this is cool. Nice to see them make themed drives for PS. I have several of their themed ones for XB but only the standard black for PS. Hope they continue and make ones for GT and GoW as well.

On XB, Seagate made Sea of Thieves, Halo Wars, Gears 5, Gears 4, Jedi Fallen order, Cyberpunk and Halo 5... just to name a few.

The upvote to downvote ratio on this comment perplexes me

Nacho_Z817d ago

I'm guessing it's because in a comment about a product only usable on PS he managed to squeeze in two references to Xbox.

S2Killinit817d ago

I think its because he is constantly first comment and advertising for xbox on a lot of articles about Playstation. Its a bit tiresome tbh. For instance Im here to ask about what drive people recommend for my PS5, but his comments derail other people’s comments into a xbox vs Playstation and people lose focus on what the article is actually about.

darthv72817d ago (Edited 817d ago )

Im sorry to offend. I was simply stating how the lack of themed accessories for PS are fewer than XB. And this is a good first step [from Seagate] to address that. I listed some other examples not to promote, but to inform how Seagate made others and how they can make more for PS.

And hdd arent the only area where the ratio of PS to XB is in need of balancing. Controller stands (like one from controller gear) is criminally underrated. They have way more matching stands for XB than PS. I follow Razor (owner of controller gear) and they have started making color matching stands for DS but that doesnt absolve them for their lack of effort for DS4. There are lots of themed controllers (i should know) that do not have an appropriate stand for PS.

Now when it comes to the games I play... sure I may do mre XB than PS. But when it comes to collecting systems, controllers and accessories.... im pretty passionate about both.

@S2. If you want good bulk storage, the 4tb game drive is reliable. It is small in size but quiet and quick. If you want something bigger, they also make a 3.5" size in 5tb up to 8tb. Those require external power where as the small ones are powered by the console.

dumahim817d ago

The mass of comments before his that are flagged is inappropriate and spam perplexes me, when most of them seem fine. Lotta people getting triggered here.

KeyAppearance817d ago

You see he said something good about XB, that's a big NO around these parts.

Seagate drives are horrible, I learned to just pay extra for WD.

z2g818d ago

lol why?? they're going to sell you a regular hard drive with a picture on it and then mark it up, while selling the same regular version for a lower price... and if you're on ps5 this does little to help anything as you need to run ps5 games off of the internal NVME drive

Some gamers still rock a ps4 and some collect. Having options is good

ocelot07817d ago

"if you're on ps5 this does little to help anything"

Pretty sure having the likes of warzone that takes over 100gb is better on one of these than the limited space the internal SSD inside the ps5.

S2Killinit817d ago

Whats the best ssd i can get for my PS5 and how do i transfer my already saved content to it guys?

darthv72817d ago (Edited 817d ago )

The three I hear most people mention are the samsung 980pro, WD SN850 black and the Aorus 7000s. Pricing can be pretty close to each other or sometimes you can find them on sale. Right now amazon has the aorus for $60 off. Has the heatsink already installed and is very fast for the ps5.
https://www.amazon.com/GIGA...

Transferring content is easy. once installed you just go to the settings menu to storage and pick the content you want to move and just click move. You can even set a default location for game installs so each time you put a game in it will default to that drive.

NoFanBoy817d ago (Edited 817d ago )

Also the Seagate Firecuda or the Sabrent Rocket 4 plus who also sell a heatsink that replaces the PS5's nvme cover.

Seagate Game Drive Hub for Xbox (8TB) Review | Hardcore Gamer

Hardcore Gamer: "Among the handful of hard drive manufacturers, Seagate remains as one of the more recognized brand names for consumers and professionals. While there’s still a fierce battle over the PC space, Seagate seems to have a dominance on consoles. You can buy any hard drive to use as extra storage on your Xbox One, but Seagate is packaging drives specifically for Microsoft’s console. We’ve already seen a handful of these over the last couple of years, going as high as 4TB, alongside an impressive Solid State Drive, but now Seagate is upping their game with an extensive 8TB hub. Not only will you have an incredible amount of storage at your disposal, but an extra USB connection, as well."

Im researching some 8tb hhds. need one for X. I hope Xbox ups the hhd space from 16tb to like 32tb. haha

Death2513d ago

I just picked up the 4TB Seagate Game Drive in green. I'm still downloading games to it. The nice thing I didn't know is you can simply plug and play into any Xbox One and sign in and start using the drive. With 3 Xbox One's in my house it really makes it convenient. When X launches I'll be able to simply plug it in and access all my games. Hopefully by then they will come out with a larger drive for the 4K downloads. I'm not looking for a drive that needs it's own power supply.

LexHazard792513d ago

yea death, I love that about hhd feature plug and play factor is cool. I have a 5tb but that going to PS4 soon as I get a nice 8tb and I want an external ssd

OC_MurphysLaw2512d ago

Yeah was looking at this as well ahead of the X rolling out since I will need more than the 2TB I have now. The only real knock I can see if the vibration / noise factor. Also not crazy about it being "powered". May opt to look at the 4TB non-powered version instead.

CyrusLemont2512d ago

Find it a bit bizarre that the One X wasn't designed with a removeable 3.5" drive.

Cobra9512512d ago

That and not being able to export save files are the One's (any iteration) biggest flaws. The 360 has a removable HDD, which makes the deficiency in its successor all the more nasty.

OC_MurphysLaw2512d ago

You save files are stored in the cloud. You log into another Xbox and game and it will sync with your account. No real need to "export" a save file anymore.

OC_MurphysLaw2512d ago

plug and play external drives really eliminated the need to have a removable internal drive.

LAWSON722512d ago

Well it is quite small, if they could not put one in the OG One (literally was overkill and had plenty of room. They certainly were not going to do it with something even smaller than the S.

IMO it should of came with a 2.5 swappable simply due to HDD failures being the most common and fixable HW issue. A year warranty on a console with an irreplaceable HDD should be illegal lol.

thexmanone2512d ago

Don`t need it, plug and play external drives are the way to go.

I was looking at getting this, but then I realized there are cheaper, just as good 8TB external HDD options and it only comes in white. I have an OG X1 and will be upgrading to X1X so it will need to be black.

Seagate Introduces First Game Drive for PlayStation 4

Hardcore Gamer: "Over the last couple of years, Seagate teamed up with Microsoft to bring Xbox One branded external hard drives (both HDD and SSD) to the platform to better extend the storage for players. They have been unable to do this with the PlayStation 4 due to hard drive restrictions, but fortunately that changes. Thanks to those restrictions being lifted a few months ago, this has allowed Seagate to start development on hard drives specifically designed for PlayStation 4."

Ridiculous... and it's $10 more than the normal slim HDD.

TheOttomatic912528d ago

Uh whats the point of this? I mean you can use any external HDD with USB 3.0 on both PS4 and Pro.

KwietStorm_BLM2528d ago

Well the point is to sell water to a well, obviously. It's just like gaming headphones.

uth112528d ago

let me guess, these cost more than a standard drive and milk people's ignorance?
