Report: Microsoft Preparing to Roll Out New Xbox Cloud Games; Includes Elden Ring, GTA, & More

It looks like Microsoft is set to add Elden Ring, GTA5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and more to the Xbox Cloud games slate as store listings go live.

Now you can play Elden Ring(that you paid 60 for) on the cloud for an extra 15 a month.

It's kind of a cool extra if you are already a Ultimate subscriber...but nowhere near something big.

It’s big for me, I can sell my Series S and play Elden Ring off my shotty computer :) Elden Ring is the only game holding me back.

The policy of allowing you to stream games you own, even if it's not on GamePass is a good idea to kick start the service and get more people to try streaming. I think MS is doing a better job of marketing this capability than Sony did years ago. I don't think this will make streaming successful, but MS keeps improving the odds

I agree steaming is the future people need to accept it. What Microsoft is doing with cloud gaming should be commended not criticized. They really are pushing it for n consoles like no one else is.

I don’t understand when new technology comes there is always a small minority because it is small that always pushes back it’s like they thrive on conflict. Technology never stays the same get over it and adapt.

Yes of course as long as the option is there to buy it for your console or PC.
This argument comes up again & again, it's when they only bring a streaming version of the game out there's a point to be made..

I like the idea but phone are too fucking small to play anything detailed on. Now those foldable phones or tablets might be pretty cool f the latency isn't horrendous. But with game like Elden ring where timing matters I can imagine the frustration of playing this streaming.

If they have a phone or laptop that cant play it natively... sure, why not? By no means is my PC anywhere close to being able to play ER or Flight sim but I dont have to worry now. I can just sign in to XB on my PC and stream play it. And its surprisingly good too. I didnt think much of it when i was in the beta but then i saw how 'seamless' (yes i will use that word) it was able to pick up right where i left off in Gears of war. I was like... this is really cool. And now that even more demanding games are being made available, i can even play flight sim on my original day one VCR xbox one. How cool is that?

I've never seen anyone game on a laptop outside apart from a LAN party years ago.
Infact I don't see anyone gaming on switch or other handhelds either ?

If anything playing those games Streamed is just extra incentive to buy the digital or physical copies, its more like a glorified demo. I could not imagine playing Elden Ring under streaming conditions and feeling satisfied.

No. I dont own Flight sim but i can stream it to my phone or pc or older generation xbox one (and i have, its cool). you can stream games you own so long as they are also available to stream in GPU. I have several in my own library that have a little cloud icon next to them. I can play those or others i dont own that are also part of the service.

My friend works overnights at a call center and he lives off of streaming games through Gamepass.

You can always go out and buy something like a Steam Deck, but some don't want to spend the money, so streaming is a great option.

And that's the whole point, it's an option. Having options is never a bad thing. I'm not big on streaming, but I've tried it here and there and it could be a solid enough experience under the right conditions.

Personally I never considered that, I also work overnights as well and as a result the Switch has become my best friend, I'm also considering purchasing the Steam Deck for that same reason, but if your friend is streaming games via Gamepass and it's a viable experience then I'm going to have to try that out myself.

When has Microsoft ever stated they wanted an all streaming future? It's on option; and one each of the big 3 are using.
They all are making good money on dedicated hardware sales, so it makes no sense to stop releasing consoles and supporting them with physical/digital media.

As for subscriptions, the market dictated that's what the public wants. The rise of Netflix and Hulu proved that years ago. Since then all major game companies followed suit.
Don't know why you're trying to frame that as a Microsoft only situation.

Satya Nadella and many other representatives for Microsoft have repeatedly said that they envision a future where everything and everyone is connected via the cloud. And that is the long term goal that Microsoft as a cooperation is working towards.

Unfortunately, when one company has the level of control Microsoft does over their industry, they can force unpopular things even when people don't want them.

And the fact that you have so many Microsoft cheerleaders who support them even when they are doing things they ordinarily wouldn't support, it makes it that much easier for them.

Take Google and Stadia, people hated streaming and were very vocal against it, now that you have Microsoft doing it you see the very same people cheerleading streaming.

I would like to see the "cheerleading" happening for only streaming.
There's people who acknowledge streaming has its purpose, but virtually nobody considers it the optimal way to game.
Microsoft game studios has given no indication that was the future they're aiming for.
They make money on their consoles.
The current internet landscape doesn't even allow for streaming only to be viable to most people.

Stadia being a streaming only system that still tried selling their games like they were a digital/physical version and completely and utterly failing says a lot about why no major company is looking to follow suit.
Microsoft has a lot of money to throw at things; sure. But so did Google, and they did, and they still failed horribly.

Streaming is an option. Microsoft offers it in a pretty solid way; but it's not their focus. Each major console company has their version of it. It's not a Microsoft only thing.

Could you imagine trying to play any Souls game with horrendous input lag. You'd have more success putting the controller down and yelling at the thing to roll than fighting input lag.

When Microsoft revealed the Xbox One aka ''tv, tv, tv and watercooler'' they were shredded for announcing online DRM and no game sharing.

Phil & Co. went back to the drawing table and they've been ready since June 2017 (5 yrs ago) to try it again. This time they call it xCloud and GamePass...

cloud gaming just isn't good. I don't see the appeal here for anything that requires low latency.....especially games that involve combat and twitch driving. Good luck weaving traffic in GTA

i wouldnt want to play these games on the cloud. imagine the input lag and stutters.
your connection has to be top tier for it to be flawless.
