XboxOZ360's Top 12 Games 'Overall' of 2008 - OXCGN - MGS4 #1

XboxOZ360 writes: "We look at the top 12 games from several platforms in order to determine which are the Top 12 Overall Games for 2008, and you might just be surprised at the 'overall' winner for 2008 - coming from an Xbox site. OXCGN (aka XboxOZ360-gamer) has always maintained that the staff are "gamers" - not fanbois. Most have more than 2 consoles and platforms to play games on and simply enjoy 'gaming' period.

So what better way to round off the year than to take a look at what we believe to be the top 12 'overall' games of 2008. Some of you may agree, disagree or simply sit on the fence, but each game has its merits and each one has been judged on those qualities as well as several other factors which help it stand ahead of the rest."

That's correct mate almost all the staff over at OXCGN have been privileged to enjoy the experience that MGS4 had to offer and thoroughly loved it all the way till the end.

Like we have stated many times before and will continue to do so, we are a site of gamers not fanboy's we appreciate every console for what they offer and look at them all pretty much equally.

It's one of the few titles that really shines on the console and while the PS3 may not have the same amount of games the 360 does it makes up with quality over quantity.

Interesting selections, though I personally don't agree with all the selections I think it's great that Braid, Lost Odyssey and MGS4 in particular are in there. Death to Fanboyism :)

I agree with most of the Top 5... but most of the rest, bar Far Cry 2 which I haven't played, hardly seem deserving of my personal Top 12. Where's LBP, Fable 2, GTAIV and Banjo?

i only have Ps3 but i do wish i could play "GeOW 1&2. don't think it's worth buying 360 just for those two games though. plus, i like sony's exclusive line up. variety.

super kudos to Kojima and team also, cant forget them. A classic in gameplay and story telling. Stella list. The only games ive not played on it are crysis and braid

ha, and yes i will play it. Ive been telling my mates to dload it for a while now. Im glad its doing well and getting credit. Ill probably grab it if it comes to psn if not ill hijack my mates 360

as the early comments in the gamerzone have stated, its really nice to see love spread around to all consoles, especially for a site dedicated to one console in particular. very professional, and an appreciated omission of fanboyism. but really all the choices seemed very fair and had merit.

in my own opinion, i might have swapped resistance of farcry for littlebigplanet, for innovation and a revival of the platformer genre. theres a lot of shooters on that list, and theres nothing wrong with that, because thats what the people what, apparently. but neither of those titles stood out of the shooter crowd as much as i would have liked. r2 was fun, but i think lbp brought more to the table. then again that is just me.

Just not enough time and cash to get the game.. i rely on my brother to buy PS3 games as i own the 360 and he owns the PS3. But i've heard good things about LBP that's for sure

I know a lot of PS3 owners have held off buying LBP, and put it on their Xmas lists... i know I did..

im hoping it will be something different that will get me through the holiday perhaps a bit longer than standard shooter or something...

I probably don't agree with Super Smash Bros either as it's just another Super Smash even if you can now wave a wiimote around.

A great idea to do a top 12 games of the year with ALL consoles and even the PC in there. Not everyone is going to agree, but it does represent a diversity I've not seen before.

I'm also glad not to see GTA IV there. MGS4 for all its faults (and yes it does have them!) deserves the top spot.

This year had so many titles on all consoles and PC it would have been a challenge to do a top 20 list!

Well unless you're a super big site and have played every game out, it would be hard or near impossible to recommend games on experience with regards to what shoould be in top 12.

I would have thought that COD WaW would have been in there, but as many have pointed out, while it is great, many see it as simply a COD4 copy. Which it isn't, but hey, ppl see things differently.

Actually, gamers have never had it SO great . .yet I'm constantly amazed as to the number of gamers that just complain there's no games around worth playing - pardon??!!

FOr heavens sake, be it PC, PS3, Wii or Xbox 360, there's a bucket load of games that will send anyone broke just trying to keep up with releases. I think many have become way too spoilt for choice. XBLA alone has a - well - endless number of great simple games and PSN has a huge amount available, not forgetting the disc based games.

Although I do disagree somewhat, I think that Treyarch have done big things with COD:WaW...

Same here, but purists are bagging the game simply because it uses the publishers own engine that ran COD4, which will run COD6 and etc . . .

How else are game developers supposed to keep consisency if they use different engines for the SAME FRANCHISE . . . simple, They can't.

It's the same as if ppl complained that one game uses the Unreal Engine 3 and another FPS uses the same engine, therefore having very very similar aspects, but doesn't get slammed for doing so . . got me beat.

Tryarch saw it's weaknesses, adapted and used the software available to it by THEIR Publishers, and they get canned by fans for doing so.

If they had of used a different engine and thus had a different look and feel, they would get canned by gamers again for NOT using the COD4 engine. Sure as hell makes being a developer difficult in these times, that's for sure.

Havent played MGS4 but from what I have heard it is good to see that games are respsected regardless of format for the work gone into them.

I too am glad to see that GTA wasn't taking the title just because of the hype.

MGS4 is a must play game for any gamer. As explained in the list, the presentation, graphics, sound etc are all of the highest quality.

Yes MGS4 is amazing for the choice in how to approach a mission: play COD4 by shooting, or Splinter Cell by using gadgets and stealth.

The loooong self-indulgent cut scenes and melodramatic story and long voice recorded-only back stories for the beauties, is not going to impress everyone (not me anyway), but the game is a classic, no doubt.

I doubt it, he says the gameplay is great whereas the cutscenes get a bit boring (which is pretty much what everyone says). He isn't bashing the game in any sense, just giving his opinion on why the game won't appeal to him.

Yes MGS4 was perfect, couldn't have been better, and we all should be generic sheep and think so.

It does deserve GOTY imo. Should be enough for you Metal Gear purists (or zealots).

Thank god we didn't put GTA IV in the list then we would of been just a nother site that got sucked into the hype.. It is a good game but once your half way through it gets tedious and once you find out a few things about the story you get put off it..

i know i did and so i had to force myself to finish it.

LBP no one had a chance to play the game unfortunately. Fable 2 ehh no staff on the site have spoken highly of it i know i don't it's nothing special, the whole game plays like it sit under 30 fps and turning feels bit delayed and just tedious.

Im completely bored with the storyline already. And Banjo? Nuts & Bolts. No.

But then again not everyone will agree with every websites Top 10 or 12.
