Lovely! Quality control has taken a hit in all industries as these companies are trying to keep up with demand.

MeteorPanda738d ago (Edited 738d ago )

there are lemons in every tech launched, what are you on about? That's what warranty is for, you know that right?

jznrpg737d ago

The power button is fairly important though lol. I know all tech has issues but turning it on definitely should not be one of them especially out of the box.

The bigger question is are power buttons going to fail sooner than later even if they work out of the box ?

As @Meteor said every launch of new hardware has some unforeseen issue. My SteamDeck has been an awesome piece of tech, that will continue get significantly better once Windows is fully running with drivers / updates etc.., and IMO shows there's potential in a Switch 2 or even a PSP2 (preferable a PS Tab).

The only negatives IMO are the size of it (it's not HUGE, but it's without question a good deal larger and thicker than a Switch), and with dedicated hardware of this level comes required fan cooling which means the fans can ramp, but THEY'RE MUCH BETTER NOW.

A remodel that can shave an inch off the length of the system, and about half an inch off the width, while using a 6nm, 5nm, 4nm refresh (or successor) with 5G would make the SteamDeck a dream mobile gaming PC, because it's almost already there.

Ryushaa738d ago

You tell them. The worst being Nintedon't with its analog drift, and resulting lawsuit

HeliosHex738d ago

It's ok steam takes care of its customers iam sure they will make it right.

ABizzel1738d ago

THEY 100000000% do. I missed my original order date, because I didn't know the email came and the credit card I used to pay it off I lost so it couldn't confirm my order since I had a new credit card. So they ended up giving me the credit I used and refunded me the rest.

I took my L and just ordered a new one with an October arrival date, and just so happened to email them and tell them what happened so I could see if I could just pay it off in full so I wouldn't have to worry about it since my credit was only like $50 and it wouldn't let me use both the credit and pay off the device. They ended up sending me an instant invite to reorder my original purchase and I got it within a week.

A++++++++ service.

specialguest738d ago

They will. My steam deck reservation email was sent to make the purchase and it expired 3 weeks later before I realized it. I sent the support team an email stating I never got the email (I actually got the email, but somehow missed it). They reinstated my reservation out of customer courtesy and I was able to purchase my steam deck. It delivered 3 days later

CantThinkOfAUsername737d ago

You mean Valve. Steam is a digital store.

MeteorPanda738d ago

With how much it's packing in that case it's no wonder that there's some duds. People expecting anything less are not in touch with reality.

MeteorPanda738d ago

what d oyou mean what? You are thinking a factory line wont create some faults? All compact hardware in that small a product...is bound to have faulty models - all well and good, warranty covers such things. It's two years for technology for a reason.

0rbital71738d ago

had it in me basket for q1 release, after much deliberation and seeing it for what it is, i cancelled, Halleluja!

Number1TailzFan738d ago

I had the top model on reserve but didn't pay for it when i had the email. Probably go for the cheapest one if i order again. Most likely save my money for PC upgrades instead since next gen GPUs and CPUs are coming soon.

If you could upgrade the APU in the Steam Deck it would be pretty awesome. But you're stuck with what it has, still seems a good device regardless though.

Outlawzz738d ago

Well good thing it went to someone who could appreciate it. Would hate to have it in your hands lol

specialguest738d ago (Edited 738d ago )

If you were on the fence about it and not sure then you've made the right decision. There are many other people who really want it now, but are stuck on waiting for Q3. That's one steam deck opened for someone else who wants it more. Luckily I got mine during Q2 and it's an amazing handheld PC. Valve really made this thing highly customizable like the expansive custom button layout option and functionality and easily running emulation. It will only get better from this point on

navi87737d ago

Huh, they put so much effort into this thing and then of all things, the power button can fail. Oh dear. This is why I never buy new tech as it comes out.
Also the Steamdeck will be pretty obsolete soon with all the new improvements with AMDs iGPU in the last year.

Outlawzz737d ago

Yes it will instantly not be able to play any games because there's a new chip coming out and all the games will migrate over to this new chip and every other system will be locked out if they don't have this new chip and nobody will be able to game anymore.... need I go on

Steam Deck now has a bigger games library than the Nintendo Switch by some margin

Steam Deck officially supports a massive amount of games, easily providing players more choice than what is available on the Nintendo Switch.

UltimateOwnage2d ago

It's much larger than that, if you factor emulation and how easy it is to run pretty much any "unsupported" game on the Deck using Bottles.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

It's insane how most games I've thrown at it have worked with little to no effort on my part, some of my games run better on Linux than Windows.

notachance2d ago

technically speaking it also includes Nintendo Switch libraries..

Espangerish2d ago

Even without emulation, it’s massively broader than switch. This is so obvious I’m surprised it’s merited an article.

Yui_Suzumiya2d ago

Can't wait to get a Steam Deck OLED soon!

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

You'll enjoy it, I only got the 512GB model because I wasn't sure if I'd like it, I should have bought the 1TB model, but I guess I can add in a 2TB drive when SSD prices relax again.

I actually played Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on it a few days ago.

Steam News - Steam Client Update - May 7th

As the latest client update rolls out for Steam Remote, it appears Steam Deck users may not be able to reap the benefits just yet. The client update in question has added support for full HDR streaming from a Windows PC using Nvidia or AMD hardware acceleration to another Windows PC or Mac with an HDR display. However, Steam Deck users are struggling to send HDR from their PC to their device.
