Resident Evil 6 Deserves More Credit

DualShockers Writes "Resident Evil 6 is a damn good game. That shouldn’t be a controversial statement, but there’s probably already a growing mass of people shaking their heads at the notion. It’s almost a meme at this point how Resident Evil 6 has to be the WORST."

It really doesn't

It's awful and almost killed the series

Back in Capcoms arrogant "we know what you want better than you" days

babadivad514d ago

How did it kill the series? The game was massively successful.

darthv72514d ago

With as much as you are trying to defend this... you must have wrote it.

In all seriousness, I cant get passed the cover image and how it looks like a giraffe getting a mouth hug. Once you see it, it cant be unseen.

jambola514d ago

him "almost killed the series"
you "how did it kill the series?"
see the problem here? where you were mistaken?

either way it clearly had a negative impact, otherwise they wouldn't have rebooted so hard

babadivad514d ago

@Jambola

You said nothing and refuted nothing.

RE6 was a massive success. RE3 was a massive success, they stull changed things up for RE4.

RE10 will likely be different from RE7, 8, and 9. It's expected at this point for the series to refresh.

warriorcase514d ago

It sold well based off the name alone and strong legacy alone. The reception was more that it was not good and went too far from the path. If Capcom didn't agree then we would of had a direct sequel in the same vein but never did.
Hats off to Capcom though. They read the room and pivoted when needed.

jambola514d ago

actually i said

him "almost killed the series"
you "how did it kill the series?"
see the problem here? where you were mistaken?

either way it clearly had a negative impact, otherwise they wouldn't have rebooted so hard

can you not see the screen?

I also pointed out how you replied to something he didn't say

KyRo514d ago

There have been a lot of games that have sold well that aren't as good as a previous installment or games based on previous games the developers may have made.

Cyberpunk, Fallout 4, (people should have been calling out this studio way before F76, every games they make is a mess) Resident Evil 6 and Read Dead 2 all being massive commercial successes but we're very divisive amongst it's player base.

My brother and I played it Co-op knowing it was bad and we laughed the whole way through. Good meme game, that's all.

isarai515d ago

No it doesnt, is it a solid game? Sure! But it is not a resident evil game. Giving this game credit is just asking for Capcom to mismanage the series again. Lets not do that by continuing to say RE6 was the worst RE game by far.

babadivad514d ago

If RE6 isn't resistant evil, neither is RE4 and 5.

Eidolon514d ago (Edited 514d ago )

Agreed I guess?
RE4 was showing some arcadiness and less horror feel than the previous games, they went even harder with that on 5 and 6. RE4 was amazing, but I don't think it was on the same level of survival horror as the originals, sorry.

babadivad514d ago

@Eidolon

RE4 wasn't "survival horror" at all. It was a complete paradigm shift to an action game. RE 5/6 just followed in it's footsteps.

RE4 was a great game for the time but has definitely been over rated as time has gone on. There's definitely a bit of rose tinted glasses going on when people look back at this one.

Orchard515d ago

Nope. 5 and 6 can happily be forgotten about.

Those were some dark days all-up for Capcom. Fortunately, they finally seems to be back on track.

thesoftware730514d ago

5 was awesome...my brother and I played the game on every difficulty and best it, on professional its nuts.

We still play Mercs mode till day! It's absolutely the best Merc mode in any RE game.

Nacho_Z514d ago

Yeah 5 was a good game, fun in either co-op or solo. The series needed the reboot 7 gave it but 5 was a solid entry.

jambola514d ago

I'm often a bit of a contrarian with games
I love resident evil 5, I love ff13
but with this, even I can't
I don't think it's an absolutely unplayably bad game or anything, I mean i finished it
but I think it get's as much credit as it deserves

JEECE514d ago (Edited 514d ago )

Yeah it has become fashionable in hindsight to lump RE5 with RE6, but at the time RE5 came out it felt like they were just expanding on RE4, which everyone fawned all over. RE6 really just felt like a more generic third person shooter though with a few signature RE systems.

