From GI.biz: "Free-to-play multiplayer shooter Scavengers will be shut down at the end of the year.
In a post on the title's website, Improbable said it will close Scavengers' servers on December 16, 2022, as it's seen a "decline in the playerbase."
"Whilst we explored many options to reinvigorate server population while the game is in early access, it became clear that it was unsustainable to continue development and live service," the message read. "We’re all proud of what we accomplished, and are grateful to every player who took the time to play, even if it was just for a short while."
Remembering the games that may have flown under the radar this year.
From The Loadout "Scavengers has been gestating ever since it launched into open beta earlier this year, and for the most part it has intrigued me with its PvPvE twist on the battle royale genre. However, with countless other releases and a constant flurry of live-service seasons, I have never hopped in to see what Midwinter Entertainment’s game offered. With Scavengers Season One, titled Winter’s Fury, that will change.
Launching on September 15, Winter’s Fury is the first fully-fledged season for Scavengers after its Season 0 launch earlier in the summer. It brings with it the first paid battle pass and a brand new playable character, Rin. The Loadout was invited to get an early hands-on with Rin and Winter’s Fury, and it’s safe to say that I found myself immediately drawn into Scavengers’ unique, engaging, cat-and-mouse battle royale gameplay."
Players will be able to join the Scavengers ScavLab event on May 29 at 7pm BST / 8pm CET / 11am PT by opening Scavengers and accessing the ScavLab mode from the lobby.
I've never heard of it, and I live and breathe video games. The market is just too oversaturated for these types of f2p games.
*edit - of the 5 suggested articles on Scavengers listed underneath this one, none of them had a single comment on them. Even more, it was featured on "The Games You Forgot Released in 2021", so I'm obviously not alone on this!
