Make a switch successor and I'll buy everytime.

Nintendo doesn't care to build a successor as long as they keep on selling the switch at the rate they are selling it. ot for nothing they have been giving fans the same games over and over for the last decade. Winning team doesn't change !

BOTW was far different than any Zelda game before it. Super Mario Odyssey and Galaxy are platformers, each offering different play styles, and settings. Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the best JRPGs around, and all 3 are completely different. Mario Kart, offers the most fun Kart racing games available (I do like Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed quite a bit though). Bayonetta 2 is fantastic, and 3 is coming soon. Metroid Dread, isn't more of the same. Paper Mario much different. Super Smash Bros Ultimate added a ton of new content.

So my thought is, you probably just aren't a Nintendo fan. Personally, I have all 3 systems and a gaming PC. I have been playing Series X the most, but when Nintendo releases any big new game, I am most likely going to buy it. Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Bayonetta 3, are probably going to be my next 2 Switch games.

Gregerro732d ago

I totally agree with you. They released maybe 1 new game per major IP they have for the switch and just remade everything else. People fucking stuffed it down their throat faster than Nintendo could port their shit again. They really don't have to do much for their audience - just remake a remake and do it again! They'll love it!

Aloymetal732d ago

Don't worry Nintendo, you know you got at least 2nd place in the bag. Keep doing what you've been doing and all will be ok.

thesoftware730732d ago

2nd place?

In what regard?

Not systems sold.
Not game scores.
not first-party game sales.
and even if Sony makes the FY $$ profit, it's still a toss-up as Nintendo doesn't lose money on systems sold, ever.

gold_drake732d ago

gotta say, you keed to know Aloymetal pretty well to know he meant Sony.

otherwise a pretty bold statement.

Nintendo excells in 1st party game sells thats true. but their 3rd party games are underperforming im comparison.

Aloymetal732d ago

Let me repeat, 2nd place guaranteed because 3rd is reserved for your preferred console, get it now??

Tapani732d ago

What is this concept of "preferred console" ? I thought us gamers only have preferred games!

Doge732d ago

I don't think they're worried, considering the Switch is less than 10 million units away from outselling the PS4.

thesoftware730732d ago

LOL, my preferred console...I prefer to play whatever games I like.

I don't spend money on things I don't enjoy, I still have almost all the old consoles dating back to the 80s. I was lucky enough to get a PS5, and SX in the launch window and rock my Switch regularly. See I get why you might think I'm am mainly an Xbox fan, but I'm more of a love everything gamer in RL, I only seem to defend Xbox on here mainly cause 1, I like Xbox as well as my other systems, and 2, people on here are rabid to see one company fall while giving the other company a pass for the same stuff or sometimes worst practices. hypocrisy is crazy on here.

Kantian Ethics brother.

thesoftware730732d ago (Edited 732d ago )

Easy, Just call it Switch 2 U! j/k.

But really, all they have to do is use Nvidia's newest mobile chipset, customize it a bit to allow for 1440p, higher fps, up to 60, no need for Ray Tracing, and just make sure it's backward compatible with the current Switch games. launch it in 2024 for $350, make sure BotW 2 and Metroid Prime 4 is in the launch window, and in the same year launch a new 3D Mario game, sprinkle a few 3rd party games that shouldn't be able to work well on a handheld but surprisingly runs well and boom...INSTANT SALES.

Nebaku732d ago

There is no incentive in that for the average Nintendo consumer.

The last time they just did a pure tech upgrade was the GameCube, and that did the worst in it's generation.

--Onilink--732d ago

So I’m curious, have you seen what the Steam Deck can do for a significantly higher price than those $350?

I think people really tend to underestimate just how many compromises need to be managed when dealing with a handheld. Power, battery life, cooling/heat…all really difficult things to overcome.

Unless they are adding additional compute power from the dock, my guess is that handheld mode will continue to be 720p and the output resolution of docked mode 4k, but the actual render resolution nowhere near that , unless there is some witchcraft in putting in some real DLSS capabilities into the Switch 2 (which again, space, power draw, battery life, cost, all of it counts when you need to add additional tensor cores to do dlss)

StarkR3ality732d ago

If phones can do gaming at 2k in a smaller form factor then surely Nintendo can come up with a solution being the bigger device, I think 1080p would be fine.

Plus mobile chipsets these days are incredibly power efficient and thermals aren't a problem with a liquid cooling implementation.

Likelyhood would be that this would push the cost of the switch to £400 mark, but you get what you pay for at the end of the day.

thesoftware730731d ago

Oni, I agree with some of what you said, I was optimistic on a higher level. 1080P/60 would be fully workable on a handheld, and as you said add some compute power to the dock for dynamic 4k, they can have VRR to help.

