Mortal Kombat 12 Announced; Releasing in 2023

Mortal Kombat 12 has just been announced in one of the most unexpected and unexciting ways.

Yeah like that was just outta the blue, no reveal trailer or anything. Like we kinda knew it was coming before injustice 3 going by the leaks but like this I thought it was ? at 1st.

MK ditched its simplistic style in favor of a much more complex, street fighter type system (frame counting, etc all being utilized)... which I respect, it's awesome, but I just don't have enough time to get good at it anymore... it isn't like when I was a teenager and had all the free time in the world, lol. So, sadly, as much as I love MK, I find it frustrating to play these days, because so many kids with the time to get good at it wipe the floor with me. That said, that's just my own personal gripe, and I do think it is awesome that they're trying to make the game deeper and more challenging, as that was one of the biggest criticisms it had when I was growing up, that it lacked the depth of SF.

It's definitely geared toward the eSports crowd, but I feel like it's still simplified enough that the casual fighting gamer (like me) can string together enough of a combo to do fine. Granted I don't play online at all. I loved MK11. I'll take another one like it vs going back to say MK Armageddon. I really keep hoping for a remaster of MK9 too.

Not me. MK11 still feels fresh and I just plowed through MKXL. I’m MK’d out. Woulda bought Injustice 3 full price. MK12 I’ll wait for the deep sale.

MK is my favorite franchise and I’m not much of a DC guy besides Batman and Watchmen. MK11 wasn’t well received in the competitive community was dropped fairly quickly. It’s been dead for a little over a year. There is a whole redemption arc that you are missing because you are behind (which is fine).

I wouldn’t have bought I3 at all. I will buy the collectors edition of MK12 and now I don’t have to wait another 5 years for a new MK so I’m excited. I guess we cancel each others sale out lol

I am not sure if they've even switched to 4. They have been using their branch of UDK (which was UE3 at the time) since the Mortal Kombat Reboot. And they've upgraded over time to bring it PBR shaders etc. so even if it is not 4, it would be a very close version of UDK to 4.

Edit: MK11 used their Custom Unreal, so I'm imagining the same will be the case for MK12

True lol. NRS has the worst luck with leaks 😂 I guess it comes with waiting so long to announce but I like the 3-4 month marketing cycle that they did with 11.

Love this series, but it’s either buy the full blown premium version including season pass or wait a year to get all of the content. MK11 was awesome, but they know how to milk that cow.
