Kojima Productions Will Not Work On Third-Party IPs

Hideo Kojima has a rule for Kojima Productions that fans don't like: He'll only work on first-party IPs that he creates himself.

Orchard517d ago

Well he’s right - why would he take on 3rd party IP contract work when he can create new IPs himself?

Taking on outsourced work is beneath him.

gangsta_red517d ago

Well we saw what he did with Silent Hill. I'm not the biggest Kojima fan but I think it would be cool to see his takes on other established IPs.

Orchard517d ago

I’d like to see him take on new genres and change them up a lot.

That’s why im pretty excited for Overdose - I think he’ll really shake up the survival horror genre and create something really interesting.

Army_of_Darkness516d ago

@gangsta_red

I don't understand your logic... If you are not really a fan of his work, why would you even care on his take towards an established ip?? Wouldn't you be more concerned if anything?

gangsta_red516d ago

@Army of Darkness

Because I saw what he did with PT and that was very impressive. Even though I said I'm not the biggest fan doesn't mean I don't think he has talent.

-Foxtrot517d ago (Edited 517d ago )

I don't know after P.T it would be nice to see him revive forgotten franchises.

I mean he called it Silent Hills, plural, so TECHNICALLY it was his game in a really silly way I guess ha.

Eonjay517d ago

Isn't Death Stranding owned by Sony?

Nitrowolf2517d ago (Edited 517d ago )

Yes but that’s not what he’s saying, basically he only wants to work on IPs he creates

I don’t think this rules out him working on MGS since it was a game he made, but on the hand it’s not one Kojima production did

Orchard517d ago

It is, but Kojima crafted it. What he’s saying is he doesn’t want to work on TLOU 3 (just using that as an example).

Presumably Kojima withheld some rights on DS too though - there’s no way Sony said “let’s go release this on Game Pass with Xbox achievements etc”.

DarXyde516d ago

Isn't that how Demon's Souls and Bloodborne (arguably the best titles in the Soulborne games) were created?

If a studio comes to another capable studio with a vision, I don't see why that's beneath anyone.

He'll probably change his tune if/when KojiPro gets big enough.

isarai517d ago

And just like that, all the silent hill rumors are dead, not that i thought he would ever work with Konami again, but still, there were so many people hanging onto that rumor.

Orchard517d ago

Heck, that rumor should’ve been dead months ago with the SH showcase + announcement of other studios.

Hopefully Overdose is good - I’m expecting it to be close to his original vision for SH.

Rimeskeem517d ago

He wants absolute control so of course?

mastershredder517d ago

Has no issues working as an unofficial outsource-e on a project that is not his while he pockets dat Konami Caaaaaaaash (while he was be being paid to do something else). Yeah, his outsourcing stance only goes so far. Keeping it in the studio is the way it should be, but he's no hero nor the example.

porkChop517d ago

What project is he doing unofficial outsourcing on?

Ubisoft say AC Shadows protagonists will be "romantically attracted to different types of people"

Ubisoft recently shared more details about Assassin's Creed Shadows protagonists, confirming that both of them will romantically attract and be attracted to different types of people.

Hugodastrevas19h ago

That should please everyone I'm sure...

RpgSama5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Feudal Japan DEI LGBTQ+ Samurai, sounds very accurate for the time period. Surely a decision made only with historical accuracy in mind.

Crows905h ago

Or even modern day accuracy.....

Lexreborn25h ago

You have no idea what you are talking about, bet you didn’t know nobunaga was bi-sexual. Or ran maru his is often depicted as androgynous was a “beautiful boy”.

So yeah, feudal Japan had tons of lgbtq and kawaii enough… A BLACK SAMURAI! All without the need of offending a Caucasian because the world is diverse.

VenomUK3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

This story has cracked me up so much! Bravo Ubisoft, bravo! 🤣. So last week everyone was upset that in the long-awaited first Assassin’s Creed: Japan game the protagonist is black. But NOW he is also LGBTQ+ ! It’s like the Ubisoft creative team sat around a table and said “How can we best impress our Kotaku/IGN/Polygon friends and antagonise gamers? Let’s make it woke x 100!’ And then they all silent clapped!

Just you wait until the Star Wars: Outlaws details come out, there better not be anybody complaining about Kay Vess’ dating preferences and the gay droid armies.

Christopher3h ago

It actually is.

Japanese were very Greek in their sexual experiences.

lodossrage3h ago

Lexreborn2 is right

Go read up on Japan's feudal era homosexuality and bisexuality was a very common thing in that time.

