Silent Hill 2 Remake Screenshots, Official Description, PC Requirements Revealed via Steam Page

Konami has kicked off the Silent Hill 2 remake Steam page that houses new screenshots, official description and PC requirements.

Yeah, seeing these screen shots just confirm what I felt already. I'm not impressed at all. Look at the 2nd screen shot with James from the back striking that monster with the wooden club. His Jacket doesn't fold, he looks like a square... A keen eye can see things like that and know that artistically the developers just don't have it. Notice how in a quality remake like Resident Evil 2, they modernized the outfits of Leon and Claire while still keeping the vibe of the original. Here it's just a copy, because again it's just imitation.

Also, I just hate that James model, he looks like some whiny old dad. The original James Sunderland was a cool guy.

The best thing that was shown at this showcase was Silent Hill f, didn't seem to be imitating anything, looks like a fresh take on Silent Hill with some sorta creepy plague where beautiful flowers infect you and rot you away or something. Plus it had a little fan service in my opinion which is typical of Japanese games. I'm not saying it's going to be great and I doubt it will be one of my top favorites but at least it's a new Silent Hill game that's on my radar.

"...he looks like some whiny old dad. The original James Sunderland was a cool guy."

Positive he was whiny in the original also. James was cool, I guess, but I don't really see how cool he was.

It seems to be a remake but hitting all the beats of the original and not straying to far from source material, i'm curious to see where it goes.

excaliburps583d ago

Same. Not going to pass verdict on some screenshots until we've played it. I mean the combat being overhauled is the big one. I don't remember SH combat being very memorable to be honest.

CrimsonWing69583d ago

I’m sorry, but how is a jacket like that supposed to fold? Aren’t they more stiff and insulated? I know it’s not a ski jacket, but those things don’t “fold” with a swing.

Also, what is there to modernize about James’ clothes?

Now, in comparison to the original James design this design looks way off, but my god James was never a “cool guy” and if you think he was cool I question everything now.

jznrpg583d ago

If the folding of a jacket is the biggest issue I don’t really care

darren_poolies583d ago

Dude you don't have to comment on every article about Silent Hill. We get it, you're not impressed by the remake.

"The original James Sunderland was a cool guy."

I seriously question whether you understood or even played SH2 at all if that's genuinely what you think.

goldwyncq583d ago

He must've confused James with Leon from RE2.

Neonridr582d ago

2/10, not enough fabric folding.

Gatsu582d ago (Edited 582d ago )

Some people can never be satisfied if you're complaining even about his jacket lmao.

It will probably be a 1 year or 6 month wait til it comes to PC. ME? I'm getting it day 1 on PS5. I refuse to wait just to get more frames and a couple extra graphical bells and whistles. And besides, I don't think my Intel Core i7 4790k 4Ghz, GTX1070 will cut it.

lonewolf10583d ago

I think those spec reqs might be placeholders, we will see, as said this is day 1 PC too.

SullysCigar583d ago

This is just the reveal. While I don't have high expectations of Blooper Team, this shouldn't be a particularly taxing remake, bearing in mind how highly regarded the original is.

Do some cool stuff with DualSense, tweak the clunky controls/combat, visuals and sound and we're done here. They can't mess up the story because it's already there.

I'm keeping an open mind and keen to see more!

CaptainHenry916583d ago (Edited 583d ago )

PC needs 16GB of RAM memory 🤔 is that a first?

Giblet_Head583d ago

That's for recommended, and no it's not a first.

LordoftheCritics583d ago

16 gb of ram has been the norm for years.

CaptainHenry916583d ago (Edited 583d ago )

For PC requirements most PC games don't need 16GB ram though. Most of the time it's under 10GB

Number1TailzFan583d ago

Fairly high(ish) GPU requirements for recommended, which at least should be honest for a decent 60fps and more if you have a more capable card.

Bogus!
Why would Sony do that and how would this benefit them?
1) It would piss off their media partners (IGN, Gamespot, Edge, etc.) since they would have to allocate resources fast to cover the event.
2) Risk of not having great coverage or proper coverage from the various source
3) It could give the impression that they are not confident in their own stuff.
4) They would miss the chance to hype the event losing viewers and losing free marketing time.

