Pokémon Needs to Take a Break

Alex DS from Link Cable Gaming writes: "This success has continued onto the Nintendo Switch with the platform being home to a new generation (that got some expansions), TWO remakes, and now the first 3D RPG in the series with Legends Arceus. That’s a lot of Pokémon and doesn’t include any of the spinoffs either. And while these games are definitely wildly popular, I’m starting to think it’s time for the series to take a bit of a break.

Pokémon isn’t allowed to take a break. Too many factors prevent it from doing so

Because it’s more focused on being a multimedia franchise than a gaming one, each generation is only three years

This vid goes into detail the issue this franchise as a whole will continue to suffer from with it being the most successful multimedia franchise in the world

but it also suffers from gamefreaks non existing experience with 3d games and their unwillingness to change. the games desperately need to mature. not full on 16+ but damn. even kids find it cheesy as hell

but i agree on everything u said.

I only think it needs two things.

Being able to skip the story entirely.

Or fully voice acted story...Which can be skipped.

funny u should say that, the new pokemon games have been announced a few minutes ago haha.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet look amazing. Can’t wait

gerbintosh801d ago

Same old shit just a different day

-Foxtrot801d ago

How? We literally know nothing about them

Outlawzz801d ago

I'm having fun with arceus and definitely will purchase scarlet and violet. So I don't think it needs a break at all, just reworking of the formula which they are doing. I had previously given up on pokemon thinking It would never make progress. I received arceus as a gift and gave it a shot and now I'm back lol

Seems pokemon company saw this article and decided to announce their new game as spite lol s/

Wow.
Look at the haters…
Too bad sales say, you all don’t know wtf your talking about.

"Too bad sales say, you all don’t know wtf your talking about."

Call Of Duty games are the best selling games every year - sales evidently do not equal quality (brand recognition is arguably more important). In terms of quality, COD games are far from the glory days of the franchise and also need a break (rumoured next year, thankfully).

CyberSentinel801d ago

Why do CoD games sell then?

Microsoft is rumored to want to make the franchise more a a “service”.
Whatever that means.

Probably a tiered system, with F2P being a basic tier for multiplayer longevity.

@CyberSentinel

"Why do CoD games sell then?"

As I said, "brand recognition is arguably more important" than quality. Once you've built up a fanbase and heavily advertised your product over a period of time, brand recognition can sustain you just as much as the quality of individual releases. .

RedDevils800d ago

Brainwash fanboy won't know the different what is quality. I have stop playing Pokemon since Silver/gold, since then they have done nothing innovative is almost like fifa every years. I play Folklore and Nino Kuni both games mechanic could be implement into the Pokemon games, but it's seem Gamefreak are a below average developer whom afraid of taking risk to improve their game.

same
sword and violet just made me tired of the current format.

they rly traded a cohesive story and Lore for open region.

ZeekQuattro317d ago

As much as a fan of Pokemon I never was one to buy every new gen or spin off or remake. I bought Red & Blue. Played Ruby for a few gyms on PC. Played a bit of Fire Red again on PC but didn't buy a new entry until Black. After that I bought X and Moon. Then Let's Go Evee and Sword. Lastly I bought Violet. So it's hard for me to burned out on Pokemon.

franwex317d ago

Stopped caring after Gen 3 to be honest.

Dudeson317d ago

Same here, simply grew up and lost interest, but the nostalgia filter still hits for things like the old pokemon crystal.

FinalFantasyFanatic317d ago

It was Gen 2 for me, I just can't keep up with all the new generations of Pokemon they add in, I'm keen to jump into Violet/Scarlett though to see what's new.

got_dam317d ago

I always enjoyed these game until the newest ones. The open world is sooooo bland. I missed walking into some random house and getting a cool trade opportunity. Hell, I miss jut walking into buildings. There are not a lot of interior spaces in violet. And a motorcycle is not a pokemon. I don't care how mythic or whatever it is.

Best RPG of 2022

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "While a few genres in 2022 were somewhat lacking, RPG was the opposite; in fact, two of our finalists show last year’s impressive spread of reputable releases. Beyond their consistency, they also impressed with their quality, and shared this special stat with the Best Puzzle Game of 2022 award: eight entries made it past the preliminary round’s eligibility threshold. All except one of them were made in Japan, and that exception is still emulating the spirit of SNES JRPGs. Finally, together they hold the highest average VGChartz review score of any shortlist we’ve done to date."

Star ocean 6. I'm toward the end and man it's a dope ass game.

I completely disagree with the article.

coolbeans476d ago

That reached the prelim round, but not enough for the shortlist. Other than that, this has to be 2022's strongest list going by critical acclaim.