Yeah I figured it would be ordered like this. For me Leons best game was his debut. RE2.

There Will Never Be Another Resident Evil 6 (And That Sucks)

A rough gem that may never get the proper treatment it deserves.

Terry_B435d ago

^^ I don't want what the author was smoking.

-Foxtrot435d ago

It’s this thing where after enough time people start coming out to defend bad games for some strange reason

I mean hey if you liked it good for you but it was a f****** awful RE game.

Capcom are finally back on track and now people are crying about their shitty mistakes? No thanks.

RpgSama433d ago

I'd take a full blown remake of RE6 based around a GREATLY expanded Leon part and make it even more horror.

That might be something I would be interested in, do not care about any of the other parts of that game.

MadLad433d ago

I couldn't even get through the demo.
Years later I bought it for $3 for PC. I played about 5 minutes into it and uninstalled it.

babadivad433d ago (Edited 433d ago )

RE6 was better than 5. RE6 just took the series to the conclusion that started with 4.

RE4 was the inaugural title in the action game trilogy.

RE9 will be the likely end of the first person psychological thriller trilogy.

They'll switch it up for RE10 or more likely titled RE-X.

hotnickles433d ago

5 is vastly better than 6 imo

TheEnigma313433d ago

RE5 is way better than 6. Stop lying to yourself

FallenAngel1984435d ago (Edited 435d ago )

“But all this is solely with respect to how fans felt back in 2013 when Resident Evil 6 had just been released. The game resulted in the series getting indefinitely killed off until 5 years later when we got Resident Evil 7 and balance was restored yet again. ”

1.) Resident Evil 6 came out in 2012, not 2013

2.) A series getting killed off means no titles at all released in a time period. Silent Hill, Dead Space, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve & Siren fans would love to see how you can say RE was on the same level of dormancy. In that 5 year time period we had a number of remasters that kept the series alive and kicking. RE1 02ms remaster even broke sales records during the period between RE6 and RE7.

3. Way to disrespect Resident Evil: Revelations 2. It was released during that RE6-RE7 period. It along with its predecessor were mainline titles that kept the horror roots of the series alive in comparison to RE5 and RE6. RE: R1 in particular even introduced the ability to walk and shoot into the series, a feature we can all be grateful for that in modern RE titles. The director RE: R1 later went on to direct RE7 and the director of RE: R2 later went to to direct the RE2 & RE4 remakes.

Immagaiden434d ago (Edited 434d ago )

“Resident Evil 6 is often maligned as the worst entry in the Resident Evil series and is cited as the cause behind the long death of the franchise.”

Titles in the Resident Evil series such as Survivor, Gaiden, Dead Aim, Outbreak, Operation Raccoon City, Umbrella Corps, & Resistance we’re received far worse than RE6.

And death of the franchise?

RE6 was still one of the most commercially successful games in the series, guaranteeing the franchise’s future. Compare how underwhelming sales of Dead Space 3, Silent Hill: Downpour. Alone in the Dark: Illumination, Dino Crisis 3, Fatal Frame: Maiden in Black Water, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2, and Metroid: Other M which caused their respective series to go into a long period of dormancy without any rereleases to even keep activity up.

RE however still had a significant number of titles released and rereleased after RE6. Not only that but development for RE7 started a short time after its predecessor came out, meaning there was never a development time that the series could be considered dead. There hasn’t been a single year that Capcom stopped either developing, releasing, or rereleasing Resident Evil games. Let’s not act like the 5 year period between RE6 and RE7 is such a longer time compared to the 4 year period between RE4 and RE5 as well as RE7 and RE8. We can pretty much expect RE9 in either 2025 or 2026, and you can be certain that Capcom will still release other RE tiles leading up to it

TheEnigma313433d ago (Edited 433d ago )

Man go some where with this. Only a few like this game. Why would they remake a garbage game no one likes risking money because it won't sell? RE 6 is dumpster drippings, sorry.

MIDGETonSTILTS17433d ago

It wasn’t that good, even if you enjoyed it like me.
