Forspoken PC Requirements Confirm That RAM Specs Are Going Up

Luminous Productions shared the final system requirements of Forspoken and they're very high, especially when it comes to RAM, GPU, and CPU.

I used 16GB 15-16 years ago when I quit PC gaming so 32 Gb shouldn’t be an issue when you can put 64GB in most mobos . I would put 64 if I was still PC gaming

Crows90499d ago

Except how many gb of ram do consoles have?

Now you see it don't make much sense.

Mr Logic499d ago

You cannot assume that a PC will have a fast SSD so you compensate by pulling assets into RAM ahead of time. It's not that complicated.

bangoskank499d ago

Can a console run the game at 60fps in 4k?

SpacedDuck499d ago

Makes perfect sense when a PC will destroy visually what any of the current gen consoles can do and the fact you are.......I don't know running an entire OS on top of the game and background programs.

MadLad499d ago

@spacedduck

Developers typically don't factor in what might be going on in the background. Of course they factor in the OS, but their ram needs are kind of ridiculous and tells me they didn't focus on optimization, and basically want PC gamers to simply power through it.

Not surprising, considering the company.

Anomander499d ago

@crows90
It makes sense if you want to run it higher than 4k@60 with all the bells and whistles turned up on PC.

Profchaos499d ago

That's an apple to oranges comparison though.
Windows 11 requires 4gb of ram alone nowadays and runs like garbage with anything under 16 from my experience.

You also have the overhead of other background tasks scheduled processes on demand AV scans etc.

In comparison a console has a minimal OS with one purpose run games and get out of the way when the user is playing games in terms of background resource utilisation the ps5 uses 512mb dedicated to the os in background mode.

They are not the same looking at consoles as a benchmark for ram isn't technically accurate

Hofstaderman499d ago (Edited 499d ago )

Simple: optimised for the console.

LordoftheCritics498d ago (Edited 498d ago )

My assumption is that these games will store entire map data on the ram to avoid issues with PC gamer's not owning the fast console ssd's.

PC gamers are beginning to adapt to all the faster SSD and GPU's but this safeties the larger population.
Just my guess.

It's the 3070 at 30fps that is extremely concerning. That thing is a beast so either the game is going to be MASSIVE in scale or a massive turd.

"Forspoken PC Requirements Confirm That RAM Specs Are Going Up"

I smell Forspoken will be unoptimized crap on PC.

Hofstaderman499d ago

And Square seldom releases patches. DLC, yes…

Eonjay499d ago

I mean I think it will be fine with AMD behind this so hard. And keep in mind the 32 is only for max settings. These specs are for native res too. I doubt FSR will be as demanding at all. I think we should get some good results.

Sonic1881499d ago

I'm glad I have 64GB of ram. Don't have to worry about that this generation

deleted499d ago (Edited 499d ago )

Yea, I just put in an extra 64gb for a total of 80gb DDR5-4800 2 weeks ago. That is absolutely overkill though, and I didn't do it for gaming. I work professionally in Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender, etc where 64gb+ is recommended for working with multiple very large files at once.

It's nice not having to worry about ram with gaming, but it's absolutely not necessary if that's your only purpose.

I don't see any reason Forspoken should recommend 32gb, other than it's poorly optimized. There are plenty of other demanding games that get by just fine w 16gb.

**But I do agree it's nice not to have to worry.

lonewolf10499d ago

32GB for 4k plus gaming, to be expected now, 24GB at recommended, that has always seemed odd to me I like to keep RAM matched in all ways.

Sano24499d ago

Triple channel memory perhaps? Three matching sticks of 8GB

lonewolf10499d ago

Thanks, but I know what it is, Intel only, but to specify 24GB as recommended is odd. It is my OCD on seeing variance from 8 to 16 to 32 ranges.

Mr Logic499d ago

No such thing as triple channel memory. If you have 3 sticks they're running either single channel or flex mode.

mkis007499d ago

Mr logic

I dunno if you just meant anymore, but there was triple channel at one point..I had it.

ActualEngineer499d ago (Edited 499d ago )

@Mr logic, modern high end CPUs use quad and even octa-channel ram. If you look at the EPIC and threadripper CPUs, they are quad channel and also the thread ripper PRO are octa-channel. Some Xeons are quad channel aswell as the top of the line intel CPUs up to the 10th gen.

Also If you study computer science, in theory you can create as many channels you want if your approach is systemic and passes over to the CPU and bridge design.

FinalFantasyFanatic499d ago

That just screams optimized to me, will probably be a bad PC port, Square-Enix has a history of bad PC ports.

FinalFantasyFanatic498d ago

I just realized I made a spelling mistake, for anyone who couldn't realize, "optimized" was meant to be "un-optimized".
