Odd when they just drop the 1st with improvements.

Number1TailzFan451d ago

Do the bare minimum for maximum profit.. That's Nintendo when it comes to milking games and hardware.

septemberindecember450d ago

They literally just released Metroid Prime Remastered which is a complete visual remake of the game for $40...bare minimum yeah right

Jin_Sakai450d ago

Metroid Prime remaster puts most remasters to shame nowadays.

Inverno450d ago

Then you have Activision which released all three Crash and Spyro games remade from the ground up in one collection. This is the bare minimum. Nintendo could've remastered all three games and released them as one collection. Same with Skyward Sword, their emulated port of the Mario games. Then there's the Master Chief collection, which should be the gold standard for how to bring over a multi game franchise to a new console.

RaiderNation450d ago

Activision released not one, but TWO trilogy remakes (Crash and Spyro) at 39.99 each. Take Two released the Bioshock Trilogy upgraded for next gen for 60.00. Stop capping for this billion dollar company already! Nintendo completely sucks when it comes to consumer value!

NecrumOddBoy450d ago

The MP Remastered is polished up but I wouldn’t call it a complete visual remake.

septemberindecember450d ago (Edited 450d ago )

@inverno

Yeah, that was also a great remaster project. That doesn't make Metroid Prime the bare minimum.

@raidernation

Okay, Bioshock wasn't remade in anyway. Crash and Spyro trilogy were. Those were excellent value. It wasnt too long ago that Sony put out Shadow of the Colossus remaster for $40, and that was still a great product.

@necrumoddboy

It is a complete visual remake. Look at comparisons. Lighting, models, textures, etc. The only thing that has remained is the skeletal animations

neutralgamer1992450d ago

September

Other companies have done remakes/remasters trilogies for $40. Let's not act like Nintendo are known for over charging. They once charged $60 for a cardboard box

septemberindecember450d ago

@neutralgamer

Yeah, other companies have remade trilogies. Many companies haven't. Recent examples of remade or remastered games that were not trilogies or $40

-The Last of Us
-Crisis Core
-Demon Souls
-Crash Team Racing
-Trials of Mana
-Shadow of the Colossus
-Diablo 2

Idk why everyone is acting like the crash and Spyro trilogy are what typically happens. The above games were reworked (most often using original base code with graphical improvements) and launched either at the same price or for more than Metroid Prime. Yet Nintendo is just doing the bare minimum??

septemberindecember449d ago

Love how when you bring up games like The Last of Us, Demon Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, or Diablo 2 being listed for the same or more than Metroid Prime and using the same technique (i.e. having the base code and building off of that) nobody has an actual argument. Just slam that disagree button boys!

Again, this website shows it’s bias. Nintendo does it and it’s bad despite them releasing a full on visual overhaul of the first game. Any of the other 2 console makers do this “masterpiece! Man what wil Sony/Microsoft do next?”

Sad thing is, this isn’t even confirmed as it’s just a speculation by Jeff Grub. Yes the guy, like many other gaming analysts, have been right about their predictions, but he’s also been wrong. This pushes the bias of this website even harder….

DankSinatra450d ago

People hitting that disagree but can’t seem to speak up

VariantAEC446d ago

@DankSinatra
Crash and Spyro were first released in 1996 and 1998 (respectively) on PS1 with their respective remasters coming almost 20 years after their original releases which while they sold well enough to keep on making sequels, weren't equivalent to the "mindcrack" that Mario, Zelda or Pokémon are.

Shadow of The Colossus looked unmistakably better than its PS2 version and was also only $39.99 USD on release in 2018.
https://www.gamereactor.eu/...
Article title: "Shadow of the Colossus remake gets a price"
Excerpt: "For us in the UK it's £29.99, but in Europe it'll cost €39.99, with the US price being $39.99 USD. What's more is that, as reported by Wccftech, a fact sheet from Sony says that PS4 Pro owners can play the game in 4K resolution at 30 FPS, or 1080p at 60 FPS."
The same was true for basically all of the games while Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion was $49.99 USD at launch. The worst offender is The Last of Us which was remastered and then remade just 9 years after the original PS3 game launched and the original and remake actually outsold basically all Metroid games combined... so I think it deserved to be a $70 game when it was modernized for the current generation with RT and accessibility features.

Bioshock didn't get "remastered" for its PS3 release a year or two after launching originally on Xbox 360 and the recent 2020 remaster included all three games which the dev thought sold well enough to warrant a re-release at... oh what's that? $39.99 USD for three games again.

So from that list again...
- The Last of Us: Part 1 (PS5) $70
- Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII: Reunion $49.99
- Demon Souls (PS5) $69.99
- Crash Team Racing $59.99 after the successful release of the remastered trilogy likely spurring the price hike.
- Shadow of The Colossus $39.99, but it was included because it's just a single remaster.

I didn't include everything because I really didn't care enough I suppose Diablo 2 and Trials of Mana remastered could've sold new for $21 trillion dollars a pop I really don't care, those weren't PS 1st party games and neither were the Spyro and Crash remasters, but PS set the precedent for $40 remasters and full proce remakes, but Nintendo just sold you a $40 remaster and will sell you the rest of the trilogy for what? Another $40 for the other two games with no new features and visuals... but that's ok?

Yeah unfortunately there is an argument that this is bad and they are basically doing the bare minimum.

DankSinatra446d ago (Edited 446d ago )

@VariantAEC

So to sum up what you’re saying:

“You’re correct, when other companies do it it’s fine but when Nintendo does it it’s the worst”?

You literally just long winded explained what I said.

And you both ignored where I stated AND did not read the article where the “this is not confirmed but a prediction from someone who is an analyst” to say that the other 2 games will not be remastered in the same quality. The entire “this is why it’s bad” is hinged on this very reason despite it being nothing but hearsay.

You call it bare minimum yet it’s a complete visual overhaul of the original. Bare minimum is upping the resolution and calling it “remastered” like so many games Sony has released in the past of their “classic” collections (ps3 era and a good chunk of ps4. Remasters). You can say “well its all 3 games!” All you want, it doesn’t change the fact that this doesn’t apply to all “remastered” games they have released over the years.

So again, the bias here is very showing.

FinalFantasyFanatic449d ago (Edited 449d ago )

Great to have the games, just don't charge me alot of money for Prime 2 and 3, although knowing Nintendo, they'll probably milk it a bit at least, probably.

Snookies12450d ago

Please don't let this be true... If it is though, it really doesn't surprise me.

Neonridr450d ago

I mean I'd rather have them than not at all, but after the 1st title being so perfectly recreated, it's a shame they wouldn't want to do the same for the other 2.

lonewolf10449d ago

Exactly, would be such a wasted opportunity.

VariantAEC446d ago

"...it's a shame they wouldn't want to do the same for the other 2."
This was the plan from the start if it wasn't they would've remastered the whole trilogy to begin with.

Neonridr445d ago

I mean they might have done the first to see reception and sales before committing to the other 2.

VariantAEC445d ago

They're supposed to be making a 4th Prime game anyway, so testing the waters seems like an utterly irrelevant affair, no?
