Deathloop lands on Xbox next Tuesday (20th)

Deathloop is officially launching on Xbox and Game Pass next Tuesday.

The first-person single-player shooter, developed by Arkane Lyon, first released this time last year as a PlayStation 5 exclusive (as well as on PC).

The exclusivity raised eyebrows since the game's publisher, Bethesda Softworks, was acquired by Microsoft earlier that year.

And then there were crickets…

Flawlessmic607d ago

I bought it on ps5 its a great game! It was very cool putting it all together to get the info, weapons skills needed to eventually take them all put in a day.

Its a great get for gamepass, but again as it has been for me this yr when its come to xbox another game that i already own so the dust will keep gathering on it.

2023 better be the world greatest yr for a publisher ever cause i swear thats literally what xbox needs to even come close to attoning for this lacklustre yr.

neutralgamer1992607d ago (Edited 607d ago )

Can't wait to play it. I have it on PS5 but for some weird reason I never got around to playing it so maybe I will do so on XSX

And I know the answer and reaction already but could we please not turn this into fanboy console wars. Just enjoy the game and now more gamers will get a chance to play the game

Please get out of this fanboy stuff and enjoy this hobby because defending a plastic box and or corporations worth hundreds of billions shouldn't be a thing for us gamers

We keep doing that and staying scattered and greedy publishers take advantage of us by adding micro transactions. We should stand together for fair because if we are united publishers listen remember star wars 2 micro transactions stuff even Disney got involved once they realized how much backlash was headed their way

Please don't let few fanboys split us up and create hate for a plastic box

3.2.1 and the games suddenly amazing

Workshyskiver607d ago

To be fair it was the exact same on the other side, it was a very hyped game and a great get by Sony until M$ bought Bethesda.

crazyCoconuts607d ago

I don't know what you're talking about. It was great and still is great. Do you really think most people are changing their opinion of the game as companies change hands, or maybe you're just seeing comments from different people with different opinions?

Crows90607d ago

Not at all. The game was hyped because it's an arcane game. When it released the hype dropped because the game isn't that good.

It's the same deal with starfield. Hype is dropping because the game doesn't look that good.

You're definitely right about that

gamer9607d ago

3.2.1 and the game is suddenly crap. (Oh wait it got an 88 metascore and won some awards)

Crows90607d ago

Lots of questionable reviews for this game. Many of which mention skin color for some reason. I'm sure that had nothing at all to do with being happy with the game. Prey Moon crash is a better execution and it's just a DLC

tay8701607d ago

its not crap, but 88 is a bit more than it deserves honestly. bought it but got bored of it rather quickly.

JEECE607d ago

I'm sure there will be some "one year later, Deathloop feels like the experience I always wanted it to be" articles. They'll probably come from the same people who wrote the "Deathloop isn't clicking, but it sure makes me appreciate Dishonored 2/Prey/Prey's Mooncrash DLC" articles last year.

CrimsonWing69607d ago

Wasn’t it nominated for a bunch of awards when it released?

darthv72607d ago

Amazing... I wouldnt know. The game did not appeal to me then nor now.

A new Dishonored though.... now THAT would be amazing.

Lightning77607d ago

As far as I'm concerned nobody here was gonna buy it and wasn't looking forward to it because MS owns the studio. People here and even on Twitter showed indifference and disdain towards the because MS Owns them.

We should be buying games because we're interested in said game/it's quality and be way less concerned who develops and publishes it. Instead of "making a statement" and letting fanboy Wars get in the way and influencing your decision in a very negative way.

JEECE607d ago

Yep unfortunately this game caught the fanboyism coming and going. PlayStation fanboys largely skipped it out of anger at the Bethesda sale to MS (these were the people saying "who cares, it's a Bugthesda game," even though Arkane was the dev and not Bethesda Game Studios). Then Xbox fans also tried to dump on it without playing it simply because it was a timed exclusive on PlayStation (these people were dead obvious because they all said things like "I'm not into Deathloop, but Prey Mooncrash was fantastic!").

