Sony class action alleges company concealed crash, shut down defects

Sony knowingly conceals a defect in its PlayStation 5 (PS5) video game system that causes the system to suddenly crash while users are playing games, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

She is alleging a console defect but it sounds like she is having issues with a specific game. I used to have certain games that needed to be patched but they were and the crashing went away. Also, she could just have a faulty console. But crashing isn't a console defect. In fact if you are running a game with a bug and it locks the system, it should shutdown. Either way its clearly not wide spread. There are too many people playing games everyday for only one lady in Illinois to notice.

I would love to hear the specifics of the case so other people can see if it is repeatable for them. I suspect her chances of not having this thrown out are very low.

She was probably having a really good run and her game crashed and something crashed inside her soul too lol.

TVs, phones, laptops, consoles etc, All consumer electronics which are manufactured in millions will have a small percentage of defective ones. That is why companies give warranty.

Exactly, I had FFXV two weeks~10 days before the official release, I finished the game with barely 3 crashes and 2 bugs. Other than that I flawlessly finished the game before getting day 0 patch. On other hand, people had dozens of issues on release date. Software can be very tricky and ruin or even reck the best hardware, another example: that infamous Batman Arkham game on PC.

I thought my PS5 was defective when I first got it. But it turns out it was just a bug in their OS that prevented some games from working with the Rest Mode feature. Still, it was a pain in the ass at the time having the system crash repeatedly. Thankfully that's long since been fixed.

I recall something along those lines being fairly widely reported with some games and rest mode not working. Some would act like the world would end if you used rest mode. I never had any issues on the games I had, thankfully.

yeah for me it was Spiderman Remastered (which was one of the culprits). I remember others having issues with Call of Duty. I also had some issues with my external drive being plugged into my PS5 and using rest mode as well.

Again, all things of the past and were fixed.

I thought it was my ps5 giving me issues too, video kept clipping out. Tried changing the resolution flicker rate and all but to no avail. Found it my tv wasn’t updated to the latest software so it was having signal issues.

Keep updating my LG B9 but still get 5-10 second blackouts at least one time every gaming session, but nearly always only one time, so pretty sure the cable is not the cause.

It can be incredibly annoying because 5 seconds can totally ruin your progress if it happens at a critical moment. I have to blindly hit the pause button to try and minimize the damage.

I got an annoying weird bug, games were disconnecting from network very randomly, it turn out I have close other applications tha on rest like Crunchyroll.

I don't think this is widespread as this is the first I'm hearing of it. The stick drift issue on the dual sense controllers is the real problem. Almost all dual sense controllers will drift at some point. Didn't think it would reach me as I am always gentle with the sticks.

This problem (drifting) is even worse on Switch consoles/handhelds (whatever you want to call that system).
Drifting-issues with controllers are really a "big" problem but that already started with the last generation. The sticks got more and more sensitive for really small movement, they heavily reduced the deadzone of the sticks and so the drifting issue occurred.
Fixing it on switch (for a while) can be fairly easy. Most times the sticks need a bit more pressure, so placing a small piece of cardboard under the sticks can help for a while. But the issue will come back.
Also already replaced many sticks in the switch controllers but this is really only a temporal solution. The problem will return.

I’ve had my PS5 since day one and use rest mode every since. I only had problems with it crashing the first week while in rest mode.

😒 My house has 2 PS5s and crashes depend on the game. Some games like CyberPunk 2077 crash a lot and other games never crash.

Another utterly baseless lawsuit from the land of the lawsuits, what a shocker. They should be able to counterclaim for talking utter nonsense. My advice don’t play poorly made games that are broken or glitchy as 9/10 times it’s those crappy games making your system crash not the other way round 😑🤦🏻‍♂️ 🤣

I don't know, there may be some merit to this case. I have been having crashing and freezing since launch. I always fully save whenever I can so it hasn't caused major issues for me. But it seems every few weeks I have at least one major crash where the game just stops and the console restarts, saying that I didn't turn off my console properly and it needs to repair the SSD. Sometimes it happens when I put it into save mode and occasionally happens right in the middle of a game. It actually just happened to me again the other day when I was playing Horizon FW. These things are common in launch versions of consoles though so I don't sweat it and it still works despite the occasional crashes. This is why I usually buy the revised model of any console when they come out. I imagine we'll have a PS5 slim or pro model fairly soon anyway.

There is no merit to this case. People would rush to twitter or forums if this was a wide spread issue.

I just played all the resident evil ps5 upgrades and no crashes. But replaying the dead space and yakuza kiwami 2 on series X had crashes. Should we investigate? No.

Crashes are not even that bad these days as it takes 20 seconds to load back into the game. This is a hysteria generating piece to get some clicks.

I also have a switch but i can't really know if the crashes are genuine as it's "altered"🤫

Sounds like a defective console to me. Mine has never done that. However I did discover I could not watch the movies I bought through the Playstation app without disconnecting the external hard drive which I hope they patch at some point.

I had Skyrim crash 4 times today on it but it's Skyrim so /shrug

one fix i have used is actually dusting and cleaning the heatsink. one my 2nd ps5, it would crash after 30minutes without any warning. worked out that it was due to over heating. just cleaning the fan isnt enough if the buildup of just gets really bad. had to use a fine brush and mini vac to unclog the heatsink. ever since, its never crashed or turned off unless it more software related via a game. hope this helps some people

Look up error code 108255 I've dealt with it and tried all the fixes suggested but it didn't work because it was a hardware issue. It looks like enough people had the issue if you look it up on Youtube (that's were I went to try to get a fix) as well as Sony themselves.
