Resident Evil 4 Remake Is Locking Some Treasure Behind DLC

Resident Evil 4 remake is seemingly locking some treasure collectibles behind the Treasure Map Expansion, which comes bundled with the digital deluxe edition.

You might not remember it considering how much of a roll Capcom has been on lately, but one of the things the studio was most known for some time ago was its shady DLC practices. Perhaps the best example of this is when Capcom used to lock off DLC characters despite them being on the disk and finished, clearly cutting content out to re-sell it back to the player.

Really Capcom? Is this a joke...have you guy learned nothing.

Do DLC sure but at least let others be able to get this later down the road.

Eidolon465d ago

Get this later down the road? Like after a playthrough?
Well they need to go back to the drawing board for DLC/making money off add-ons. Because this is shocking they'd even have this as DLC.
Also, wouldn't this make a playthrough easier, because the treasure can be sold, essentially the currency for upgrades etc?

-Foxtrot465d ago

For example

If there’s a skin for a gun or weapon in general that you can unlock early then allow people without the DLC to find it within the game much later

So treasure wise, allow us to find this treasure the hard way

GoodGuy09465d ago

And you bet SF6 will be pretty heavy on dlc as well. I just really hope they don't do dlc horribly with future Monster Hunter games. And at least Capcoms been pretty good with their AAAs for a good while now.

shinoff2183465d ago

It's no excuse but I get what you mean.

VersusDMC464d ago

All capcom games have alot of DLC. Just checked Monster Hunter rise and there are single hair styles for 1.99. 9.49 for a three character edit voucher(whatever that means)

All of the games have these DLCs if you check the store.

Having said that i don't really care as i have usually play their games so much without ever paying for DLC or feeling like I'm missing out.

Yi-Long464d ago

Hence why I haven’t picked up Monster Hunter Rise. I see a game I like, I check it out in the store, I see a long list of greedy DLC, I quickly back out.

I don’t mind them charging for actual expansions (Like Witcher 3, the upcoming Cyberpunk expansion, etc) which add on top of an already complete package, but this kind of nickel-and-dime greed only ensures I lose interest real fast.

CrimsonWing69465d ago (Edited 465d ago )

I’m going to challenge everyone here. How would you sell a Deluxe Edition? I’d assume there’d be additional DLC for the Deluxe Edition not in the standard edition… seeing how everyone and their mother does this with Deluxe Editions.

If that’s the case is it the DLC that’s the problem or different editions for a game?

VersusDMC464d ago

I don't really care what they put in the deluxe edition. There will always be people who see it as a rip off.
At least the items are not lost forever if you don't buy the deluxe edition like preorder bonuses from back in the day(cloud KH1 costume for Dissidia!!!). You can buy the deluxe upgrade separately and it will go on sale as well.

Yi-Long464d ago

I wouldn’t be selling any ‘Deluxe’ edition to begin with. If I would release a game, I’d sell the complete package and everyone gets the same content. That’s it. I wouldn’t feel right about this nickel & dime stuff when I’m already asking folks to put down 60+ bucks to please play and enjoy my game.

CrimsonWing69464d ago

So, really we should be upset about Deluxe Editions, which is the industry standard, not just a “Capcom thing”.

Flawlessmic464d ago

This problem really started with digital deluxe editions.

With physical copies, you got the steel book, and a few other goodies, without that now you do need to give people something extra and stuff like this seems to be what the devs have settled on.

The content is almost always worthless.

Like I got the deluxe edition for hogwarts and yea the dark arts robes are cool but u get over them quick as there are many cool cl9thes options in hogwarts.

This stuff should be nothing to get to worked up over.

BrainSyphoned464d ago

72 hour jump start for Hogwarts was why I bought it. Didn't even look at the other bonuses.

jambola464d ago

Soundtrack, early access, cosmetics
The way most people do

-Foxtrot464d ago

Easy. Just have a weapon skin or outfit you can unlock earlier.

Not something extra which standard players have no way of getting.

As long as that items or whatever is obtainable eventually then fair game, if it's not then it's bullshit.

CrimsonWing69464d ago

So, your suggestion for a Deluxe edition is to pay extra to unlock things early that you can unlock in the standard edition later?

