The Last of Us Part 1 Review: The Last Time for the Third Time - GameSkinny

TLoU Part 1 is for super fans of the series or those who missed the first two versions, especially for accessibility reasons. For everyone else, it's hard to recommend spending the 15 or so hours it takes to play through The Last of Us yet again.

These reviews are comical. So you give low scores to the same game, because it's been released again and you don't like the price tag?

Alos88632d ago

Since when is 7/10 a low score?

blackblades632d ago

Since when is this a fair review. You dont drop points because of what he said.

Broncob632d ago

Don't care what they say mate, it's a 10 for me, always has been now it's even better!

SyntheticForm632d ago

@Also88

Because there's zero reason to give what's been dubbed as masterpiece a lower score when it's *only* been made *better* - it doesn't add up.

How could the same game depreciate when it's been made better?

Machina632d ago

If that was how it worked, you could re-release the same game every single year with a slight improvement and each time critics would be obliged to give it a better score.

Fortunately that's not how it works; yes, in a way scores do depreciate with each re-release of a game, and so each re-release needs to bring something more to the table to justify scoring as highly as the original (be it added content, remade and much improved gameplay, a generation leap in graphics, etc.). Arguably TLoUP1 does that, arguably it doesn't, either way it doesn't *automatically* default to the same score as the original.

SyntheticForm632d ago (Edited 632d ago )

@Spec

It only got better; a generational leap in graphics as you put. The only case for a *lower* score given that it's the same game made better is the omission of Factions. I think it's *unarguable* that it doesn't provide the generational graphical leap - if it does *anything* it does *that* and a little bit more.

I *do* understand why people would scoff at a third release of a single game, though.

enkiduxiv632d ago

Why is that comical? The review exists to help the consumer see past the nostalgia. A 7/10 seems like a perfect score for an all time great game that received a mediocre remake.

I been thinking about something. Maybe its all about the perception of time and how even though there were 8 years between the PS4 remaster and the PS5 remake... some people think it wasnt as long as it was because the Pro gave it a new lease on life. ?????

Another game that had three iterations was Shadow of the Colossus. Released on PS2 in 2005, it then got an HD remaster for PS3 in 2011. Followed by a full remake for PS4 in 2018. The time between the remaster and remake was 7 years. 1 year less than this remake compared to the remaster and yet I dont recall people complaining about that game. Its like people dont even remember it got a PS3 remaster to begin with.

Game is a solid 9.0 out of 10 imo.

SyntheticForm632d ago

This game will always be a 10 to me.

This game, by itself, is a masterpiece - just as it was in 2013.

CrimsonWing69632d ago (Edited 632d ago )

I like how this review admits this is for super fans or people who never played it, but then reviews it as someone who has played it three times. Great review, way to strive for objectivity. So, it’s what, a 9 or 10 for newcomers and fans?

I’m still confused how a game that improves a lot over the original is somehow a worse game…

VanHalen632d ago (Edited 632d ago )

Game is a 5//10. Just milking this overrated so called masterpiece. They used flashy graphics to hide the fact it was such a terrble game when it first came out back then. I found the game so boring and slow, I couldn’t bring myself to even finish the original. Yet alone remake it again for the 3rd time. People cry, but the story. I don’t give a flying f@ck about some cgi story, I’m playing a video game, not a movie.

A lot of people got suckered into believing that this was supposed to be a masterpiece, and you are supposed to worship it, because paid reviewers and the like say so. I don’t think you could pay me to sit thru this boring game again. It would be too agonizing. There are loads of other games that are much more worthy than this overrated heap.

GoodGuy09632d ago (Edited 632d ago )

Well I believe you do also need to take into consideration the price tag and worth for game reviews also. Sadly Nintendo still does it and still gets praised lol.

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast113d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs110d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast110d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs109d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast109d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer113d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing69113d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs110d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing69110d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.

The Last Of Us Online Devs Celebrate Their Experience With The Canceled Game

The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.

Chocoburger158d ago

All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.

What a waste of time and money, what a shame.

seanpitt23113d ago

I can't wait for season 2 so they can kill Joel off in the first 2 episodes!! Then it will be just Abby and Ellies revenge plot!

Something is telling me that this won't happen though because it wouldn't make sense, oh wait

Linzoid158d ago

Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.

TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…

anast157d ago

This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
