They aren’t wrong in some of their criticism, but a lot of it comes in the advertising. They’re right to judge the thing as bulked-out dlc because it was meant to be dlc. They reviewer, though entitled to be annoyed at the studio’s frugal attempt to make a sequel, shouldn’t have been surprised.

It’s like criticising BVS for being dark. The trailers were dark. If you didn’t like it dark, then sure, rant away… but you were warned, so make sure you don’t write the criticism as though it was something you were shocked to hear.

Many said the same thing about HZ: Forbidden West, that it was meant to be DLC, which it was NOT meant to be whatsoever. Buddy, but if it would have been, that was some of the absolute best DLC I’ve ever played! Heck, better than many fully fleshed out games, with all the improvements it had over Zero Dawn.

I don’t know what some people are expecting from these sequels, SSM to revolutionize the gameplay, AGAIN from 2018?? They had a formula that worked, hit hard, flowed beautifully, with very few problems. So, they go in there, improve on what worked, add things in there, new combos, attacks, runes etc, while fixing where they missed the mark. It’s really unrealistic to think the gameplay was going to be another big leap, because it doesn’t need to be, it already works so so well. And based on reviews (I’ve been away recently) but heard a few, SSM have taken fans criticism about boss fights and cranked that up, but also made those fights meaningful, yet awesome.

Ragnarok, much like HZFW improves on everything it’s predecessors fell a bit short on (which wasn’t much in either game) and now they’ve been improved, polished and shined to look and play better than ever, offering gamers an amazing and fun experience.

If that’s not enough for you, the known quality and quantity on offer with 95% of Sony’s first party studios games which is unmatched, go elsewhere, game and enjoy Microsoft, Nintendo and the offerings on PC.

Found a flaw in that you either have a bad memory or can’t read. Ragnarok was pitched as DLC. You’ve probably never had to pitch anything before (I have) but it takes time. And Ragnarok was pitched while they were developing it on the ps4.

The game is exactly as I say it is. If you have an issue with it being pitched as dlc, that’s not my fault. But make sure you read up on game lifecycles and stop being a child.

As a critic you’re supposed to be a subject matter expert, that way when you criticize something there’s a basis for what you are criticizing things on, and generally speaking, it’s typically based on juxtaposition of games that have pushed the genre forward or at the very least have design elements that “work”. Things that everyone can recognize more as fact versus opinion. Such as third person controls that incorporated over-the-shoulder fps like aiming being “better” and more “intuitive” than third person shooting games before it. I mean… I feel that’s more fact than opinion, right?

I can say God of War Ragnarok gets a 1/10 because I found it boring and too similar to the original, but I don’t think that’s a valid or even fair criticism especially given the previous game’s reviews.

A healthy skepticism works both ways. Given the overwhelming praise it has been receiving, safe to say this is a title that will be well enjoyed by the public. A score like this is what we call an outlier, and it happens for any number of reasons. I do a lot of data analysis in my daily work, and outliers are typically investigated or are relegated to a footnote when the mean gets skewed (alternatively, if it had a larger impact, you report the median to control for variance. I digress). Since this is not an error in reporting (clearly intentional), now we get to the explanation of such a score.

Is the reviewer incompatible? No, they seemed to like the first game.

Is this a principled reviewer? I don't know. You would need to look at their other reviews of games and sequels with very similar designs and see if they carry the same weighting.

Is there a cultural undertone here? Maybe. This type of game may not be all the rage with IGN Korea.

Is this person fishing for clicks? Looking at the state of journalism as a whole in the world, very likely. Even if you grant them the benefit of the doubt here and they're being honest, statistically, their views are at odds with virtually everyone else's, therefore it is not going to be indicative of the experience most people have with it. And even if people share some of those complaints, it is very unlikely that it will detract from the experience to the point that regular people are willing to give it a 6/10.

I stopped going on their page during the PS3 era when I realized that simply by clicking on their xbox content and comparing them to PlayStation content page, you could see a very stark difference in how they reviewed and talked about Sony products vs. MS ones.

With anything MS, they acted like fans, with Sony products all of a sudden each one of them became a tech critic. It was bad, I mean BAD. So I just stopped using their site once I realized that their intent was to rain on my prade when I was excited about some upcoming game/device.

God of War has always bored me just like GTA so I have no real opinion of this. GOTY contenders for me would be Corpse Factory, Needy Girl Overdose, AI: The Somnium Files - Nirvana Initiative, Loopers, Chaos;Head Noah and the upcoming Witch on the Holy Night.

Type-Moon fans would, lol. They've been waiting decades for Nasu to finally localize one of his VN's in English. Would have preferred the Tsukihime Remake but will take the Remake of Witch on the Holy Night either way. Hopefully this paves the way for Tsukihime to get localized. It actually makes more sense because Witch on the Holy Night is a prequel to Tsukihime.

If he went with that mentality with Forza Horizon 5 it would get 4.5/10 at best.
Because its more of the same with different map and it got sillier compared to last game.
He's crazy to think for a game this big its a DLC and it took over 4 years to make, logic certainly wasn't his strongest point.
It always this downer type who got into the game came with an agenda expect something unrealistic then bitching about it.
With people like him are one of the reasons why we can't have nice things, too darn negative to appreciate quality when it smacked in their faces.
