everywhere that I thought would be retired by 1999."

I have to say, I was annoyed with this when I first saw it in SF6, but it has grown on me and I think it looks fantastic for Tekken 8. Adds a lot of flare and is visually appealing.

"But these visuals (and animations) are very par of the course."

I disagree, I have never been a Tekken fan. I've played a few in the past but was never my go to fighting game like SF or KoF, but this is the first time that I have been pumped to play Tekken 8.

Mortal Kombat's Way Of Dealing With Rage Quitters Is Just What Tekken 8 Needs

Fahad from eXputer: "Bandai Namco has been banning excessive rage quitters in Tekken 8, but their solution doesn't punish those who don't rage quit as often."

Furesis25d ago

This "issue" has been blown way out of proportions. I have never seen someone rage quit on anyone that i've watched and i personally have maybe close to 200h in myself and this has never happened to me. Sure if they can make it like MK great but this is such a none issue imho.

slayereddy22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Your experience is nothing compared to the information they will have on disconnects, so if they say it is an issue you will accept that it is an issue that needs to be dealt with.

ReBurn24d ago

I'm ok with banning serial pluggers in ranked matches. But what I would like to see happen instead is to put people with higher than acceptable disconnect percentages into matches with other pluggers until they stop disconnecting. Let the pluggers play together in separate lobbies until they learn to lose gracefully.

slayereddy22d ago

As well as the measures they have implemented why can't they just seamlessly change the inputs from player to AI player so the player can continue the match and still recieve the match points.
