S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Steam Title Renamed To "Chornobyl" In Solidarity With Ukraine

GSC Game World has renamed the subheading of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, from "Chernobyl" to "Chornobyl" to support the Ukrainian cause against Russia.

MadLad774d ago (Edited 774d ago )

Okay ..

I'm 100% for the Ukraine in this situation, but these feel like nothing more than empty virtue signals. Weak ones at that.

"What did you do for the effort against the Russian invasion"?

We changed a letter in the game we're making ..

Rocketisleague774d ago (Edited 774d ago )

Probably some of the devs are fighting for kviv? Where they are based with 100s of employees.

I agree in general though

LucasRuinedChildhood774d ago (Edited 774d ago )

Seeing people complain about Ukrainians symbolically giving Russia the middle finger as their homes and civilians are being intentionally bombed to terrorize them into submission (e g maternity wards caving in on mothers) is just madness. 10 years ago, barely anyone would even think to complain about an action like this.

Many people can only view every issue through the prism of cancel culture, virtue signaling, etc now. It's lead to massive shortcomings in the way they think.

This is an invasion, lads, not an argument on Twitter.

Petebloodyonion774d ago

Perhaps go see the developer webpage?
https://www.gsc-game.com/in...

Also, may I suggest reading why they made the change?

porkChop774d ago

Read the article. The devs are Ukrainian. Chernobyl is the Russian spelling, Chornobyl is Ukrainian.

MadLad774d ago (Edited 774d ago )

Guys, I understand they're a Ukranian developer. The Stalker series is close to my heart, and have been following Stalker 2 closely for a while now.

That doesn't mean it doesn't come off as a nothing gesture.

If they put out a tweet saying "we're putting down our keyboards for guns" that would resonate with me.

Making a point to announce you're ever so slightly changing your title because Russia, really doesn't.

ChubbyBlade774d ago

They’re in a city that’s being attacked ….you’re aware of that right?

Christopher774d ago

Your criticism of their action is less meaningful than theirs, yet here you are talking about something that, to you, means absolutely nothing. But, to them, perhaps it means absolutely everything right now.

It also doesn't mean that they are just doing this. But, perhaps, and this is something you haven't had to experience, symbolism holds power now for a reason and they are acting on it when they could have done this years ago.

I don't think this game will be sold in Russia anytime in the next 20 years

specialguest774d ago (Edited 774d ago )

How does this support Ukraine? Are they donating a % of their proceeds to Ukraine? This is like when people change their profile picture to a certain country's flag colors. Sure it's nice to stand in solidarity, but for a gaming company you could do just a tiny bit more of you want to really help. This leans more towards virtual signaling

glennhkboy774d ago

They are donating their life to fight against Russia. Isn't that "donating" enought to you?

XSpike774d ago

Thanks for enlightening me, never would I have thought changing a name of a thing is donating your life to fight against Russia. Biden should do the same, maybe he could change his name to Joe Bin Laden, to donate his life for the fight against Russia.

specialguest774d ago

Wow change the games name is donating their lives?? Where the hell did you read that the developers were donating their lives? Did you even read the article? They changed the games name

gamerben774d ago

The devs are Ukrainian fellas

Petebloodyonion774d ago

" Are they donating a % of their proceeds to Ukraine?" Really? because giving 100% of the profit of a game not out till the end of the year sure will help Ukraine now right?
But perhaps they are making a lot more right now than what you are expecting.
for instance, the signification of the change will be understood by Ukrainians and Russians alike and some of them will probably go on the dev webpage to see why (remember that the Russian population is told that the military is on a special peace operation about removing a Nazi regime).
https://www.gsc-game.com/

So what's the deal? Probably that by doing a small change the webpage is perhaps not blocked right now by Russia like Youtube, Facebook, independent news, etc.
Also, the main page clearly explains ways to help Ukraine directly.

And lastly, I doubt that massively antagonizing someone who can currently destroy your office like they did a children's hospital is a good idea.

EvertonFC774d ago

It won't be coming out at the end of the year, all 18-60 year olds have to fight for Ukraine ATM.

