Nintendo Launching Wii Video Service Next Year

The Wii will get its own video distribution service next year, according to Japan's Nikkei business daily newspaper. It will take a different approach than the ones Sony and Microsoft pursued on their respective consoles.

Well u could say that about the dix VOD as well. I would just rather buy the dvd/blu ray than "download" it. With all the installations on the ps3 u may not have room left anyway (LBP).

Theres that word again "Game", im pretty sure its a "Game" machine and not a "movie" machine. I can see why they are doing this however, with the amount of anime they watch at least.

u know whats real funny....how resistance 2 ONLY runs at 720p, while a game like mario cart is 480p.......WOW huge difference LOL. I mean all this crap about how much better the ps3 resloution is and one of there big titles doesnt even use 1080p. Now thats funny.

Man, I have really started to hate Nintendo. No wonder MY Wii and a lot of other's collects dust. The Wii can be fun and for what they have (meaning no 1080p HD) they can totally make it an awesome system. First off add a HDD. Who cares if stupid parents and whatever will be confused on if they need it or not. Hey Nintendo, you are still selling out, don't worry and don't get greedy.

After the HDD, revamp its crappy online (not games), but add some real channels, re-do the shop channel, extra. How about a NWE (New WII Experience)

And then...trials and demos for all WiiWare and VC games. Take the shop channel or whatever offline for 2 weeks to work on it.

Just those few "simple" things to get it up to where 360/PS3 is at. And I'm just talking when I turn it on! Then worry about your movies.

You really think people are going to want to buy more and more SD cards all the damned time? Those things are tiny and with all the kids that play these Wiis....do you really think they'll be perfectly kept track of? It's not like it's a HARD DRIVE we're talking about here...you couldn't really lose that very easily. An SD card, however...you lose that and POOF there goes whatever content you just had!

Kids are gonna be swiping their parents' SD cards from their cameras so they can download videos off the Wii, lol.

Again you do not need an HDD for on demand video. It is not a download then watch service but one that is streamed much like youtube and many other sites do. It really helps if you understand what is being discussed bub..It might also help to be an actual Wii owner and know they already offer video for games and such already without a HDD. you can watch youtube without an HDD. Same will apply to these videos. It is in Japan only and they have higher bandwidth then the most other countries.

They have made a totally awesome "game" console. But for downloading Virtual console games the HDD is small. But really after playing it for 2 years thats the only gripe i have with it. I mean at least i dont have to install my games to make them load faster. Right guys.

Thats a good idea, i mean they let u downlad demos for the DS. But if u played SUper smash brawl u would know they had a whole heap of demos of vc games within that game. But still for ALL titles would be nice too.

Nintendo is trying to progress into an area that is, IN MY OPINION, beyond or mostly irrelevant to the core audience they're trying to reach.

They need to focus on making more fantastic GAMES for the Wii instead of a shift in focus towards media.

The 360 and PS3 both have fairly balanced offerings of each, with steady growth in games and media content.

Thats a jacked up stereotype you got there, its like calling US porn central, or Fattyville. true they love anime, but thats not all everyone watches, and believe it or not their are some japanese Otaku who'd kill for this Wii service. Especially the ones who missed a few Death note or Keroro Gunsou episodes only to find them on the Wii. Heck PCs and Macs can take you online, but people still use wii to browse the net. (I do it cause I live close to a free wifi spot and my PC is under repair), so this will be a success.

Where are the awesome GAMES??? Why are they focusing on this diversion instead of trying to win back their true fans who are jumping ship left and right because they are having abandonment issues because Nintendo is purposely alienating them and focusing on casuals?

Nintendo is now just too little butter spread over too much bread. They have become thin and transparent, and they no longer hold any weight with any true Nintendo fans. That's how it is, and that's how it will continue to be, until they return to their true focus of bringing great, memorable titles consistently to their loyal fanbase.

The Wii game collection is good, could be better, but stil good.
HD isn't important. We are going to own 2009. Friend codes are only annoying when you have to type them in, its cool afterwards. Ratings don't matter or hype if a game is good its good. And Finally we believe there is no threat to the hardcore (so calked) from casual (as you call it) titles like wii fit and wii music. So We aren't worried about Big N. Only you outsiders looking in are. And chill on the name calling. No imbecile has my IQ level, if so, theres a lot of imbeciles around and almost no normal or smart people.