I just have to laugh because the same people complaining about this are the same ones crying about wanting "historical accuracy". When it's clear most of the whiners don't even know history themselves.

Christopher2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Facts don't care about downvotes, btw. You either claim to understand historical accuracy or you just admit you don't like the stuff people did throughout history.

Geezus, just make a good game… holy sh*t this is becoming insufferable.

Crows905h ago

Oh yeah!!!! What about being inclusive???

I'm sorry
..please replace the word inclusive with stupid.

notachance1h ago

If they truly aimed for inclusivity they’d make the protagonist an Ainu tribe, this is just Ubisoft getting comfy with Sweet Baby Inc as always.

Hofstaderman3h ago

You asking UbiSoft to make a good game? This is not 2002.

Hofstaderman3h ago

I take my hat off to you good sir. Brilliant.

Laskin3h ago

Thanks… I was originally going to write Samu-Bi but then I realized it was right there already so it works better

darthv725h ago

Is that genuinely a selling point for people?

RpgSama5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

They sure as hell want to see if it is, time and time and time again.

VincentVanBro4h ago

You have to understand they’re incapable of writing a good story so this is the best they could come up with

Unannounced Valve 6v6 Shooter MOBA Footage Leaked

ESTNN writes: "A leak for Valve's 6v6 3rd-person shooter MOBA has supposedly been released ahead of time. And if the reports are true, fans of the genre have much to be excited for."

XiNatsuDragnel1d 13h ago

Deadlock looks like bioshock and Moba had babies

JunonZanon5h ago

Valve really cannot count to 3.

Number1TailzFan3h ago

They should've had a new L4D like 10 years ago, it can be expanded upon a lot more but they just left it collecting dust.. it was a good game for its time but L4D2 doesn't have nearly enough content these days to keep players engaged, and it needs a serious graphics upgrade

mastershredder2h ago

Nice bend at the knee there Gabe. Seriously? A quirky character arena shooter? This late into the me-too-shooter market? I thought you guys were so much better than that crap. Gabe must need a bigger yacht.

Atari has acquired the Intellivision brand, ending the first ever console war

Wow.... two of my earliest gaming platforms. All they need is Coleco to round things out.

This is like Nintendo buying SEGA.

OtterX9h ago

YES! Colecovision was my start! I came to know Mario there in Donkey Kong before the NES was even a thing. :)

Golfcoachh6h ago

Yes such fond memories. My first was the odyssey, but I really started gaming on my colecovision. Had atari and intelivision but coleco was by far the best of the bunch to me.

Kratos_Kart20076h ago

Yes...a gamer from my era...LMAO

Coleco was good...LOL

shinoff218334m ago

Mine was atari. You guys go back further then me even

anast11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Good piece of history here.

edit: I wanted to read it but the cookies pop up is stopping me.

badboyz0910h ago

This was just before my time. I do remember my mom's friend having one all dusty in her apartment back in the day.

People forget that console wars are part of the history of this industry. The console wars were started by competitive companies all the way back then and continued through Sega vs Nintendo, Jaguar/3DO/NeonGeo, and PlayStation vs Nintendo and Xbox.

These companies are across oceans and competing for the same business. These companies created the console wars, not crazy fanboys.

anast8h ago

Console wars are fun. It's fun to be a fanboy too. I don't get what's wrong with any of this as entertainment.

darthv728h ago

Young kid school yard banter was fun. 30-40+ year olds still doing it is just disturbing. Many my age (50+) grew out of that a long time ago. We may still have our preferences, but we also embrace a more central position because there is a lot to enjoy on a wide range of genres and systems.

You'll understand one day and then things will forever change.

shinoff218332m ago(Edited 30m ago)

Atari to nes. Mario bros hooked me

Petebloodyonion5h ago

The only thing back then was that the game would still appear on competing platforms.
Remember the Coleco Vision could play Atari2600 games via an Expansion modude.

jznrpg10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

I had both. Snafu on Intellivision was addicting as hell. Also had Colecovision which had Time Pilot. Combat was probably my favorite Atari game and both Atari and Intellivision had similar games like Pitfall and Jungle Hunt. It’s been so long I don’t really remember which game I liked bettter out of those but I did play my Intellivision a bit more than Atari though I’m not sure why besides Snafu. That was 40+ years ago damn I’m old lol

Dagexon8h ago

Ahh you're making me all nostalgic! Not old enough to have played these on original hardware but my first console was a bootleg console from Costco that had a bunch of intellivision and atari games. Then had a lot of fun with intellivision and atari collections on ps1 and 2.
Snafu was one of my favourite games and me and my partner still occasionally play it to this day