Lightning77607d ago

@Jeece the issue is these fan bases are giving devs reasons not to support their system because they're way too busy concerning themselves with corporate politics. Instead of being the gamer they want to arm chair for Sony and MS.

That's like saying Xbox fans won't be buying Bungies new IP because Sony owns them and they want to make a "statement".... The only "statement" they're making is giving Bungie a reason not to support Xbox at all in the future.

Same thing is being done here. The decision was to make future games exclusive but that decision has only been solidified further because PS fans simply didn't buy it.

JEECE606d ago (Edited 606d ago )

I mean, in a way I see it-why get invested in an IP if you are just going to have it pulled away from you because of corporate acquisitions? The PlayStation fans who skipped Deathloop aren't going to be worried about missing the sequel now (or whatever comes next from Arkane).

I'm just sorry that such a good new IP from a great dev got largely overlooked for fanboy reasons. And it's the only one I can remember that had both fanboy groups against it-usually at least when one "side" is artificially against a game, the other "side" is more interested than would be typically expected. But Deathloop got shunned by both groups.

Workshyskiver607d ago

Looking forward to this very much, I know its been a bit mixed on response but I've never had a bad experience with an Arkane game and I am sure I will enjoy this game for what it is on its own merits.

crazyCoconuts607d ago

It's a fantastic game imo. It's got the mechanics of Dishonored 2 with better and more amusing dialog and a cool story. Graphics are, like Dishonored, not impressive, but the great gameplay makes up for it

JEECE607d ago (Edited 607d ago )

Yep. I won't say it's underrated because then people will just say "but it got a high metascore!", but it's definitely underappreciated in terms of how many people actually played it and talk about it.

It's literally exactly the game people say they want: single player focused, no MTs, original IP and not a sequel, no seasons, and it runs really well (with the exception of some stuttering issues on the PC version that had to be patched). People constantly whine about how we don't get games exactly like this, but then when we get one they just yawn and go back to playing Apex Legends or Assassin's Creed 75.

Xbox Game Pass Suddenly Doesn't Feel Like The Best Deal In Gaming Anymore

With Microsoft closing studios, fewer new exclusive releases are expected for Xbox.

Not sure it ever was. It's upside was day 1 releases from 1st party. Few and far between plus it is just a rental service where you don't pick. It is fairly cheap for now that's a bonus. I think the beat deal in gaming is gamesale on reddit , and watching amazon

ThinkThink52m ago

Still the best deal in gaming for me, at least until it isnt.

Chocoburger16m ago

"Suddenly", my gosh are people so slow on the uptake.

I've been saying this for years, its just a rental service nothing special, and you don't get to pick what the rental catalogue is nor how long it lasts. Anything can be taken away from you on a whim, even while you keep paying.

You know what the best deal in gaming is? BUY your games on disc / cart, OWN THEM, play them as much as you want, and no one can take them away from you.

Tapes and cartridges from the 80's still work to this day, and people can still enjoy them without having to pay any additional fees. That sounds like a far better deal than a corporate rental service.

Hofstaderman12m ago(Edited 11m ago)

This. Playing xenogears on my OG PS1 right now. Just got to Dazil and have most deathblows learnt but not accesible due to my level. What makes it bearable on a 4K tv is a AV to HDMI upscaler. Obviously has limits but good enough for me. No worries of the game being removed from a service too.

darthv722m ago(Edited 1m ago)

That's the whole point of renting... you rent, you play, you buy your own copy if you feel the need. What GP is doing is no different than the blockbuster or hollywood videos or every mom and pop rental shop. And people would buy their own copies if they liked what they rented.

Fishy Fingers6m ago

I'll probably download 4 of the games they announced coming today over the next month for £9. Seems ok to me.

But then, I tend to play single player games and i rarely revisit so a "rental service" suits me. Pretty much everything I play on PS is via PS+ extra.

Unknown_Gamer57946m ago(Edited 5m ago)

It was always overrated. It only ever appealed to a certain subset of gamers anyways, which are the type who don’t care about owning games and are content to just experience them once and move on…or people who wanted to play CoD without buying it. It never seemed that glamorous to me, and I’m not at all surprised it has turned out to be unsustainable for MS.