Again I'm calling it bogus unless it's a small showcase before the big one or because they want to announce that Hellbalde 2 is also coming on PS5.

SlothLordPootus11d ago

As far as I can remember, they typically give a week heads up for these sorts of things.

Lightning7711d ago

I was about to say Sony always gives a week in advance for their show.

VersusDMC11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Last year it was a weeks notice.

https://blog.playstation.co...

May 17th announcement for may 24th show.

VersusDMC11d ago

Nintendo always tweets that a direct is happening tomorrow but no one cares.

Sony gives a week or days of notice and we get anti sony type fake outrage like this.

But good luck trying trying to get some Sony hate going...

Petebloodyonion11d ago

You just mention it!
Sony gives a week in advance NOT just a couple of days.
So I fail to see what Sony's hate movement I'm trying to start when it's a basic business strategy to not piss off your partners (ask Sega).
And I doubt it's hate to ask how it would benefit Sony in doing so.

thesoftware73011d ago (Edited 11d ago )

@Versus
Huh? What?

Bro you really should relax, if what you read was some kinda negative against Sony.... seriously, is that what you got from the comments?

Bro, he was debunking the rumor, and gave perfectly good reasons why it would be unlikely, and your Nintendo Direct comparison is different, as this is supposed to be a BIG Sony showcase, not a surprise 20 min direct, and Sony 's pattern has been one week.

Slow down warmonger.

VersusDMC11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

@thesoftware730

"1) It would piss off their media partners (IGN, Gamespot, Edge, etc.) since they would have to allocate resources fast to cover the event."

That is implying Sony is preventing them from doing their job properly therefore negatively affecting their business...but i guess that's a reach in your mind?

And it's not like they need that many resources to cover the stream. They just need 3 people to react to the stream live and make some easy articles made up mostly of summaries of Sony provided press releases. They would have enough time to "prepare" if it was announced with one days notice.

Petebloodyonion11d ago

@Versus
" That is implying Sony is preventing them from doing their job properly therefore negatively affecting their business...but i guess that's a reach in your mind"

No, it simply implies that some media all over the world might (keyword MIGHT) not properly cover the event like having proper articles for each game announced, or having a proper preshow. maybe some popular YouTubers won't have time to prepare or simply your local newspaper doing an article on tech and game.

So why would Sony take a chance?
What benefit would that give them?

Petebloodyonion11d ago

Before I get tons of replies for Sony given a week in advance, my initial comments are related to the notion that the Show could happen this week as the title mentions.
Now to be fair the complete article mentions that Jeff said the Show could happen later in May giving time for Sony to give the normal 7-day notice.

Again not trying to start a negative thing here just thinking that it's bogus that Sony will have a show this week

notachance11d ago

Yeah as much as I’d like to hear what sony’s 1st parties have cooked, it’s not their style to shadow drop a showcase.

Still waiting for ghost of tsushima 2, I’m ready whenever man..

KwietStorm_BLM11d ago

You're assuming media outlets don't know about it.

gold_drake11d ago

i can tell you that no one cares if ign is pissed or not.

watching a livestream and writing stuff aint the world. many habe done that before your god ign.

fr0sty11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

As a former gaming journalist that covered Sony & Nintendo's E3 conferences 3 separate times and was flown out to multiple press events for THQ, Square, and EA, let me inform you of this thing called an "embargo" that journalists are put under... it's very possible that details of this event have been given to the gaming press, but they are not yet allowed to discuss it. In fact, that may be where our leaker got their info...

Petebloodyonion10d ago

Tks for sharing this info :) but let's be honest I doubt that Jeff Grubb would left in the dark due to his notoriety while the rest of Gamespot ppl are in the knowing.

Going in with no expectations but likely will see something that resonates with me.

FinalFantasyFanatic11d ago

I hope there's something impressive in there.

DeadlyFire11d ago

Nah they will announce it probably, but it won't happen right away soon though yes.
