The God of War Ragnarok team's reaction to their reviews is adorable

From Games Radar: "The God of War Ragnarok review embargo dropped yesterday, and the game's developers have a lot of feelings about the critical acclaim they've received.

At time of writing, God of War Ragnarok is sitting at a Metacritic(opens in new tab) score of 94. Dozens of perfect scores have helped it to joint-sixth place in this year's rankings behind only three other games. Elden Ring on PS5 and Xbox Series X are in joint first alongside the Portal Companion Collection on Switch, all on 96, while Persona 5 Royal on PC and Xbox Series X follow up on 95. At 94, Ragnarok sits in with the Switch port of Persona 5 Royal, and Elden Ring on PC.

It's an undeniably impressive achievement, and the devs are revelling in it. Writer Aly Samson said she was "so emotional," and that her work on the game "challenged me & helped me grow as a writer & a person." Gameplay animator Euna Park, who has moved on from Sony Santa Monica since working on Ragnarok, simply asked(opens in new tab) "How am I supposed to get any work done today after this?" Senior gameplay programmer Sam Handrick(opens in new tab) noted the amount of time the developers had spent on the game "trying to make something special," but that "you get so close to it that you never truly know if it's everything you wanted it to be until others try it. So to see reviews today - it's really special.""

Well deserved. You guys enjoy your moment for a bit - you've certainly earned it.

crazyCoconuts550d ago

It's amazing to me how a handful of companies (or less?) in the industry can continue to deliver amazing games so consistently while so many others never release even one game that's in the same class. It must be so hard to do, yet these guys do it again and again somehow.

Proper head of studio, and game directors and managers e.g. creative director, technical director, design director, managing producer.

I bet you really love the color blue huh.....

They deserve every bit of praise for this absolute master piece.

cant wait to play with the adorable Kratos. :D

DeathTouch550d ago

Angrboda is not black. Go woke, go broke. /s

Crows90550d ago

Huh? They didn't go woke simply by changing the lore a bit. It's quite a bit changed already. They only go woke if they implement woke writing/bad writing. Not the case here I'm sure.

DeathTouch550d ago (Edited 550d ago )

I know. It's sarcasm. And if you think people don't consider this woke, you missed this: https://n4g.com/news/244177...

Take a spin on the comments and try not to pluck your eyes out.
Good luck.

All the success to SM, though. And good for them for not caving in to bigots and keeping their vision.

I have a feeling this will pop up again. lol

Crows90550d ago (Edited 550d ago )

Thanks for the link. It was enjoyable. But it stands to reason in an age full of tokenism for there to be some concern. But again...the concern of woke is directly linked to poor writing and slapped on effects. Adding a black character doesn't make a game better or more diverse.

Diversity in skin color is racist. Diversity in thought regardless of skin is the way to go. Which again boils down to the writing. Lots of comments in that link express that concern and in extremely superficial level it can sound like racism in this period of time where your offensive if you dress up as a black superhero while being white.

DeathTouch550d ago

Agreed. She is a great black character, kudos for SM.

Fimbulwinter also happens when Loki is an adult. And he wasn’t part Greek god. And Mimir is an Aesir god, not some type of fae.
The lore is changed in a BUNCH of ways. But THATS what you want to complain about?

“ It's a great excuse to jump back into the fray with videogame’s second favorite Spartan.”

So you’re saying that the game Hades and its star character, never played it, are bigger more well known and liked than Kratos and the God of War series?

Armyofdarkness120d ago (Edited 120d ago )

He obviously means Kassandra, right?

Gamehard120d ago

I don't think the MC from Hades is a spartan though. Not 100% sure, but yeah I don't know of any other spartan game character that's more popular than Kratos.

Psychonaut85120d ago

Im guessing he’s speaking more broadly and is referring to Master Chief as the most popular “Spartan”

Abnor_Mal120d ago (Edited 120d ago )

That’s likely who it is, I don’t if Master Chief can be considered a “true” Spartan like Kratos lol.

Master Chief Spartan label is just a rank given in the Halo military, sorry not a Halo gamer so I have no clue what their army is called in the game.

But is Master Chief really more popular as a Spartan, interesting question.