That wouldn't sell sh*t. It absolutely makes sense to offer something extra in a Deluxe Edition to make it worth the additional price you pay.

All I'm seeing here, is "bad Capcom", when in reality it's "bad industry". I might add that this is nothing that we haven't seen before with a Resident Evil game. Hell, I paid extra to get exclusive costumes in RE0 HD. How is this different from Deluxe Items like additional keychains, a helpful pack of items, some outfits, etc? Here they just literally add additional treasures to make more money easier.

I think what all the complainers really want is a single addition of the game with all content available. That's not our industry anymore. It hasn't been for a long while and it isn't a "Capcom thing".

The point I'm trying to make is this "DLC" exclusive to this RE4 Deluxe Edition just sounds like extra items to get in order to make money faster to buy the same items included in the Standard Edition. I don't think there's anything egregious here, especially since we've been dealing with this since what, pre-orders in 2007?

I go on PSN and almost every game release has 2 or even 3 versions of a game and the only things you really see in the higher priced additions are inconsequential content only available in that version.

Your standard experience isn't going to be a fraction of the deluxe experience because additional treasures aren't available for you. Are you upset about the exclusive attache case keychain, too? Because that ain't in the standard edition.

I don't know, like I feel people making a big deal about this are just oblivious to the industry practices that have been going on for more than a decade. It's not Capcom, it's the industry because you can get pissed at everyone who has a Deluxe Edition available for purchase.

This crap does have Denuvo on PC. If EMPRESS can crack it, well you know all DLC is for free. Actually all cracked games that have DLC are included. If only it was on GOG that's my go to now, because of DRM free games.

Overall Game of the Year 2023

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Those that made it onto the Shortlist below are each special in their own way. Alan Wake 2, a long time in the making, dazzled players with its cutting-edge graphics and brilliant narrative. Baldur's Gate III wowed critics and consumers alike with an amazing cast of characters and dizzying gameplay freedom. Final Fantasy XVI impressed with its beautiful cut-scenes and fresh take on action combat. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a game under the shadow of impossibly high expectations, invigorated its audience with endless opportunities for experimentation. And Resident Evil 4 riffed on an 18-year-old formula, in some instances improving on one of the best games of all time."

*shrug*

It's a Nintendo-heavy site. What else can be said?

anast119d ago

A copy-paste game over BG3...Gotta get that access.

coretone113d ago

BG3 is overrated. It's the worst BG there is.

anast112d ago

Give me some exact reasons why it is overrated. I have some ideas, but I want to hear yours first.

Star ocean 2 remake. That's easy to answer

Best Lead Performance of 2023

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "As the average game script balloons in dialogue there's greater demand for marquee acting talent. And as illustrated by both good & poor examples from 2023, sympathizing with a protagonist's struggle greatly relies on both the writing and delivery. This is emphasized in two unique ways by this year's shortlist: the addition of a voice fundamentally altering Dead Space remake's story beats & the dual protagonist structure in Alan Wake II. A fumble in either of those respects would've resulted in lesser works; fortunately, they're among some of the year's most celebrated titles."

Best VR Game of 2023

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "2023 was a notable year for VR hardware, with both Sony's PSVR2 and Meta's Meta Quest 3 arriving on the scene. Both of them have primarily earned a considerable amount of praise for their technological advancements, but that's not to say their software output was extinct. Granted, early adoption tends to favor older ports with improved visuals and new controller/headset gimmicks; it comes with the territory. But within that flow of ports and updates came an exclusive for each respective platform reaching our shortlist. It's too early to tell if that presages a bountiful surplus of future masterclass VR games, but it's a welcoming sign all the same."

“Horizon Call of the Mountain” had more bells and whistles and has some wow moments for VR newbies. But I had more fun playing “Synapse”.

DaleCooper129d ago

Synapse was my VR GOTY. Such a great game.

coolbeans128d ago

Damn. I want to try that one soon.

Leeroyw129d ago

Red Matter 2 was it for me. The visuals, scope and writing was incredible.

coolbeans128d ago

Another one I missed from last year.

DaleCooper125d ago

Just picked this up, can't wait to play it!

coolbeans128d ago

Don't spoil the surprise for everyone. ;)