Petebloodyonion774d ago

@Everton FC
they changed last night the release date to December 8, 2022
"Change U:28882685
23 hours ago · 15 March 2022 – 15:22:26 UTC
Added Store API Release Date (may be wrong) – 8 December 2022 – 18:00:00 UTC (1670522400)"

Petebloodyonion774d ago

Ether I have some followers that automatically press disagree on all my posts or that my comment wasn't easy to understand (English isn't my main language) cause I can't figure out why I'm getting only disagree for basically saying that there's no profit right now since the game is yet to be released and that the change of the webpage might educate the Russian population on what's really going in Ukraine instead of the propaganda they are told.

Atom666774d ago

Chances are they are doing a "tiny bit more" than this...

I'm sure they appreciate you accusing them of "virtual" (lol) signaling though. That will surely help them in the defense of their homes.

got_dam774d ago

They are a Ukrainian studio. No idea what these guys are dealing with day to day.

AnotherProGamer774d ago

like any other day, if you look at videos from the ukraine they are going on their day like nothing is happening. open snapchat and click on snaps in ukraine area and people are still going to clubs and what not

XbladeTeddy774d ago

Yeah, social media can paint a pretty picture. You think they're acting like it's a normal day? You're an idiot.

ChubbyBlade774d ago

Oh man….someone is so Ignorant.

You’re aware in Afghanistan and Iraq people were right around the corner eating at restaurants during the last 20 years right?

Makes sense really. Aren't these the Ukrainian devs ?

Alexious249d ago

Yes...But the release date for the game was already set to December 2022 before the war began. It was supposed to be nearly finished.

shinoff2183249d ago

The war isn't exactly over

Tacoboto249d ago

The war began in February 2022 - invasion of Ukraine was February 24th, 22. You're missing an entire year, Alexious.

Lightning77249d ago

The rumor was December but hey talk all the time they need no rush.

Alexious249d ago

It's not like we don't have enough games in the meantime.

got_dam249d ago

Right?! August and September are absolutely stacked. Ill be working through BG3 until Q1 2024 at this rate anyway.

z2g248d ago

All things considered, I think we can give them a free pass here.

Looks great. Does this games have a 60fps mode on console?

ModsDoBetter463d ago

Judging by how graphically demanding it looks, I doubt it but we’ll see.

shinoff2183463d ago

I don't think it makes it to 60 either. It won't kill the experience though imo it looks damn good to

ModsDoBetter463d ago

It absolutely should hit 60 on Series X.
If they come out and announce 4k/30 it’ll be hugely disappointing for “the worlds most powerful console”.

Jericho1337463d ago

Great that they’re continuing to release updates in spite their nation’s plight. Fingers crossed for a 2023 release.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl — Come to Me Official Trailer

In memory of fallen heroes. The new trailer of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is here.

RaidenBlack486d ago

One of my most anticipated game ....

Jericho1337486d ago

Same, looks absolutely stunning but glad they’re just the old school inventory. Great to see they’re in track for a 2023 release date - hats off to GSC keeping development going through the war.

lonewolf10486d ago

Same here, the original is still one of my favorite games.

OG_TK_Cole485d ago

Game looks very good, I cant wait to play it.

XxINFERNUSxX485d ago

All I know is on PC the stuttering from Unreal Engine 4 better not be present in this game using UE5, or I will pass on this game. I wouldn't take it for free, if issues like that are present.

repsahj485d ago

Big respect to the devs, this game looks great overall. Still hoping they will improve the graphics because it is still looks current gen.

JCOLE13195485d ago

I would think if it looked “current gen” that’d be a good thing. Or did you mean last gen?

repsahj485d ago

If you think atomic heart graphics is current gen, then yes. It looked last gen.

StarkR3ality485d ago

@rep

What are you on about pal, it's one of the best looking games I've ever seen 😂😂

Lightning77485d ago

2023 is surprising actually. The last I heard it got delayed indefinitely.

Hopefully it still makes it out this year.

RaidenBlack485d ago

STALKER 2 unlikely next year ....
and given the state the studio's going through right now, I don't want it next year.
Let them settle and work on it undisturbed and release the much awaited sequel in 2024 or even 2025 without any unnecessary rush.
I just want the game to be good. Not another rushed game to meet a deadline.
This is STALKER we're talking about ...
