Sony Promises 1-Hour PS Plus Trial for Rollerdrome, Offers 35 Minutes

The only perk for PS Plus Premium members in August is a one-hour full game trial of exciting extreme sports shooter Rollerdrome – except the company is actually only offering 35 minutes.

Don’t forget the 10 minute tutorial on top of that. PlayStation Plus Premium is quite the joke. Only one perk this month being this game trial and so many legacy games added. Oh wait…

Silly gameAr643d ago (Edited 643d ago )

You seem to have a problem with everything Sony does, and you make sure to be the first to let everyone know.

People should direct that bs to the company that's just coasting on a sub service and using marketing tactics to hide the fact they have no games coming. But, no. People are here mad over a demo instead of not getting any games at all.

The funny thing is, it's the same people bitching in every Sony article, but will turn around and act like the other company is the best ever for gamers. Some real clown sh*t going on on N4G.

Lightning77643d ago

"People should direct that bs to the company that's just coasting on a sub service and using marketing tactics to hide the fact they have no games coming. But, no. "

There's no hiding anything MS 2 biggest games got delayed out of this year, it's public knowledge. MS is keeping gamepass fresh and interesting each month. Nothing's being bidden.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH643d ago

So you’re going at him for throwing shade at Sony only to turn around and throw indirect shade at MS as your response? Oh the hypocrisy…

CBaoth643d ago

"MS is keeping GamePass fresh every month"

Proof positive Xbox fans say the dumbest fucking shit on the net. It's a indie centric service promising AAA 1st party exclusives day 1 without actually delivering 1st party games. Glad you're happy with power washing sims......but some of us expect more

Petebloodyonion643d ago

@Cboat
Quite ironic that you are mentioning that MS in an indie centric service in an article about Sony offering a TRIAL for an indie game.

REDGUM643d ago

Why can't I up vote you're comment twice? Lol. So true 👍..

That said though, I think there should be two options/subscriptions for playstation plus not 3.

The 2 major changes made were the trials and the classic games.

In my opinion, backwards compatibility should be free and always offered, trials for games should be offered from the get-go, and it's ridiculous to have to pay to play the online elements of the games you buy.

It shows you how anti-consumer consoles actually are, and each of the big 3 need to get better. It shows how much you actually get shafted for buying a "cheaper" console vs a PC.

jznrpg643d ago

You have time to post first in every Sony article. Anyway this is just bug . It says 35 mins but you actually get an hour .

shinoff2183643d ago

Its the 3rd month. Chill tfo. The trial will probably vary time wise depending on the player. Period

S2Killinit643d ago

PSPLUS Seems pretty awesome to me.

Elda643d ago (Edited 643d ago )

Imo both sub-services (PS Now & GP) are lackluster. Buying new games to own will always be the best way to play video games especially when it comes to new AAA games. If you want to play old games or some current low budget & Indies games then go for the sub-services.

Imagine paying more into psn to "demo" something when yrs ago we had easily accessible demo's that gave you slices of gameplay lol

How do these executives sit around and be like how do we make our "tiered subscription model attractive" I know! Instead of demo's we'll offer 1hr/35minutes of uninterrupted gameplay, pathetic.

RaidenBlack644d ago

Recall the CoD free weekend(s)? Activision used to let users play the latest CoD free for 3-4 days?
Previously this free weekend modes of CoDs and other online games were purely free.
No PS+ or anything required. If you got the console, just download the app and play. That was the norm for years.
BUT Now ... after these PS plus subscription got introduced into the ecosystem, 'free' is not totally free anymore.
The recent Vanguard free access weekend was tied to PS Plus service. It was labelled as a 'PS Plus Exclusive'. So its technically not totally 'free'. PS Plus subscription is/was required.
Hilarious.

VenomCarnage89643d ago

Reminds me of how Microsoft wouldn't even let you use your Netflix account on your Xbox unless you've had the privilege of paying them for Xbox live first.

As time goes on every one of these companies will squeeze us for more and more. If we were smart we'd have paid into Sony back when they were so pro consumer that it was basically stupid. They bled money though and started to do stuff like this instead because Microsoft was being praised at the same time as they were nickel and diming us at every turn

SurgicalMenace644d ago

Imagine being a company in a world of gripped by inflation, rising costs, and no end to be seen any time soon. Much like each individual complaining they have to create ways to sustain their longevity in this climate. Is it only okay for each of us to find ways to increase our earnings? For us it'd be labeled as survival but for them it's greed ignoring the facts that their situation includes overhead, employment, and growth to keep individuals not in their position satisfied. I guess the best thing for all these companies to do is to give away their offerings for free.

Mine is not a popular view but I do understand what it takes to be and remain successful, that's exactly what they're attempting to do. There are those of us that continue to support because we understand that, if we want to continue enjoying what the industry offers, we have to invest in it. Perhaps if you're not willing then don't but also don't be surprised if what you once cared so much about continues to disappear. You don't get something for nothing; that mentality is a fool's folly.

KillBill644d ago

"Fool's folly" is trying to make this argument for the company that is cutting off its own legs at every turn.

