10 Years On, Was Ninja Theory's DmC Really That Bad?

NInja Theory's DmC isn't as well loved as other Devil May Cry games, but 10 years after its release, does it hold up?

Not to me. I enjoyed it immensely.

Elda467d ago

How folks are downvoting the fact that you enjoyed something is ridiculous.

DarXyde467d ago (Edited 467d ago )

I didn't enjoy it much. I played it when it was available on Plus back in the day and I think the problem was that I viewed it as a bizarre take on Devil May Cry. As its own game, it's probably easier to like and appreciate, but I struggled to make that distinction. Even then, I really was not a fan of the weapons or cinematic 30fps for an action game. Dialogue was a bit too try hard for me too. Most of all, I really didn't like the controls.

There's something about Ninja Theory games where they look interesting, I give them a try, and they're not for me. Heavenly Sword, Enslaved, DmC, and even Hellblade (though I felt Hell blade was the best of them). If you guys enjoyed it, I'm happy for you and I wish I could too, honestly. I know a decent amount of people who at least liked it, but it really wasn't for me.

Ah well.

@Elda it's a disagree... if they didn't enjoy it, they downvote.
Why does everyone take downvoting as something personal. lol

jambola468d ago

I don't think the problem was weather or not it was bad
just like making resident evil actiony and not scary, not bad, just clearly not understanding your audience

Knushwood Butt468d ago

I quite liked it actually.

Always wanted to get the PS4 version but never got around to it.

Sciurus_vulgaris468d ago

I enjoyed it. However, it’s the only Devil May Cry game I have ever fully played through.

-Foxtrot468d ago

Pretty much and I like to think with DMC5 out people can see how bad it was in comparison.

coolbeans468d ago

You don't even have to leap that far ahead. When I picked up the Definitive Edition (on sale), I was surprised to see some of the gameplay tweaks that weren't there for the DmC OG. Look at what DMC4 could pull at 60fps compared to DmC at 30fps. Still a stunning comparison on the base hardware.

Nerdmaster467d ago

I finished DmC, but did't feel compelled to play DMC5 for more than a couple of hours. DMC5 is still in my "I should try to finish it someday" list, but I kind of always forget it exists...

mgszelda1467d ago

But 5 was also predictable and its finale felt so similar to 3.

DmC Devil May Cry sequel possible, according to Capcom

A DMC Devil May Cry sequel could be possible according to the producer for Devil May Cry 5. However, Ninja Theory would need to be involved before it could happen.

How’d Capcom even get Ninja Theory to make a sequel when they’re now owned by Microsoft?

Why would Capcom even want a sequel considering that it didn’t move a lot of units commercially? You could take that effort and make another sequel for another franchise

MadLad1810d ago

Make a deal with MS and maybe make the reboot a console exclusive? Be a good grab for MS, and relieves the financial stress of releasing a less popular take on a series, while keeping the series proper multi-plat.

shuvam091810d ago (Edited 1810d ago )

Not happening...
Not after the disaster that was Dead Rising 3 & 4...
No more western devs for major Capcom IPs...

shuvam091810d ago

That's an indirect way of saying it won't happen...

SoulWarrior1810d ago

Seems a bit redundant now with the vastly superior DMC5 already out and having performed well.

FernDiggidy1810d ago

some people can enjoy both. It's ok.

pietro12121810d ago

I did. Heck, DmC is one of my favorite Devil May Cry titles. (Dmc5, 3, DmC, 4, 1) 2 doesn't make the cut. Haha

DangerousDAN1809d ago

What a weird thought, eh?

solideagle1810d ago

didn't DMC5 exceeded Capcom's expectations? I thought they would stick with DMC 6 + Dante.

I wonder if they release DMC5:Special Edition with Lady/Trish playable

DangerousDAN1810d ago

They most likely will stick with it. Ninja Theory would be developing the DmC sequel if it happens. Capcom's own devs will handle the original timeline.

AK911810d ago

Why? The game was the least selling entry in the DMC franchise hell even 2 sold more than it. Just stick with the OG formula not the edgelord Donte and the atrocious combat.

3 is overrated and the first is severely underrated.

Redrex70001875d ago

3 did have the first fully realize game play
1 was a prototype of a resident evil game
change into a hack an slash so it make sense its
would not be as good
