would love to try out the RT mode so I can see what it looks like on my LG OLED, but I'd be worried the framerate would only be 30fps, which is less than ideal. I'll definitely be going for the 60fps mode more than likely.

A little worried about the other mode:
one aimed at “the highest possible frame rate”, with a ceiling of 60 fps. I hope it's a locked 60.

--Onilink--826d ago

Hopefully they do like Insomniac and do a 40FPS mode with RT instead of 30, maybe that way I would try it out.

Otherwise, it would need to have an amazing motion blur implementation like FH5 for me to consider trying a 30fps mode on a racing game

darthv72826d ago

For that, doesnt the game need to run in 120hz mode?

Babadook7826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

“..,doesnt the game need to run in 120hz mode?“

Just to clarify. The game would run at 40 FPS. But your tv must run at 120 hz to get that 40.

--Onilink--825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

Yes, as Babadook said, 40fps is useful when the TV and PS5 output are set to 120hz (or if VRR is a possibility), which for me at least it wouldnt be a problem. Though I also understand that not that many people have 120hz TVs so I dont quite expect them to do it, it would just be a nice bonus

ScootaKuH825d ago

Insomniac managed to get 60fps with RT on R&C, Spider-Man and Miles Morales. If they can do it in open world games then why can e not have the same in a relatively closed racing game? I realise the resolution will be lower, but it must be possible surely?

Bethesda managed to get 60fps with RT working in Doom Eternal as well, and it runs at 1800p which isn't bad at all

ABizzel1825d ago

We'll see. It really depends on how much overhead there is for the 4K mode. If it hits 4K @60fps no problem, then it's possible that a 1080p @ 60fps could be done with half resolution RT maybe with some high level optimizations. What I'm looking for would be a full VR mode.

HICK825d ago

I'm with ya on the full VR version. I haven't played GT since PS3 but with a full VR mode I might even buy a wheel and pedals!

Neonridr825d ago

I'm sure when PSVR2 comes out we might see a mode added to the game or some sort of experience created.

SeTTriP825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

This is sony's first party and they've been pretty good @ giving us extra modes like 4k ray traced @ 45fps (I have a lg c1 so I can take advantage of it 120hz) or spiderman.

I'm sure they'll do the same for this game.

Neonridr825d ago

well you can only take advantage if the game supports it. My C9 is the same way.

ThisPlaceIsToxic826d ago

Great news! Hearing that RT was only for replays kinda bummed me out. Excited again.

SullysCigar825d ago

N4G had a field day with hate about that, so hopefully this will allay any 'concerns' those folk had.

isarai826d ago

Not into racing sims, but always love the technological aspect of the GT games.

Atticus_finch826d ago

I agree GT is so detailed and well made that other games don't even stack up to the menus in GT sport

Sgt_Slaughter825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

It's definitely the definitive console racing franchise for the time being.

If PS5/Series consoles can handle more complex sims like Assetto Corsa/Assetto Corsa Competizione, rFactor 2, Automobilista/Automobilista 2, iRacing, etc., then GT will have to step it up. PS4/Xbox One had Assetto Corsa Competizione but in reduced form.

darkrider826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

Rt mode it's not the most important thing. Gt7 is just a massive game. The amount of content that gamers will get day one is crazy. Night and day of what we got on the launch of gt sport. There so much new stuff. For me the main problem is the size 110 gigas. Sport was only 40...

S2Killinit826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

Im most excited about the ability to take a stick car and improve it with parts as you earn more.

Honda S2000 here I come.

darkrider826d ago

Yeah. The customization is seems great on the game.

fr0sty825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

Don't forget that 110GB comes WITH Sony's Kraken compression tech, so on PS4 it would have been as much as 50% larger... unless 110GB is what they mean for the PS4 version of the game, and it'll be smaller on PS5.

Extermin8or3_826d ago

Post patches and free additional content sport is over 80gb now....

MajorLazer825d ago

Well over 100GB actually, esp with all the scapes stuff.

purple101826d ago

sport is now at 100gGB with all the updates

this one starts at 110GB, SO ITS EVERYTHING GTSPORT HAD + MORE

FreeFallFrenzy825d ago

The RT mod for FH5 on PC is a good example of why RT in a racing game isn't necessary. Fixed view games like this are just fine with SSR. Gives you the majority of the reflections with a fraction of the workload. I'd go with a high FPS mode any day

rakentaja826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

Forget RT, it's overhyped on consoles. Takes up about 30% of the resolution and reduces it to 1080p ... absolutely not worth it. It's just a buzzword to sell more consoles/games.

Atticus_finch826d ago

It's optional. And no RT is awesome for realism not to mention making games take up less space and freeing up dev time.

dumahim826d ago

"Takes up about 30% of the resolution and reduces it to 1080p "

That doesn't make any sense at all. It's a 4k game and taking up 305 of the resolution would put the resolution at something like 1700p or something.
They'll probably keep 4K with RT and reduce the framerate.

Eidolon826d ago

Yeah cuts it in half because no one is doing 40fps or VRR at something reasonable over 30fps.

rakentaja826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

All PS5 RT/60fps mode games run between 1080-1440p. Sorry but it's time to move on...to native 4K.

andy85825d ago

Native 4K is massively overrated. We just don't need it yet for how much detail and/or frame rate you have to sacrifice. It's near identical to checkerboarded. Especially in flowing gameplay. It takes side by side screenshots to point out differences.

--Onilink--825d ago

Native 4k is an absolute waste of resources regardless of whether you are doing RT or not.