H9643d ago

Are you suggesting that Sony is only doing this because of the financial problems today? Not like every company takes the shortest route to steal money of its fans, what's next Microsoft is only doing rushed TV shows because they became poor from their accusations

SurgicalMenace643d ago

Sony, Nintendo, MS, Apple, Samsung, etc are all companies doing what it takes to win. That's what I'm saying. Is it convenient for everyone's pockets? No, and it shouldn't be. In what reality does any company steal your money? You have a choice to make money and spend it where you want. When's the last time a company sent goons to your door and forced you to buy what you couldn't afford? The stealing the people's money argument sounds more and more adolescent every time I hear it. You should get a cast for all those twisted arms you've been suffering.🤣

Imalwaysright643d ago

And there are those, like me, that know how much revenue and profit Sony's gaming divison has generated in the past few years and thus we can't help but to laugh at how utterly ridiculous your comment is.

Sony's gaming division operating profit:

In 2021 $2.2 billion
In 2020 $ 2.63 billion
In 2019 $4.63 billion
In 2018 $2.18 billion

Let us all pray on behalf of poor and brave Sony as they're clearly struggling and are only moving forward because of us.

MadLad643d ago (Edited 643d ago )

Imagine being a simp for any billion dollar multinational corporation and defending the anti-consumer practices they push on the average person so that they can remain a billion dollar, multinational corporation instead of justifying your existence through pro-consumer moves the consumer is actually happy to support.

SurgicalMenace643d ago (Edited 643d ago )

Anticonsumer? You mean too expensive for you, right? There's nothing anticonsumer about charging what you want for your products. Either you can afford it or you can't. There's nothing simpleton about an individual that doesn't spend his time whinning because Big Bad Corporate America isn't being nice to his wallet. Next you'll be crying because you can't find your binky. Name one "proconsumer" corporation that actually has quality behind their products? You'll be hard pressed to find any because quality often means cost no matter if it's games, food, cars, electronics, clothing, etc.

MrBaskerville644d ago

They did promise demos for all games above a certain price point, which makes it better. Unfortunately they aren't doing what they promised, there's like 8 demos and Rollerdome makes it 9. That's far from what they promised.

philm87644d ago

There's probably a date when this has to happen by. Developers wouldn't have had the demos/trials ready to go. Maybe it will be new games after a certain date.

fr0sty644d ago

PS+ Premium is new, demos take time for developers to code, and a lot of games that are coming out now were too far along in development (or had already gone gold) by the time PS+P launched for many demos to be ready to go yet. It'll take time.

MrBaskerville643d ago (Edited 643d ago )

@philm87
I do think that's what will happen. just weird that sony couldn't manage to have a trial for most of their own releases. It's not like they didn't have time to prepare.

Also, there's a huge amount of games that would qualify, so seems weird that we are still at 8. Perhaps we'll see a bunch in the coming months. Wonder how they will ensure that dead projects get a demo, force them to lower price?

neutralgamer1992644d ago

Remember when games use to be about fun and we could unlock cool stuff and use cheat codes

Now that is being sold to us as micro transactions. These companies don't have to think how to be more greedy when we have 24/7 defending fanboys

philm87644d ago

So you'd be happy to pay more for games in the first place rather than let other people fund games with microtransactions?

I'll just wait for the inevitable resolution article for this like usual and leave my torch and pitchfork where they are.

PorkMuffin644d ago

This is actually not true, while it does say 35 mins of trial left when I booted the game up yesterday, I was still able to play for an hour

LiViNgLeGaCY643d ago

Nah, I only got 35 minutes, unfortunately. So it must be true for SOME users, at least. Good news is, my son and I really enjoyed those 35 minutes, so we ended up purchasing it.

Angyobangyo644d ago

Lol, charging a premium subscription to get access to a glorified demo. Can’t wait for the ponies to spin this as a great feature.

fr0sty644d ago

At least they are demos of games people have actually heard of, unlike Xbox...

Orchard644d ago

Do they? This is the first I’ve heard of this game, and it looks like it’s nothing to write home about - sitting at 79 on metacritic.

Nacho_Z643d ago (Edited 643d ago )

@Orchard

80 Metascore and 9.4 user score. Sounds good to me, what are your minimum requirements before you break out the fountain pen for that letter home? I'm sure you never promote any Xbox games that score lower than that.

It's Sims 4: City Living. May be in the minority but this seems like fucking clickbait yet again. Could give the title of the game in the headlines but choose not to.

hombreacabado5d ago

i clicked it like a dumb ass not knowing it was a sims 4 dlc. not my cup of tea.

OtterX5d ago

Next time check out the tag underneath. ;)

Skuletor5d ago

It's not really free either, since it's provided as part of a paid service.

Luc205d ago

Thank you for your sacrifice.

mastershredder5d ago

The Sims? This is actually a title for people that just started dating a gamer or befriended a gamer or group of gamers, bought a console or PC and want to look like they enjoy playing video games by leaving this crap running in the background. Look, not one buys or plays this Sims crap (except for the console-store newb and clueless demographic). They try to sell discount it ALL the time. No wonder it's free. Essential? About as essential as stepping in dog dookie.

gold_drake5d ago

there are quite a few people who play and enjoy these games.
its not for you to dictate what people enjoy or not.

dont like it, dont download it.

MestreRothN4G5d ago

You’re so absolutely clueless, even in the subject you think you understand. Such amazing ignorance

BrettAwesome5d ago

It plays like sh1t on consoles too

Nacho_Z5d ago

Loved Sims 3, couldn't stand Sims 4. Seems like the next game is closer to 3 than 4 thankfully.
