At a recent press event, 1up got some hands-on time with Disney's movie-based MMO Pirates of the Caribbean Online. Pirate fanatics and Jack Sparrow lovers everywhere can experience the world of the movies alongside their friends in this online adventure.
Players can create their own pirate character, male or female, and customize their looks almost any way they wish. You can alter body shape, facial features, and clothing. As you play through the game, you can pick up more clothing pieces as well, and customize your character's look even more.
It was really disappointed for a large number of fans that Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean Online (POTCO), the fun pirate themed MMO, was shut down in Sep 2013. Some folks were unwilling to lose this game forever and then they decided to resurrect this MMO as a new title--Pirates Online Rewritten. As of now, the fan-based dev team has claimed that they have been permitted to use Disney Interactive’s POTCO assets and content, with the additional premise that the new MMO must be strictly free-to-play and not-for-profit orientated. For the point of free-to-play, the team stressed that this MMO will focus on gameplay and fun, instead of making money from players with micro-transactions.
Avast ye landlubbers! Pirates Online Rewritten is an ongoing project to recreate and improve upon the now defunct Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean Online, the fun piratey themed MMO that shut down on Sept 2013.
This is a fan made project that uses Disney Interactive’s POTCO assets and content (with their permission) that’s strictly non-profit orientated and 100% free to play – it has to be or Disney will sue. This means that Pirates Online Rewritten is being created by devs who are genuinely passionate about the game, and it will be an MMO geared towards gameplay and fun, instead of fleecing players out of their cash with micro-transactions.
All going well, Pirates Online Rewritten could be a great MMO, be warned though, pirate games can be quite addictive – they say once ye lose yer first hand, ye get hooked!
