Silent Hill Project 'Sakura' Leaked, Reportedly Planned For PS5

There have been quite a lot of rumors regarding a new Silent Hill game and recently there have been some screenshots, and now an official product description of a Silent Hill project for PS5.

Hoping this is one of the hybrid games Sony spoke of that can be played flat or in VR while maintaining the quality you'd hope for from a franchise like this.

After RE7, Silent Hill could be amazing with the tech behind PSVR2.

Like to know what people find to disagree with about having the option to play either way at the expense of neither.

Is it just people without a VR option being selfish? Anti-VR folks? What difference would this make to you, if you can choose to play flat anyway? Genuinely interested to know.

I think it's because classic Silent Hill games are third person games, as they should be. Possibly a remake of Silent Hill 2, but not confirmed.
Either way a VR game would not make sense.

because then the game is built a specific way. Are you saying you want Silent Hill to also go the First Person route that Resident Evil has now taken? Personally I don't mind, but I can see why others might want a more traditional 3rd person experience. And expecting the devs to build both ways is time consuming and expensive.

Agreed @Lonewolf. I normally would, but this piqued my interest. It seems I was wrong to assume it was blind hating on VR, which is good news at least.

Seems people aren't aware of Sony's claims that the hybridisation of AAA games will be quicker and easier now.

Day and date AAA games launching on flat and PSVR2 would garner far more interest from gamers, in theory. It certainly got my attention.

Ultimately, I'll just be happy to get a top quality Silent Hill game!

@sully I mean it is kind of blind hate. People mentioning that vr shouldn't be put in a game that's traditionally 3rd person or whatever is kinda lame and doesn't help move the medium forward. Vr is much more engaging and if can be implemented without take away the core experience for the flat version then who cares? We barely vr games as it is and that mindset doesnt help

It could be few things.

1) It is not on their preferred console.
2) Ppl don't like VR
3) Ppl legit get scared in VR so don't want to experience that if that's the only way
4) All of the above lol

But I agree that Sony should have more horror games on VR. I would also like to see games like Frostpunk, Tropico, any city/town/theme park building kind of game in VR. I think that would be cool to kinda walk the streets from one of the ppl's perspective, as a mayor/leader talk to ppl in first perosn, take a ride on a roller coaster in VR (might cause nausea though lol),

PT was first person, and not only was it silent hill, it was one of the best interactive horror experiences ever made, and will soil some shorts in VR.

3rd person VR games exist. Theseus VR is a 3rd person VR game for example.

Any game can have a VR counterpart, VR games put the player inside the game, it can be any game really.

I think our only hope is another publisher like Sony or someone else makes the games like silent Hill and MGS because we know for sure Konami is not willing to fund AAA Blockbusters anymore

For me it comes down to the developer. If it's not the original developer's or Kojima I won't be that interested in it. Tbh, it's only like 2 or 3 good Silent Hill games, the rest was mediocre at best. I hope it's not Blooper team

Because I got excited for both The Medium and The Observer.
Observer played terribly. The Medium was horrifically written and very poorly optimised.

After all this time and so much build up to a new Silent Hill game, The IP deserves so much better than they could ever give it.

Abandoned was never real. I tried to tell people but they kept eating up all the hype claiming it was a ruse by Kojima and was secretly Silent Hill. People are so gullible.

I think people think they are the wrong fit. Their games are fine. But fall below the standard hoped for in a triple A title. This may be a matter of budget, but the expectations are higher than for an indy title and it is about trusting them to make the step up. It’s been so long since a proper Silent Hill has been released people will have higher expectations for things like combat elements and puzzles than twenty years ago. I know some SH games have existed since the original tetralogy but they were almost universally bad. I am not sure who people expect to make the title though. Because surely Konami has not kept any of the original teams. Their outsourced efforts have not worked either with maybe the exception of the passable but combatless Shattered Memories.

But what studio should do it?
Nobody in the AAA space who have well handled psychological horror are available.
Kojima will never work with Konami again. Monolith is stuck making licensed games. Capcom obviously wouldn't handle it without getting the IP itself.

Bloober actually makes sense. They understand psychological horror. Not all their games land, but they made a name for themselves with Layers of Fear and Observer.

Otherwise any other team I can think of is either Red Barrels (Outlast) or SadSquare (Visage); but they're both still indie/AA studios.

Well I was rooting for Remedy to get picked for a Silent Hill spin-off project, before Remedy announced multitude of new projects of their own (Alan Wake II, Max Payne Remakes). They were perfect but I guess Remedy is off the list.
Other than that, any capable studio who has never handled horror genre but are keen on doing so can be considered as well. (similar to how Kojima switched from MGS to SHs)
Cory Barlog himself tweeted, he is interested in remaking SH1.

I knew I was missing a couple. Remedy would actually be a great fit but, yeah. They're a medium sized studio already working on a sequel to Alan Wake, working on a Max Payne remake, and even have an unannounced project in preproduction.
Another good one could have been Tango, but they're with Microsoft now.

The medium took on dealing with psychological trauma in its themes and did so with the subtlety of a brick to the face.
Silent Hill has always had these themes in its writing and direction. Bloober are incapable of pulling it off.
Not to mention the quality of their work is mediocre at best. Both the observer and the medium launched with a range of issues stemming from bugs and glitches.
Bloober are out of their depth taking on a property as big as SH.

It's not hate, they just aren't the ones to do the IP justice. Their games are always a great concept, with great production quality. But they never fail to fall short, every time they just fail to deliver, especially once it actually comes to the gameplay loop and how they utilize the mechanics, they seem to really phone it in. They make decent games, Silent Hill just deserves better.

They're decent at environmental design, everything else sorta leaves a lot more to be desired. Blair Witch is a good example. For a game that takes place in the woods the lighting, shadowing and fauna layout looked great. The atmosphere was tense and constantly expectant from all directions. The story and gameplay weren't very good though. The twist on the lore in the film series wasn't a good decision, interaction was limited and there was an almost constant reliance on jump scares even though the environment did more as far as brewing paranoia than the actual "monsters", which for a Blair Witch game they should have ran with more as the environment in the film series is more or less an enemy accompanying the witch.

The Room actually was the last officially numbered entry on the franchise, "Silent Hill 4: The Room". Everything after that, whether a main entry or a spin off, dropped the counting on the title, so if they decide to go back to numbered entries, naming it SH5 makes sense.

I remain extremely skeptical since Konami is involved. If it is indeed Bloober, It'll also be interesting to see peoples reactions - a lot of people say Bloober makes "walking simulators".

Hoping its an entirely new game and not just the 1st game redone. The kind of psychological terror in SH is much more my style than the gore in something like Resident Evil. Still love RE, but prefer the sheer terror and feeling of dread in SH.

Supposedly there are 2 games in development . Maybe Blooper is doing the remake and some other dev or maybe even Kojima is doing the original new game ? That would be my guess and hope but it’s totally a guess .
