Star Ocean 4 Gets Japanese Box Art, New Screens (High-Res)

SCRAWL: "Square Enix and tri-Ace have released the official Japanese box art for Star Ocean: The Last Hope for the Xbox 360. Oddly, it does not have the "Only on Xbox 360" stamp on it as usual Xbox 360 exclusives do. Along with the box art, they've released a few brand new stunning screenshots. Hit the gallery for the screenshots and larger box art."

That is because it has never said xbox 360 exclusive anywhere. This came up back at the E3 FF XIII disclosure. It's a timed exclusive.

Timesplitter145616d ago

I wouldn't be too sure about that, even though it would make sense

Edge Maverick5616d ago

Not much longer now! Don't care what system it's on. IT'S MINE MARCH 3, 2009!!!!

ruibing5616d ago

Here's to hoping. This is Tri-Ace right? The people behind the last Star Ocean.

IzKyD13315616d ago

Under platform it says Xbox 360, take this as you will

CryofSilence5616d ago

I think it will be a timed exclusive. Development for PS3 version has probably already begun.

iamtehpwn5615d ago

"No comment" from Square Enix.
They're using Star Ocean 4 to further test the 360 JRPG market.

Rest assured, Star Ocean 4 PS3 late 2009, early 2010.

Bnet3435615d ago

This is SE's time to impress me on the Xbox 360. Star Ocean 4 baby, make it happen my dudes.

SaiyanFury5615d ago

@IzKyD1331

True, but the Namco-Bandai website listed Eternal Sonata only for the 360 and now there's a PS3 version out. IF Star Ocean 4 had been intended to be exclusive on the 360 Microsoft would be singing it on the mountain as another series stolen from Sony's PlayStation platform. Since I've NEVER heard MS even mention the game as an exclusive on the 360, I think I'll be safe in waiting for the PS3 version.

AAACE55615d ago

If someone thinks Star Ocean 4 isn't going multiplat, they need to be slapped silly! It's just like the pwn said, they are just trying the 360 out more in japan to se what it can do!

NaiNaiNai5615d ago

for anyone who hasn't checked. SE/TA have already said they have no future plans to make SO4 for the ps3. so it sounds like its a exclusive not a timed one.

meepmoopmeep5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

just like Epic denied a PC version of Gears
just like Bioware denied a PS3 version of Bioshock
just like...

don't count on exclusives from 3rd party studios this gen.

if it were truly exclusive MS would have said this at E3

dragunrising5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

Bioware didn't make Bioshock. Take 2/2k games made it.

Edit: I agree though that if Microsoft didn't announce it as exclusive, there is always the possibility of porting it. Also, Microsoft isn't publishing the game; the biggest reason it will be timed exclusive. It would be kinda silly not to make it multi. The 360 version will sell a lot and move consoles, however the PS3 install base is still a lot larger.

Mozilla895615d ago

Because then everyone would just wait for that. This way they can get some people to buy the 360 version in Japan while the PS3 owners play WKC and then release Star Ocean when there is less competition on the PS3 with maybe some extra content.

Excellent.March 3 sounds like a good time for Star Ocean 4.I look forward to it

Keele5616d ago

Only on Xbox360.

Jump in.

Not on Suckstation 3.

Suck beyond.

Dannagar5616d ago

Bragging is worthless unless you buy the game. That's the problem with fanboys, they'll praise their system for having an exclusive but then they don't buy it when it comes out.

Nicaragua175616d ago

Yeah,it's just too bad all RPG's on the Xbox 360 flop hardcore when released in Japan.

Anyone remember Blue Dragon? The game that was going to do wonders for the Xbox 360 in Japan? LOL.

Dannagar5616d ago (Edited 5616d ago )

Blue Dragon helped sell 200k Xbox 360's in Japan. It was a major achievement for the time. Blue Dragon went on to sell 520k units world wide. Blue Dragon was the very first JRPG on an Xbox system. So it's not a bad feat.

PotNoodle5616d ago

So i'm not sure what to buy it on, i can see them doing what all other developers do with the games that come out later on for other systems - add some extra content on the disc.