As Stark Pointed out cellphones output some nice graphics, so a dedicated handheld can indeed produce higher results. I mean realistically the new Switch has to be stronger than the current one and anything above what it can produce now can put it on or close to OG Xbox one, and thats at the least it should do.

--Onilink--731d ago

@Stark

I would be really interested to see which $350 phone can do decent gaming of a proper large scale game and whose battery doesnt run out in less than 2 hours.

Even $800-1000 iPhones struggle to run a game like COD Mobile for more than 3 hours.

Also, liquid cooling? On a handheld? Where did you saw that? If ever, i only saw one xiaomi phone which had terrible thermals.
Liquid cooling of any kind still requires big heatsinks and fans to dissipate the heat. That is not a possibility on small handheld devices. Hell, even on PC, the smaller AiOs with a heatsink that only fits one fan (120mm) are proven to have worst performance than air coolers

Agent75731d ago

What, for $500/£500? New franchises? Sequels to games that have been left to gather dust such as Pilotwings, Wave Race and F-Zero. I wish Nintendo would just do a SEGA as I couldn't care less about Nintendo consoles now.

DefaultComment731d ago

Yet you wish that they become SEGA, that double standards of yours is disgusting.

Outside_ofthe_Box732d ago

Heard that sub services are all the rage these days. Maybe they can go that route to guarantee success and no longer have a 'major concern'? 🤔

S2Killinit732d ago (Edited 732d ago )

Oh god please no

godofboobees732d ago

Just make a traditional console

shinoff2183732d ago

Please. I dont want gimmicks like motion controller. Hell i felt motion control ruined alot of wii games for me. Just a regular traditional console please

SurgicalMenace732d ago

A new traditional console not one that reuses old tech from previous systems.
3DS= Virtual Boy + Game & Watch
Wii= GameCube + Powerglove
Switch= WiiU + DS

Push the envelope, please.

RyanDJ731d ago

Just remember......no matter how much you push the envelope, it'll always be stationary.

Nintendo Is A Bad Company, But We Can't Help Loving Them Anyway

TG: “Most of us also grew up with Nintendo, likely forming a nostalgic connection with games that have long been crowned as our personal favourites. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was an experience that shaped my view on open world fantasy, and Super Mario 64 changed my life like it did for millions of others. These titles have earned their place in history, and remain loved to this day for so many worthwhile reasons. We replay them and beg for remasters all while delving into their worlds time and time again because they mean that much to us. It’s a shame then that the company behind them often kicks its own sweet darlings to the curb.”

I never got the love for Nintendo games personally. The annoying vocalizations and ugly character designs do nothing for me.

Another very weird article.

Nintendo is a great company by almost all possible normal measures. The biggest one being: their own staff is happy, and they seem to be very happy, well compensated and retain rate is solid. They are also financially very stable, profitable, and cash rich, so shareholders love them.

Overall it is an extremely creative group of people, and their mission statement is fantastic as well "to put smiles on the faces of everyone we touch. We do so by creating new surprises for people across the world to enjoy together." The social impact is also massive, not to speak culturally. Additionally, they have a really strong core business, high customer retention rate and loyalty. Nintendo's reputation is extremely good, I think in the US alone they are 9th most reputable company, their customer service is better than the average company. Plus, the press gives them a pass, because they are Nintendo. But there's a reason why they do that, it's not "because they are Nintendo", there are more layers to the argument.

Then, then there's the random negative gamers online...and their "reputation" which is inside their heads. And their western ideas of how a Japanese company should behave or what they should do. But they have no right to ask a company to do anything for them, because they can vote with their wallets.

There's a small vocal community online who dislikes Nintendo for what they are, but then again, there's always a small vocal community that dislikes something.

Nintendo also disagrees with the Western world about IP, but most people call Westerners "hidoi!" when they emulate Tears of the Kingdom and do not experience it the way Nintendo wanted them (even if it is not the best visual way), because it is a matter of principle to them (Japanese are very much against anything close to plagiarism, and there are laws that are tight about creative works copying etc.)

The Western Braveheart "freedoom!" shouters need to understand that it is not an American company, nor they need to behave like one. They can have their own fights based on their principles (against emulation). And they very well may lose the battle with that and change, or find a new audience.

In the end, it is so very simple. Don't buy the products if you don't like a company, but there's no need to paint a picture that is unrealistic about Nintendo either.

MadLad348d ago

I hate virtually everything about their business practices, actually. Suing everybody for virtually anything, shooting down fan projects, games they never let devalue, their online infrastructure and how they handle BC.

They're lucky they make great games, because that's the only thing I feel they do right.

gold_drake347d ago

my issue with them, is the complete refusal to have decent tech for us.

and their odd censorship and lawsuits for modders.
