The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen versions delayed out of Q2 2022

"We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice"

italiangamer757d ago

In oher words the designated external developer did a crappy job and now they have to work on it themselves to avoid a Cyberpunk part 2.

monkey602757d ago

The external developer is Russian so that may also be the case

RaidenBlack757d ago

No ... The Witcher 3 update was in the works at Saber’s St. Petersburg studio and CDPR made the decision to pull the project following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. CD Projekt Red was one of the first publishers to come out strongly against the invasion of Ukraine, halting sales of their own projects and anything sold through GOG.com in Russia only days after the tanks began to roll.
.
The strange thing is,
The Saber St. Petersburg was/is just a subsidiary ... Its not like Saber Interactive Inc. is a Russian company.
Saber is still head quartered at Florida.
Saber has numerous subsidiaries all over Europe and North America ...
The work should've shifted to just another subsidiary. In other words, another Saber subsidiary should've picked up from where they left off.

Killer2020UK757d ago

Maybe they had issues with Saber over this and chose to remove the project from them altogether.

robtion757d ago

Not surprising being a Polish company. Poland and Russia have a pretty complex history.

Hopefully it still turns out well, there is no rush, we have all played the game already.

StarkR3ality757d ago

I'm a bit salty about the delay but I understand this. More important things going on. I'd also like to say I feel sorry for the guys working on it at Sabre. They did an amazing job with the Switch port and the situation in Ukraine isn't their fault, and now they're probably struggling for work like a lot of people in Russia.

I hope this war comes to an end shortly, it's heartbreaking what's happening to both sides, Russians living in England I've spoke to are ashamed, they did not want this war.

bondsmx757d ago

Am looking forward to playing this again.

I realized last night, I played the Witcher 3 for 1 month.. beat it. Instantly became one of my favorite games of all time. And that was 7+ years ago.

I month of playing.. over 7 years of memories. Crazy. With the next gen upgrade I’m gonna play it again.

Michiel1989757d ago

did you play the dlcs? They are probably one of my favorite dlc's of any game, good length and great quality.

robtion757d ago

Witcher 3 and Bloodborne = Essential DLCs.

CobraKai757d ago

Geeze. When you put the timeframe into perspective, I always get blown away by how long it’s been. I swear it only felt like I beat this last year

1nsomniac757d ago

I still haven’t completed it. Haven’t even started the DLC. No idea how many hours I’ve sunk into it.

Snakeeater25757d ago (Edited 757d ago )

And soon in Q3 and after in 2023

The past show that they are terrible at releasing in time.

Q2… Q3 is so vague… it’s just poor planification or développement

frostypants757d ago

Do you want it now or do you want it done right? Are you planning your life around this release date?

Snakeeater25757d ago

I want better planification for the start so delays don’t happen.

They are really bad at it and if you support delay and bad dev you are part of the problem.

neutralgamer1992757d ago

Instead of doing this should they spend some of these resources to update the first 2 games in the series since many didn't get to play them

Maybe my opinion is in the minority

MadLad757d ago (Edited 757d ago )

Depends on what you play on.
I'm mostly a PC guy, and both Witcher 2 and 3 still look fantastic.

Witcher 3 already looks pretty great on the Series S, but Witcher 2 seems like it was never touched from the original release. Pretty muddy. Would not complain if they cleaned it up a but and upped the resolution.

StarkR3ality757d ago

Witcher 2 on Series X/One X got a 4k patch/updated textures.

DF did a whole video on it a while ago, the game still looks amazing at times.

MadLad757d ago

@stark

Oh no
Well aware of the updated visuals they had on certain machines. Just surprised it wasn't carried over to the Series S.
I had Witcher 2 running amazingly on cards as old as the GTX680, so the Series S should be able to handle Witcher 2 with great visuals no problem.
I mean, Witcher 3 already looks and runs great on it no problem, and that's before the coming graphical update.
I actually refunded Witcher 2 just because it was no better than playing it on the Xbox 360, and it was just too muddy for me.

MadLad757d ago

Just reread your comment.
I highly agree they should do a full remake of the original game.
There is quality content there, but it was highly evident that the original game was made on a small budget.
Not to mention, back in the day, they were trying to get a 360 version out on the market. The series obviously did well, but there's many who never got the chance to get their hands on the first game, and it feels pretty janky by today's standards.

neutralgamer1992757d ago (Edited 757d ago )

That's what I meant they should do a remake of the first and make quality of life improvements not just graphics. The content is great it's just the controls and gameplay is outdated

StarkR3ality

I didn't know that I will try it thanks. But they should bring all 3 games to modern consoles. PlayStation never got Witcher 2

Michiel1989757d ago

Witcher 1 would need much more than a graphical overhaul for the masses that enjoyed Witcher 3 to enjoy it. its one of my fav games of all time, but i can get that people who didnt play it back in the day wont appreciate it. Combat is a rhythm game with only a couple patterns, you actually have to read quest text and dont get pointed everywhere and be creative with some solutions. Those things wont go over well with most modern audiences. Its a shame really since Witcher 1 is the game that made me feel most like a witcher. It needs a complete remake which i doubt they are willing to do.

neutralgamer1992757d ago

But if they do a remake and do the game justice than it would sell really well.

glennhkboy757d ago

I've tried to reply the Witcher 2 last year (I finished 2 & loved it back at my Xbox 360 days). The game play design felt restrictive & old-school. It may not standup to modern game design standard, unless a complete re-make.

Patch 4.02 Barely Did Enough for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen

Rayan from NoobFeed writes - The Witcher 3 Next-Gen has been one of the greatest works of CD Projekt RED, but the game has had plenty of issues since its release. While Patch 4.02 did fix some specific quest bugs, but the crashes are still a major issue. Patch 4.02 did fix some specific quest bugs that are great, but the crashes are a major issue along with the flickering.

I don't wanna be "that guy" but a couple of those sentences up there make no sense.

MadLad406d ago

Nah. If you're going to write, then publish that writing, you should have a decent grasp of grammar and the written word.
You don't need to be an English major, but there should be a certain standard to hit for the reader's sake.

How the hell did they mess up the performance mode?! It was almost locked to 60 before! Now it barely hits 50!

andron450d ago

Yeah, hopefully it's a bug or something...

JokerBoy129450d ago

We already found out there was a community mod in the patch. Curious if something else slipped in too that is causing this performance drop...

jznrpg450d ago

Maybe a penis mod slipped in with the vagina mod

Not this again! Are they incapable of patching this franchise properly.