That said, 1440p is the limit for me on most games when choosing alternative modes (either RT or performance), 1080p in a 65” TV is terrible, 1440p is fine given how many reconstruction and upscaling techniques exist these days

sagapo825d ago

I don’t entirely agree: 4K on a big TV screen isn’t a waste imo. Native is always better then upscaled (despite the cost of resource)
However, as I play on a 27” pc screen, 1440p is indeed the sweetspot, totally agreed on that. Too bad PS doesn’t support it. Maybe one day…

Tedakin825d ago

I agree RT is overhyped. I don't get why there's so much fuss especially considering the cost to overall performance.

ScootaKuH825d ago

If implemented correctly it can make a big difference to the overall look of a game. Try playing R&C Rift Apart and Doom Eternal with and without RT and you'll see what a big difference it makes to the visuals. There's no harm in having options. You're not forced to use them

FreeFallFrenzy825d ago

RT is great in a lot of games, but it isn't necessary in a racing game with a fixed viewpoint. I think it was Digital Foundry that did a video on the FH5 RT mod and it hardly had any difference in reflections because SSR is more than adequate with a fixed camera

ScootaKuH825d ago

Doom Eternal on PS5 has RT, runs at 60fps with a resolution of 1800p...

isarai825d ago

Be it PC maxed out or consoles, RT lighting/shadows are way more impactful to me than reflections. Playing Control and Metro Exodus with RT on PS5 is a very different experience than standard lighting

The best PS5 exclusives 2024

With so many PS5 exclusives to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming to pick which one to play. This is especially true for a new PlayStation gamer who has yet to experience the wonder of PlayStation-exclusive storytelling. So, here's KnowTechie's take on the best PS5 exclusives in 2024 and beyond

PlayStation is killing it with the exclusives this year. Exclusive wise, what has xbox released this year?

VersusDMC24d ago

They won't complain about Microsoft not releasing games here but put all their effort into saying that only first party counts. Games like Rebirth and Grandblue Relink don't count. Games published by Sony like Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin don't count because Sony don't own the studios.

It's some narrative building so for when Hellblade 2 come out they can say, seemingly without shame, that Microsoft is actually releasing first party games this year. And claim victory.🙃

Chevalier24d ago

Weird 1st party games didn't matter when Xbox had so little, but, now they're important again? Guess Ark 3, Stalker 2 don't count any more?

KyRo24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

ARK 3 doesn't exist and it's just a timed exclusive. It's also a game that a majority of the ARK player base doesn't want as it's a massive deviation from what people like about the original game

Abnor_Mal24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Honestly to me it doesn’t matter what they say, they are just finally getting a chance to say all the things PS fan(boy)s were saying to them for the past few years. Let them get that, they deserve a “win” for a change.

The new narrative is that suddenly first party games matter again when awhile ago they didn’t, but that was because they were struggling with the same three games with the occasional fourth or fifth. That games should be everywhere on all platforms since that’s whats happening to theirs. The consoles don’t matter just the ability to play anywhere. Whatever Xbox is doing Sony will soon follow.

They’re not moving the goalpost anymore, but rather just moving the whole damn stadium.

jwillj2k424d ago

Only a incel would care about who published what and who owns who.

If it’s not on the other consoles it’s an exclusive.

Killing what? Where are the 1st party games??
Stellar Blade and FF7 is what I’m seeing this year.. so shallow!!!!

andy8524d ago

Doesn't really matter as long as they're great games. Baffles me why people put an emphasis on 1st party. They're still games you can't play anywhere else this year

Cacabunga23d ago

Andy

PS brand is my favorite because of their stellar first party software.. currently I see absolutely nothing to go crazy for..

CS723d ago

Nonsense.

PS1 and PS2 was built on great third party exclusives like FF, MGS, GTA & Tekken.

raWfodog24d ago

Of course I love the games I’ve played from PS but I don’t believe we need to limit it to ‘exclusive’ to acknowledge that Xbox will be releasing some good games this year also. In that same vein, I believe that Xbox diehards shouldn’t limit their acknowledgment of good PS games to 1st party. There are plenty of good games to go around for everybody.

Tacoboto23d ago

This is a Playstation article about Playstation games and your comment is about Xbox. Can't you just celebrate what PS has without dragging this into console war BS?

ChasterMies23d ago

I don’t think Microsoft is releasing games exclusively on Xbox anymore. They have some timed exclusives that release on Xbox first.

Returnal, Astro Bot, and Ratchet made having it since day one worth it.

GT7 free updates and Spiderman 2 and others at 60fps have made this last year more than okay.

But yeah, it’s been dry lately. BG3 and third party have made great filler, but we ready for that SOCOM or Killzone announcement and some more 1st party goodness. Crossing fingers for Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement this summer.

Didn’t know Helldivers was exclusive! Wtf is going on at Xbox that they can’t get these games, series s strikes again.

SonyStyled23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Sony owns the Helldivers IP. The first was a PS3/Vita/PC game. It was never an Xbox game that they could ‘get’ a decade ago. I’m not sure what the upset is with Xbox here

CS723d ago

Lol, how do you ignore Rebirth one of the best games ever made?

anast23d ago

Looks like they are on par with the previous gens. Solid games all around. Interestingly enough, we can't say they released a bad game yet this gen. Unlike the Quiet Man dustup.

I actually do not mind if Marathon releases on multiple platforms . I just wish that Marathon has a dedicated single player campaign.

DaniMacYo23d ago

Helldivers 2 is exactly what gaming needed. I’m loving it.