But i however want this on release so i don't think i'll be able to wait for a ps3 version :(

Dannagar5616d ago (Edited 5616d ago )

Yeah, they come out with Xbox 360 hand me downs a year later on PS3 and they do usually come with extras but they are usually full price too; where as, they are bargin bin prices on Xbox 360. Sometimes you can download the PS3 extra content off of Xbox Live or they come out with a better version on Xbox 360 such as Lost Planet Colones which was $10 less than the PS3 version and had the extra content.

PotNoodle5616d ago

By the time the 360 version drops, i'll just get it on Xbox. I can't see the difference being that big if they ever decideo on a ps3 version.

Dannagar5616d ago (Edited 5616d ago )

They won't. With time exclusives, there's usually a 6 month window in which it can't be announced for another console. That's if it's a contractual arrangement. If Square Enix is making it exclusive by they're own admission, you might her an announcement soon.

Who knows, it might only be released in Japan if it's ever released for PS3. Things like that have been know to happen. BTW, can you name a single Tri-Ace game that was made multiplatform or was ported to another system? I don't think it's ever happened.

PlayStation Plus is a secret paradise for RPG fans

From games that digitaltrends DeAngelo Epps has always wanted to play but missed out on, like Odin Sphere, to newer titles that he'd love to re-experience like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, there was enough there to justify diving back in. And those titles aren’t even a small percent of what’s available here. Vanillaware titles, Square Enix games, NIS franchises he’d never even heard of — there’s a whole lot to dig into.

PSPlus is Amazing for RPGs and NIS America, Square Enix and Vanillaware games are perfect for PSPortal.

LG_Fox_Brazil155d ago

Not really a 'secret' but a paradise indeed, I just finished Soul Hackers 2, pretty good, and started Labyrinth of Galleria and I am having a blast. Tons of great RPGs in the PS4/PS5 family

Mr_cheese155d ago

Secret is the click buzzword. Can't have a title without bait these days.

anast155d ago

secret, shadow, hidden

OtterX155d ago

Perfect for playing on the Portal, since rpgs can be such timesinks. For those people who can't stay glued to the TV, it's good to give some freedom around the house, out on the porch or whatever. I haven't picked up a Portal yet, bc of life priorities, but I definitely anticipate picking one up asap and playing more rpgs!

ziggyzinfirion155d ago

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VII:Remake for the first time on PS5 and I am freaking blown away by this game so far. I don't know why I waited this long or due to my huge backlog but had to be honest, this game exceeded my expectations.

OtterX155d ago

Yea, story pacing aside, the combat system is pretty killer, especially if you slow it down to play it more like a tactical turned based jrpg!

I actually wish FF16 had gone this route, instead of the DMC route. The FF7:R system gave enough action for those who wanted to play that way, while still appeasing us old school turn based jrpg fans.

Glad you're enjoying!

crazyCoconuts155d ago

Some of the best in game HDR I've ever seen in that game. I liked it a lot too. My first final fantasy game believe it or not

A beginner's guide to Star Ocean

Star Ocean is one of those series that did, and still does, things that others don’t. Think of it as a JRPG for fans of series like Star Trek. The casts regularly involve people from more advanced civilizations getting involved with those who are still growing, even though there are various measures in place to allegedly stop that sort of interference. As a result, people get energy weapons, cyborgs, magic and people who can turn into cats. It is a lot to take in.

Let's see here. There was another classic JRPG series that started this SCI Fi. It was Phantasy Star by Sega. Before Star Ocean, there was Phantasy Star 1-4 on Sega consoles

a beginners guide to star ocean....after playing the 3rd game
you've been told that the universe (SO lore) is just a ------------------- and close the book

VsAssassin1611d ago

Yeah, that plot twist didn't work for me. I wish SO3 isn't canon, but it is. Anyway, SE can just sweep SO3 under the rug perhaps by soft rebooting the franchise.

Nerdmaster1611d ago

The first two were so great, among the top RPGs on 16 and 32-bit era. I wonder why it went downhill after that...

LiViNgLeGaCY1611d ago

I still regard the 2nd Story as one of the greatest JRPG's of all time.

ChronoJoe1611d ago

Play the PS1 game and then the PS2 game and then the rest probably aren't worth your time unless you're a superfan of the series. I think that's all you need to know.
